Hazel Scott playing two pianos at the same damn time with ease
Hazel Scott was a musical sorcerer and a civil rights hero. She:
was admitted to Julliard at 8.
was performing in top venues by 16.
pioneered “swinging the classics” and made the equivalent of a million dollars a year doing it.
was the first person of color to have their own national TV show.
went to Hollywood but refused to be cast as a “singing maid.” Demanded and got control over her casting, her wardrobe, and how footage featuring her was cut.
refused to perform in segregated venues and led charges for integration in several northern cities, notably Spokane.
She was brought down by the House Committee on Unamerican Activities, and has been largely forgotten. But she was a sorcerer, and a hero.

wait, are you telling me this is a 2d drawing? it looks like a 3d render! damn damn damn
To be quite fair I cant take all the credit for the crispy perceptive – it did start off as a 3D model in google sketchup! I know some great artists who use sketchup to help them with technical background or environmental work, so I thought I’d give it a whirl too. It’s a very convenient tool once you get the hang of it and a real time-saver.
I modeled pretty much the entire interior myself, though I did import a few objects (like the metal shelf and box piles) to speed things up. After that, everything was painted over using SAI, as well as adding in all the clutter and light by hand.
I give out a bunch of WIP files of my work through patreon, but I’ll gif this one so you can see the process yourself!

The SEED Project is developing the next generation of African leaders. We use education and basketball as tools to help young people realize their potential. Through this we empower our students to become the mentors and the role models for future generations of African youth. Together – they will continue to build a stable and self-reliant Africa. - The Seed Project
