TED LASSO S4 THOUGHTS

S4E01 - HOME

I was honestly a little underwhelmed by this first episode. Some of the writing was rlly kitschy. I know that Ted Lasso is known for its feel good attitude however this felt more like a parody of the Ted Lasso style writing than what we had before.

I think that the stuff with Henry was really strong and then the scene at the end with Ted looking over all his Richmond stuff and reminiscing on what he’s missed was pretty impactful.

I have decided, however, that Dottie is just evil. Like she served her purpose in s3 as a cameo into why Ted had this toxic positivity parts of him. But seeing her more rlly just showed that she is a pretty toxic person (getting rid of the Richmond scarf is crazy).

Jamie not longe being at Richmond is devastating but unfortunately very realistic. He’s too good to stay domestic. But seeing Roy with the FA cup is very satisfying. I was also a Roy is a great coach truther so I’m glad to be vindicated.

Overall I think this episode just had a lot of pressure put on it to catch up everyone from the past 3 years, and also set up the story, and move it forward. So lots of exposition and chunky pacing.

That being said I’m very much looking forward to this women’s team and getting to know the new characters!! Obviously want to see Roy and Jamie eventually as well.

A much better episode. I LOVED all the women. I LOVED the lesbians. I LOVED Coach Chilton. I loved the chemistry between Brett and Juno. Jamie mentioned AGAIN.

I think the writing was overall much better and a much more similar vibe to the original sound of Ted Lasso. Being back in that spot with those sets was such a warm fuzzy feeling.

Now. I was incredibly annoyed by rebecca pretty much this whole episode. Coach Chilton giving her just a touch of judgement and she's calling her a Bitch/Cunt/nasty word for a woman. Chilton is very similar personality wise to Roy so the fact that people are calling her difficult and hard to deal with but also loving Roy is... hm. AND I GET THAT'S THE POINT AND THAT THIS WILL MOST LIKELY BE ADDRESSED AND HANDLED IN THE SHOW. But Rebecca has a shit ton of side-eye from me rn. Her telling Alice to give her empathy when Alice literally just asked her if she even considered a woman for head coach is just so stupid sorry Rebecca. UR WRONG.

Anyways. Much better episode. Roy was hot as fuck. Keeley was hot as fuck. Looking forward to next week.

At least as far as Season 3, Ted Lasso is a lovely feel good show with a real passion for association football, just as long as you kinda ignore that bit where the main character tells one of his players to forgive the shithead dad who was an accomplice to and facilitated the statutory rape of that player as a minor as if they'd just had a little falling out, and then the show goes on to try and give that very shithead dad a minor redemption arc without ever engaging seriously with the severity of abuse the player was subjected to. But yeah, if you ignore that, great show

I'm taking nothing away from OPs post here... BUT...

I think a lot of people confuse forgiveness with trust.

Forgiveness is internal.

Forgiveness is NOT the harmed person saying: "What you did to me was okay. Now let's move on".

Forgiveness IS the harmed person saying: "I refuse to keep being harmed by what you did to me."

Ted didn't tell Jamie to let his father off the hook for the years and years of cruelty, abuse and assault. Ted told Jamie to break free of the control his father held over him which - in Jamie's own words to his mother - was the driving force of everything Jamie did in his life.

Jamie was spiralling in Mom City because he'd never gone so long without his father hassling him, hurting him or demanding money. And the longer James kept his distance, the more Jamie fell to pieces as he waited for him to re-emerge. It was messing with his head. It was messing with his life. It was messing with his game. When Ted told Jamie to forgive his father, he was simply saying "life doesn't have to be like this for you and you can let him go".

Do I agree with Jamie actually reconciling with his dad at the end? Not particularly. But I do agree with his choice to forgive him. We don't get to control who hurts us in life. But we can control whether we let their actions keep harming us for the rest of our life.

Having thoughts about Jamie again. Potentially trigger warning: discussion of sexual abuse.

I find it so deeply interesting that Jamie hyperfixated on the city where he was sexually abused. He rlly learned everything about the city and its history from past to present. Like he was trying to fill his head with so much information about the city that if he thought about Amsterdam he wouldn’t have to think about that.

I guess it kinda worked.

the amount of Jamie hate I've been seening over the past few days is honestly shocking. "Keep Jamie far away from them" and things along the lines bc of the roykeeley teases in the trailer. It's honestly so gross.

As if Jamie isn't a vital part of both of those characters and their growth. At the end of s3 these people are friends. Close friends who care about one another. They want to be in each others lives. I've seen people say that Jamie needs to grow up and leave them alone. Truly like what are we doing here? Taking shipping out of it why is it wrong for Jamie to be friends with Roy and Keeley?

The way you can legitimately pick Jamie's ass out of a lineup is crazy. He's quite literally built different
