Then, the man’s face drops into a slightly startled expression, intrigued but wary, and he watches the crowd around them as if searching for something.  Their eyes meet and Verso sways on his feet as colours start bleeding into the world around him. Oh.  The man gasps, blinking rapidly. And Verso runs. He keeps running through the back alleys of Lumière and doesn’t allow himself to stop even when he stumbles over his own feet. His eyes burn from the colours, his heart is pounding as if he was running for hours, and he can’t seem to be able to catch a full breath. He’s now in the district in the outskirts of the city that’s mostly abandoned and he dives into one of the uninhabited buildings. He falls to the floor, taking a seat in the empty room, comforted by the shadeless darkness. It can’t be happening. He does not have a soulmate.

Soulmate AU! This is the world of Clair Obscur, but with the concept of og!Verso having added soulmates to the canvas, joining his creations up so that they never have to be alone - and, obviously, painted Verso reacts incredibly badly when he eventually pings and matches with our boy Gustave.

It's so fantastic getting to read through their shenanigans. Monoco's presence is particularly delightful, there to act on our behalf and tell Verso when he is being an absolute idiot. It's such a great read.
