I’ve finally gotten around to looking at Olivia’s engagement ring which she appears to be wearing in recent paparazzi photos! This is truly the stunt that keeps on giving.

Quick background: Olivia Wilde is a stage name that she chose based on Oscar Wilde, the gay Irish poet.

I wanted to see what her engagement ring looked like, for reference:

And being the queer glam-rock lover that I am my first thought was “wow that looks like the Velvet Goldmine brooch that was (fictiously) said to have belonged to Oscar Wilde”

Which led me to wonder what would’ve inspired this fictional gem. The answer appears to me to be twofold: there is a stolen diamond brooch which features in his work An Ideal Husband

And the color green has significance as a queer signifier from Victorian times:

Today on tumblr has made me feel like we are living the fire drill episode of the office.

I mean, I know it’s a stunt and I certainly believe it’s a stunt but it just makes me so sad that Harry has to go through that again. And that Louis has to go through it too. Just like bg and E make me sad for Louis and Harry both. I’m thinking of deleting all my follows except you and aliensyndrome because I can’t take the angst and you two don’t do angst.

And yeah, right now I’m hopeful that this will literally be another instance of harry being ~linked~ to someone without it becoming a whole thing + that the purpose of it is to keep things chill so Louis can handle his BG shit finally. 

But hey, im glad they got through the holidays without any bullshit. I’m sure he and Louis enjoyed their California ChristmasTM together.
