I just wanna say something to our high school studyblr community:
YES you want to go to college. YES college is an exciting time in your life.
HOWEVER
College in real life is NOTHING like they portray it in the movies:
Sororities aren’t all preppy girls.
Fraternities aren’t all preppy/douchey guys
You are probably not going to be able to balance doing everything and keep your sanity
You’re probably gonna have a mental/emotional break down at least once
There is injustice.
Not everything is fair
The wifi won’t work sometimes
College food is incredibly unhealthy most of the time
your roommate will probably be one of those roommates
one night stands aren’t gonna be magical and fun sometimes
parties aren’t always what they show in the movies.
You might injure yourself at some point.
Some residence halls don’t have elevators and a lot of floors.
some professors want you to fail
financial aid and admissions are going to be your worst enemy
blackboard fucking sucks.
You’re going to want to quit school.
You’re going to want to come home every single day.
Some days you’re gonna want to run away
some days you’re going to want to chug a bottle of liquor because life sucks
And you know what? It’s gonna be okay. College isn’t all rainbows and butterflies: it’s hard work. It’s late nights studying for a subject you absolutely hate. It’s nights alone in your room while your roommate is out with their significant other wondering how you’re ever going to move past that bad grade. It’s a breakup at a bad time in your life. It’s freaking out because you forgot an assignment that was worth a lot of points.
HOWEVER
It’s also those afternoons where your roommate and their SO is talking and laughing and joking about everything under the sun with you. It’s quiet nights looking up at the stars wondering where this life is taking you. It’s getting that perfect grade you worked weeks for. It’s going to that party and jumping out of your comfort zone.
College is nothing like the movies. It’s deeper. It’s much more than what movies provide for you as an example.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll stay it again: this generation has taken the “education” out of higher education. Take everything you hear about college with a grain of salt. Ultimately, it is up to you how you experience college, but don’t take a movie or social media’s word for how college is going to be. College is not going to be the most exciting time of your life. You have so much time ahead of you to have even more exciting experiences with the people you love most.

a few non-cutesy study tips
i keep seeing study tips that are kind of cute and repetitive, so i just thought i’d share some things that i find are super helpful during a study sesh. there’s just five, so you can use your highlighters and whatever still, just look over these please. cx
change your font from arial or times new roman to comic sans or a very ugly font. read up here and understand why i say that. i know, it’s displeasing to the eye, but after you study for a few days or before your exams, you can change it back to a more pleasing font. this is if you’re a visual learner and take notes on your laptop/computer. also change it to a smaller font or big and bold!
when studying, read out loud. same thing goes for when you’re writing or typing your notes. if you read or speak out loud, you’re able to memorize easier and have it stuck in your brain rather than reading the same thing over and over again, trying to understand what it means.
walk or stretch on test day or lecture day. studies show that light exercises 20 minutes before a test or lecture help you be more awake and your brain is more active. it can help jog your memory. i remember when i was in school that my spanish teacher had five minute stretch breaks in class so we wouldn’t forget information and shtuff.
teach someone what you’ve learned so you can explain it in your own words and it challenges you to hack your brain for information. this helps for tests and quizzes.
create a real life mind map by picking a room in your house and associating a term or person to a specific item in that room. do this for a set of terms/people you need to know for a test or quiz and walk yourself around the room (either in your mind or physically). touch or imagine you’re touching the item and remember what term/person was associated with that item and you’ll remember what the definition is or what that person’s significance was. also, don’t use the same room for multiple sets of terms/people/etc. for example, i use my living room for health terms. now, the item doesn’t have to be at all related to your term or person; it just holds association physically and mentally. in my living room, my couch is the circulatory system. when i sit on it or am taking a test and i use my mind map, i’m reminded of what the circulatory system is. try it out and tell me how well it works for you!
that’s it for now. i hope these helped!! let me know if they did or if they didn’t.
