Our real discoveries come from chaos, from going to the place that looks wrong and stupid and foolish.

Until then, I’ll drink enough for both of us.
QUOTE OF THE DAY - Anna Quindlen 💜📚
Being a reader doesn’t mean always reading, and it doesn’t mean only reading. A dear friend of mine often says that books make us gluttons for life, and while I don’t attribute my desire to do non-book things on this vacation to any specific thing I’ve read, I know in my bones that reading both makes me more curious about the world and gives me a greater desire to engage with the people around me. Sometimes, I need to not read.

Happy birthday to Gustav Klimt, born on this day in 1862.
Don’t miss a rare opportunity to see Klimt’s “Frauenbildnis (Portrait of a Woman)" in Gallery 158, on loan to the Museum from The Lewis Collection. Klimt began this piece in 1917 but it was discovered unfinished in the artist’s studio after his death in February 1918—you’ll notice this work is sketchier than most of Klimt’s densely decorated canvases. It is thought to be his third work to portray Maria (“Ria”) Munk, the daughter of Alexander and Aranka Pulitzer Munk, who had shot herself in 1911 at the age of 24, in despair over a lover.

A New Perspective of the Day: The Iron Throne According to George R. R. Martin
George R. R. Martin shares a sneak peek of the “real" Iron Throne, as envisioned by none other than himself and painted by Marc Simonetti for the forthcoming nonfiction The World of Ice and Fire: The Official History of Westeros and The World of A Game of Thrones.

I’ve always marvelled at the smooth transitions of colour. It’s like someone stroking your eyeballs with silk.
Contrary to what the cynics say, distance is not for the fearful, it’s for the bold. It’s for those who are willing to spend a lot of time alone in exchange for a little time with the one they love. It’s for those knowing a good thing when they see it, even if they don’t see it nearly enough.

“Pies, pa’ qué los quiero, si tengo alas para volar”
Everyone who terrifies you is sixty-five percent water. And everyone you love is made of stardust. And I know sometimes you cannot even breathe deeply. And the night sky is no home. And you have cried yourself to sleep enough times that you are down to your last two percent. But nothing is infinite, not even loss. You are made of the sea and the stars, and one day you are going to find yourself again.
