HAPPY (belated) BIRTHDAY NEJI!!!

Little rushed b-day post, I only found out it was his birthday on the 3rd day of!

I gotta start working on these earlier…

Gosh I’ve missed two other birthdays I was gonna draw for too so…also a very happy birthday to John Marston(Jul 3) and Mr.America Alfred Jones(Jul 4)!!!

I’ve also been meaning to draw team 3 recently, there’s so many fun scenes from the spin off I’ve been wanting to redraw maybe I’ll do that later

Everyone sit down I’m gonna explain my catboy/puppyboy hc for the outsiders🥹

Starting off strong:

Darry - catboy I really have no reasons for this other than just look at him, argue with the wall

Soda - puppyboy, I think ones pretty obvious, he’s very energetic happy and a people person

Pony - now this was hard to decide, but I think puppyboy fits, he’s just cute like that

Johnny - puppyboy, I would’ve gone with cat if it wasn’t for his description line from pony saying he’s as “a puppy that’s been kicked too many times”

TwoBit - catboy, now hear me out, he’s like a fat ginger cat, think Garfield but more energetic and annoying

Steve - puppyboy, as Steve’s biggest fan I still have no particular reasons other than just look at him. (And as a big Stevepop shipper they’re literally the embodiment of “puppy love”)

Dally - catboy, as far as breeds go he’s a hairless cat, don’t ask for reasons, you’ve read his description too

I think I really relate to Steve Randle cause I’d like to imagine with how he’s portrayed by Pony, he feels overly jealous at constantly being in the shadow of others, never being good enough for anything better, and a reputation to keep up with little to no enthusiasm to do anything. And the fact he’s always cut out of stuff and he’s only known by relation? Oh myyy godddd he’s me

johnny cade isn’t shy.

there’s a big difference between “shy” and “quiet”. shy people’s silence comes from a place of anxiety. quiet people’s silence comes from a place of preference. johnny’s quiet, not shy. he’s canonically sassy sometimes—the only reason he gets away with it, especially with dally, is 1. because dally favors him and 2. because it’s unexpected from johnny. johnny has the capability to talk—he doesn’t have any problem telling pony off in the church, or asserting himself when dally tells him not to tell the cops about the murder. he has no problem telling dally to quit harassing cherry when no one else had the guts to, or even killing bob because he had to protect ponyboy. he’s got dallas winston—tulsa’s meanest greaser—wrapped around his finger. he’s able to appreciate things without speaking up about it. he griefs without talking about it. that’s why pony’s so taken aback when johnny suddenly bursts out with the “i’m going to kill myself if i don’t get out of here” spiel. johnny’s not known to spend his words without meaning them, thus, when he uses them, they’re more impactful. they’re more real.

he’s quiet. he’s not shy. he has a preference to be quiet. to him, words don’t mean much—not enough to waste on nonissues, anyways. there’s a reason the gang listens when he speaks up. there’s a reason his sass is so much more impactful than pony’s or even two-bit’s. with johnny, words are unexpected because he prefers it that way. but at the end of his life, those words he was hesitant to spend were the things he fought so hard to utter one last time. words may not mean much, but pony’s poem did. pony meant a lot to him.

he’s not shy—he’s never been shy. he’s a silent fighter. but when he speaks, you listen.
