The police are terrible, but before you recommend replacing them with some other group like therapists, doctors, or social workers, it might make sense to go research the histories of racism, misogyny, and abuse of poor people generally within those professions. Having a degree does not cure you of racism. All cops are bastards, obviously, but they are not the only bastards.

The status quo is terrible and anyone who acts to preserve it is a cop and a bastard.

as abolitionists have been saying forever, we don't need to replace cops, we need to reimagine public safety entirely. it's not good or progress to do things that will maintain the system. replacing cops, even if it's with people who don't have guns, is maintaining the system.
