31 - Been lurking in the conformitygate tag for months, might as well start reblogging things - this might become a multifandom blog at some point - nsfw possibly
It reminded me of the situation with the watch and the fact that he started wearing it on the other hand in Season 5. Do you remember any other moments when he wore a backpack in a similar way?
Rewatching S4 for a fic - did we all forget that the Nina project is based in an old ICBM silo (I did!)? Owens literally spells it out, explains what an ICBM is and then says that it's now been repurposed for something even more powerful than a bomb - El.
El who supposedly dies by a bomb in the very next season?
So I just realised that WarGames gets name-dropped in the series (Will says the phone sounds like WarGames when they phone in to the Nina computer in S4)
Where’s Will, corruptiongate (2x04) — and 3 Musketeers
three friends biking to school
Will comes out of nowhere, looks like he’s not with them at all, placed in the very corner
the previous shot we have is Will at home
and the next scene after ‘the ghostbusters core 4’ is also at home, preparing for trick or treating, where on the left we see X is a lie and on the right butterflygate (yes, it’s those butterflies they have in Cali in s4, and the same Anna Baxter has in Tales!)
I’ve told you already what they’re planning to do with VHS: my suspicion of that was evoked by exactly such framing. I found unexpected things, examining Will’s locations in the shots, although I was thinking that the duffs were separating Will just visually and ‘psychologically’, but then I saw their vhs ratio and it clicked.
but they will not just crop Will out of the corners!
Will has always been erased visually from the narrative!
❗️It happens in the scenes from different POVs (which makes it possible for him personally communicate with his family or with Mike, but he doesn’t communicate with anyone anymore at all)
Even when Will participates, it’s done the way you can cut him out, and nothing changes: look, Mike doesn’t call him by his name:
this line has always felt like no one heard Will, and now I understand why: bc no one did.
Then the duffs hide Will behind the core 3:
Then we move to school, and there we see only Lucas and Dustin interested in Max
After school it’s again three of them on the bikes (We’re still playing, btw! Where’s Will?)
Like I said, after the morning scene, next time we see Will is again at home, and then Jonathan takes him to the guys, we can hear Dustin calling “Will!” from the distance, but we do not see Will’s friends acknowledging him personally. Only Mike. We’re gonna see not fully direct communication with Will’s other friends, and I believe, how we see him depends on the POVs.
Here’s Will’s POV, Mike’s there:
Dustin addresses Mike
Mike says “I am”, again without mentioning Will (like when he said who’s Will without calling him Will in the morning)
And again no name
More visual erasure:
👇And my absolute favourite one !!! 👇
I have NEVER understood why no one notices that the only thing wrong about 3 Musketeers is that there are 4 Musketeers! And obviously this is built around the task to make us question that.
But there are 3 Musketeers, bc Will is not there.
(add also three blocks of light behind them)
I wanted to include this into another big theory post, but it’ll take eternity to finish that one (especially with this amount of screenshots per episode, and I’ve collected a bunch by this point), and I was dying to share it asap :)
I know, you’re wondering what’s up with Crazy together, and surely it bothers me no less; I keep examining the story that couldn’t be told and have assumptions about what is going on, which I will share in the next posts!
tagging those ones who might be interested! fuck, but hasn’t it been really that on the nose???
Will was Eleven, when he left the Lab, he was Eleven, Ik I wrote it in the previous post, but like it was pushed right into our faces : he was eleven, he was eleven 😭 how many more times should’ve they shown it to us so that we’d actually hear:
he was Eleven (years old)
he was taken when he was 7, in 1978, that’s why he’s 007, and that’s why he’s 011 when he left.
so he’s obviously not literally 011, he’s 011 for us during 5 seasons, but he’s 007, as it was hinted, but there are some hints at 1978 in the show, and it adds up to his age being 7 and that promo materials hinting that he was 007.
Shout out to @lavenderlatte222 because her originally noticing the changes to the way the Demo enters the Byer's home in Ep 8 made me go on a search for other alterations to Demogorgans specifically in the VHS Edition and uh, yeah they did!
Notice how this shot from the VHS edition is blurry a bit on the demo's face? that's because they, for some reason, cut this clip short and quickly switch to Mike's reaction.
But in the original version, the camera lingers on the demo longer enough to get a full look without a blurry cut away:
Actually, it was long enough I was able to take a 2nd screenshot this time and the Demo actually tilts its head a little in the original before they cut to mike???
Also notice how the lighting is different in the original, because this version is longer, the lighting that flashes on the Demo happens earlier before the it opens it's mouth as opposed to how it does in the VHS Edition.
So, I had no idea how to show this properly through just screenshots, so I made a quick edit.
They completely altered the scene where Dr. Brenner gets attacked too😭
I made an edit where I play each version separate and then play them in sync with one another, and then again in slow-mo. The VHS Edition actually prolonged the scene and I had to cut part of it in the beginning to make it sync up properly‼ Just FYI.
Please note The 1st/top clip is always the standard/original version and the 2nd/bottom clip is always the VHS Edition version. I had to put the video in 2:3 Portrait mode to fit the clips properly.
(I tried to lower the volume on the clips since Tumblr loves to jump scare you with loud audio)
but please watch this and tell me what you see. Because I see a difference in both versions. In the original release, the demo moves in to the frame slanted and it's back is completely curved & it also moves more quickly.
In the VHS Edition, it moves in straight-forward with a straightened back and just lunges forward, and also more slowly, which actually made the clip a tad longer than the other so I had to shorten the beginning of it so that they sync up properly sound-wise.
chat, watching vhs version, can I ask you to pay attention to the right and left edges of the shots?
@acecreamsandwich posted these:
and it made me think of this:
we don’t have s2 yet, but as soon as we do, pls check how they crop such shots! ‘such’ as in: having Will in the border
Jesus, I’m so sure there’s no way to crop it with no consequences and that’s gonna be the hype of s2
my pulse is racing again… like I was wondering exactly about this kind of framing with Will today, not even thinking about vhs ratio… chat, you see that this might be huge, right? 🫠
they can crop out Dustin ofc, but smth tells me they will not
I can see already that as soon as non-cg bylers will hear that vhs crops Will out from s2, the shit will hit the fan 🤣 little will they know that it’s on purpose but not bc the duffs hate will
chat, why is Joyce afraid of the phone call? I keep rewatching it and I don’t get it. it looks like she’s traumatised by the phone fuckery since Will went missing, but if it was so, they could not restore the phone? If it’s this problematic. Or why would she ignore it? it looks and feels ominous, and I don’t see connections to anything happening around in the episode, maybe I still forgot something… I need a fresh pair of eyes…
Did someone else notice that we can see the supernatural creatures more in the VHS version? Like holy fk, the scene of Will in season 1 episode 1 when he is in the little cabin, we can barely see the Demogorgon in the original version, but in the VHS version it almost clear as day. I don't if you guys understand how big that is, THE VHS VERSIONS ALLOWS US TO SEE MORE THAN WE DID BEFORE
