people understand that Spanish speakers speak different dialects of the Spanish language but don’t understand that black people speak a dialect of the English language
saw a variation of this conversation on twitter earlier
I just want to state for the record that this is completely uncontroversial among linguists. It’s the first day of sociolinguistics class.
any law that requires or encourages trans kids to be outed by their school or therapists will result in the deaths of trans kids. having the option to be out at my school and talk to my therapist while not being out to my parents saved my life, even though i was eventually outed, kept me sane. trans kids with unsupportive parents will have to choose between never talking about who they are or what they’re going through or psychological and physical abuse with the possibility of being kicked out. bills like the one in ohio will result in countless suicides if passed, and that’s exactly what they’re designed to do.
my therapist outed me and my mom pulled me from therapy and threatened me with an exorcism to “get the demon” out bc I didn’t want to call myself Kevin.
“the Bible says homosexuality is a sin” well the Bible also has a lot of sexism, rape, incest, violence and a lot of contradictory messages in general because it was written by people and people have agendas
I don’t really think that God even has the time to care about if people are gay like if he’s got a whole world to run there are more important things anyway
And if God is love, he’s not just loving me if I am what he wants; he’s loving me as the person he made me to be, which is a queer person
You can’t say “I love you, and I made you gay but I’m sending you to hell you awful sinner” my dude that doesn’t make sense it’s not like hell has a low population is it
The god I believe in loves queer people because that’s how he made us
the bible doesn’t condemn homosexuality anyway. It’s content taken out of context and misinterpreted over hundreds of years of translations, re-translations, and mis-translations.
Hell, in Kenneth Davis’s Don’t Know Much About The Bible, there’s a passage that absolutely blows my mind and proves just how much we can misinterpret with simple translation mistakes:
“In researching the world’s oldest city, for instance, I learned that Joshua’s Jericho is one of the oldest human settlements. It also lies on a major earthquake zone. Could that simple fact of geology have had anything to do with those famous walls tumbling down? Then I discovered that Moses and the tribes of Israel never crossed the Red Sea but escaped from Pharaoh and his chariots across the Sea of Reeds, an uncertain designation which might be one of several Egyptian lakes or a marshy section of the Nile Delta. This mistranslation crept into the Greek Septuagint version and was uncovered by modern scholars with access to old Hebrew manuscripts.”
The bible is one long-ass game of telephone, whispered around the world in dozens if not hundreds of languages, for thousands of years. I have a hard time knowing what my grandpa is talking about, when he starts going on about the technology or practices of his youth, and that was only about 80 years ago, in the same country and in the same language as me. So why every Joe on the streets thinks they can take one or two verses, completely out of context and probably mis-translated several times to boot, and use it to spout propaganda and hatred for an entire group of people will forever be beyond me.
You’re all valid, and frankly, if there is a ‘loving God,’ then that God will be happy to see you happy. Seriously.
I needed that. Thank you.

Donate to make a Bionic Penis for Trans Men a reality
A small trans owned business called Transthetics works on making hyper realistic fake penises for FTM people. Recently the owner, Alex, has announced he’s working on making a bionic penis. This would help so many trans kids as it’d be cheaper and safer than bottom surgery, and help alleviate dysphoria. In some cases (like for me), a trans person may actually prefer it. It would have four functions all in one: -pee -pack -play -pleasure The concept is to have it function as a DMAB penis would, and it’d look and feel as human as possible. There’s more information if you click the link below. BUT HE NEEDS YOUR HELP THROUGH DONATIONS. You can donate here using my donation link (it’d help me win one of his already released products, which i’d really appreciate!) The first step (out of three major steps that will need donations) is “where materials and mechanical options are explored, evaluated and tested.” As of May 14th, he’s at 2,000 out of the 50,000 goal. I can’t stress enough how much this could help trans boys (or people with dysphoria that involves not having a penis), and how desperately I, and others, want to see this dream become a reality. If you can donate - whether you’re trans or cis - I beg you to do so. A dollar, 5, 10, anything. Please also boost this post and help it reach as many people as possible!
5 Ways People with Thin Privilege Can Fight Body Terrorism
“Hey, fellow folks with thin privilege (you should know who you are): We need to talk. I’ve been seeing a lot of people equating skinny shaming and fat shaming—and I want to declare, on the record, that this is wrong and harmful.
There is a huge difference between skinny shaming and fat shaming—and it’s a difference of scale and systemic power dynamics. Body shaming against all bodies is damaging, including microaggressions against skinny people. However, the difference between feelings being hurt and discrimination, dehumanization, and denial of rights on a systemic level is vast.
Body terrorism against people who are fat is insidious, and it’s openly practiced in the halls of our society’s most central institutions—hospitals, schools, the legal system, and the workplace.
Various studies have found that fat people suffer profound discrimination at work; they are more likely to be fired or suspended, less likely to be hired in the first place, earn smaller salaries in comparable positions, and receive fewer promotions for comparable job performance. In another study, 54% of doctors reported that they believe physicians should have the right to withhold treatment from “overweight” or “obese” patients. You read that horrifying sentence correctly: Of these professionals who have taken an oath to heal, more than half think that it’s perfectly all right to deny healthcare to people seeking healthcare!”

“54% of doctors reported that they believe physicians should have the right to withhold treatment from “overweight” or “obese” patients.”
Body terrorism is absolutely the right thing term.
This so much. Quality of care does not stop at a certain weight.
And I’m willing to bet the number of misdiagnosed fat patients are on the rise due to doctors refusing to care or blatantly blaming their problem solely on weight and refusing to do the investigative work.
look if movies being like 2.5 hours long is just gonna be the norm from now on then we gotta bring back intermissions. please let me piss.
There is legit an app called “RunPee” that tells you when you can get up and go pee without missing anything important. You hit the timer when the movie starts and then it vibrates when you can make a pee run. It even gives you a little summary of what you missed that you can read while you pee.
Reblogging to save lives
Oh my god I need this
I have to pee in literally every movie this is a great idea!??!?
This actually IS great. I generally have to start limiting my fluids the day BEFORE I see a movie these days if I want any hope of getting through the whole thing. Bless this!
This isn’t what I usually write about, but I think it’s important.
my ultimate dream is to have a tiny little farm tucked away in the woods and when people come to visit they leave with a handmade basket full of freshly baked pies and jars of honey.
The last thing transphobes see before @warriormale suplexes them straight into hell
But you can lip read right?
Yes, I can lip read but it takes a lot of strength and energy to figure out your mouth formation. Lip reading isn’t even 30% accurate.
It’s “Did the person say mat or bat?” or if you figure out some words it’s “The __ __ into __ __ and ___ behind the ___ ___” guessing game. We miss half the sentence so we just guess. “The dog ran into the house and hid behind the kitchen table?” When the person actually said “The cat walked into the house and hid behind the couch” Sometimes we misinterpret/hear what is being said. “How is the weather” could heard as “How are you?”
So when talking to someone who does lip read, don’t assume it’s a MAGICAL SUPERPOWER! Because it’s not. It takes a lot of energy from us trying to figure out the missing gaps. Don’t over exaggerate your mouth movements either. Speak slow, clearly and face us when speaking.
Also it’s extremely hard to lip read someone when…
1) They have a facial hair
2) Covering their mouths when talking
3) Chewing/having food in mouth while talking
4) Having anything near their face. Example: scarf, hand
5) Bad lighting in the area
6) Over exaggerating their mouth movements
7) Facing away mid-talking
8) Mumbling
9) Barely moving mouth when speaking
What to do when you’re with someone who lip reads…
1) Make sure you’re in a good area of lighting. Ask if the person can see/read your lips before speaking any farther
2) Make sure you aren’t chewing anything while talking
4) Leave your hands away from your face
5) Have minimal facial hair possible. This especially when you know you’ll be communicating with a lipreader daily
6) Speak slowly, clearly.
7) If they ask you to repeat, please do so.
8) Face them when speaking - this IS important of course.
