My sister puts glasses away upside down.
Because our mother does,
Because her mother did,
Because her mother lived through the Dust Bowl.
One day my father sat me down and told me about epigenetics.
How the trauma he went through
As a child in an abusive home
Wrote itself into his DNA
And, in turn, into mine.
How he and his brothers,
In various ways,
Are all sick from it.
How I might be too, someday,
And Iâm not sure Iâm not.
I hear people say,
When will we get back to normal?
And I think of a woman born in the twenty-first century
Who puts her glasses away differently
Because of what her great-grandmother endured
Ninety years before.
The protests in Iran may have started against the mandatory hijab law and wanting justice for Mahsa Amini's death but now it has turned into a protest _ a war dare I say _ against the whole regime. People are just fed up with the dictatorship of Ali Khamenei and want him gone! They are chanting things like "death to the dictator" and "death to the Islamic Republic" in the streets. And it's not something new it's just for the first time we've been able to raise our voices and make the world listen. The mahsa amini tag has been trending on Twitter for days and Iranians are still trying to keep it trending so please be our voice and spread the news. Let the world know the real face of our government.
Iâve said it before, and Iâll keep on saying it: Title 42 is a racist double standard. And I say this with absolutely no ill will towards Ukraine. I wish the Ukrainian people nothing but victory đşđŚđşđŚđşđŚ over Putinâs naked aggression & colonialism. But the entire (racist) pretext behind Title 42 is that America is denying refugees accessâunder the guise of âpublic safetyâ concernsâto stop the spread of disease. Either refugees and asylum seekers carry diseases or they donât. The idea that immigrants from certain âundesirableâ races, cultures and nationalities are somehow more diseased than other preferred (white, European) immigrants is a tired, old, racist excuse used to deny access throughout American history.
Shame on Biden for continuing to scapegoat Black and Brown refugees, using the same racist lie Trump did.
During the primaries, Joe Biden lied about reversing Trumpâs race-based refugee policy, and instead has doubled down, and in his first year in office, has exceeded Trumpâs deportation numbers. Race-based mass deportation is still racist, no matter which political party is administering the law.

Maybe not the point of this post but I really think USAmerican Christians should be in fucking jail for what they do to children
First-generation immigrants are a species all their own. They wear a lot of beige, grey or brown. Colours that do not stand out. Colours that whisper, never shout. There is a tendency to formality in their mannerisms, a wish to be treated with dignity. They move with a slight ungainliness, not quite at ease in their surroundings. Both eternally grateful for the chances life has given them and scarred by what it has snatched away, always out of place, separated from others by some unspoken experience, like survivors of a car accident.
â Elif Shafak, The Island of Missing Trees
I didn't think I'd have to ever do this, but I don't have much choice right now.
As you may remember from my old posts here and here , I'm from Ukraine. Because of the war, I had to leave my home and run to Poland with my two relatives and two cats. I got the relatives settled down with volunteers and myself stayed with my friend.
It was me and two cats and, after less then a month, my friend realized that he can't live like this and asked me to look for an apartment faster (before, he told me I could live with him as long as I needed to get it all together)
I spent the first two weeks sick because the evac train was really cold and I was in a bad shape when we arrived here, so technically I only got this week that I started looking for a job (my usual one I, of course, lost)
I'm still trying to get myself together after everything, even though I am already starting to work (I'm a teacher of English), as much as I can.
What I need now is some funds for food and possibly for a room to rent for me and two cats. If you can (and only if it's not too hard for you!) please help me đ
My PayPal is [email protected] . Any dollar counts!
If you can just reblog this, it's already a lot of help. Thank you!
happy lil flowers:)

Don't you love it when your country's ex president is detained because the US seeks extradition? I love my country **sarcastic eyeroll**

Haiku bot, you help me see the beauty in this miserable world and for that, I thank you.
these are honduran white bats! despite their name, they can be found in honduras, nicaragua, costa rica, and panama. they are one of the few bats that dont live in caves, they exclusively live under leaves. A colony is composed of one male and 5-7 females. They mostly live off of fruits and some insects.Â
they are also only 3-4 cm big

I thought it was gonna last longer
the kids are alright.
This is kinda perfect.
if anyone ever tries to tell u that racism/sexism/ableism/etc. are ânaturalâ just show them this video
Those two that just could not come up with any differences! They were like âwe both got glasses, both got these red sweaters, maybe weâre different heigh- nope weâre the same height⌠well shit weâre perfectly the same!â
Those kids were perfect
Whenever I see this video Iâm always struck that the kids are so quick to say what their friends are GOOD AT or what their friends enjoy. Theyâre so quick to build each other up!
I love this ad so much. I watch it several times every time it comes over my dash.
âI used to not like lettuce but now I like lettuce.â Thatâs ALWAYS the cutest thing Iâve heard in like a month.
Whatâs also really interesting to me is listening to the kidsâ VERY adult thinking noises.
This is adorable
âDo you have anything else to say?â
âNo.â
Another thing to note is that they were not shy in letting anyone know what things they were good at, and thatâs wonderful.
