Born originally as Kira Maymeir, to con-artist parents who claimed to originate from the Mid-Rim. Rey never knew where. Their name was simply a play off of their motherโs first name and married name: Katiara Maymeir
Despite being born as that name, it was never used and thus would mean nothing to her if she came across it (unless already given reason to pay attention) other than a little tingle in the force.
Rey was a small child, and an unintended one at that, as their parents moved from system to system. They couldnโt be trusted to remember the intricate details of their fake backstories every time they came up with new ones - so they were told very little by their parents about who they all were.
The name they used for Rey always held similar โKโ and โRโ sounds, because they changed their identities to hide too often, and she was a kid (a liability), so the less she knew the less she could say the wrong thing or be questioned just in case. ย
By the time they was old enough to start really remembering and was left on Jakku, she was called Rey. That's the last name they knewย and Unkar didn't know whatย their real surname was, so he just left it as Rey - which is why they go by ย "Just Rey" when we meet them.
She was sold to Unkar by her parents, after being stranded on the planet for a few months. She was sold to pay off the remainder of a debt they had amassed while at Niima Outpost, along with things they had salvaged to get off the planet.
This was also what introduced them to the concept of Scavenging, having watched her parents and been dragged along on a few trips when they needed the extra hands. As a small child, they could fit in spaces they couldnโt for tricky loot.
Rey watched in horror as her parents fly away on a ship, screaming for them to come back as she was dragged away by Unkar. Her arm outstretched as if she believed she could pull them back to earth... only to summon a deep hidden power inside of herself and do just that --- sending the ship crashing to the ground. Destroying it and her parents by mistake.
Unkar didnโt believe in concepts of the force, and assumed there was an engine failure --- but it didnโt stop the young child from being traumatized by the event (for even though she didnโt understand that she had done it, some part of her blamed herself nonetheless). Leading to them, with Unkar playing along and supporting them doing this, burying the memory and convincing themselves that their parents were going to come back one day.
Reyโs memories and dreams are haunted only by the image of a ship leaving her in the distance and being dragged away. She was too young to recognize the flaws in her family, often portrayed as games they were playing to her younger self. All of this leading to a fragmented and hazy perception of her youth before she was left to the wastes of Jakku. Along with it, her force ability was suppressed due to the trauma of causing her parentโs deaths. Something she couldnโt work through if blocked the memory of the event.

Not a Divergence, but a contextualization
Rey feels a call to the lightsaber, as the force seeks balance and senses them as a potential figure to restore that balance. They has no bond to the saberโs legacy, for they had none of their own --- but they are connected through something stronger and universal. Something they donโt understand yet.
Her Force Vision, giving her glimpses of the future, memories the force holds of the past (not her own memories, but the living memory of the force that connects everything and everyone across all times). There is the tiniest stir of a battle inside of her, over her nature.
The light leading them to Skywalker. Showing her the fallen hero, showing them his droid with the power to help find him. Giving them an idea of why he ran away and why they must find him. The voice of his mentor, Kenobi pulling them from the horror show at the end with encouragement.
In contrast with the dark, showing her the horrors of the First Order and Knights of Ren - reminding her of her fear and anguish as an abandoned child... but trying to stir something deep rooted (to no avail, at least not fully).
As both sides form the childhood memory, for their own cause. A reminder to Rey that they have power, they have always has been strong... and to pull and frighten them with the darkness within themselves. Within all life. Flashes of Starkiller Base, The Forests and the Weapon, warnings of what is on the horizon. Setting the stage for them to start taking their place.
However, itโs so much --- repressed trauma and fear prompting her to run away from it all. Wanting to choose neither. ย She doesnโt want to be a piece for Light and Dark to fight over --- she just wants to go back to Jakku, to what she knows and where she knows herself. ย Moreover, although still buried, she cannot help but feel a trauma response to the feeling of the same power in her mind and body flowing through her now as it did the day her parents left. She cannot really put words to her feelings, and wouldnโt be able for years.
Additionally, they accept what Maz Katana says to them by the end of the adventure, what they wish for isnโt on Jakku. The false memory, although they donโt know itโs false yet, is attached to a dream that will never come to be. Their parents left them, they arenโt returning. They donโt know to process this, even if they knows itโs true. ย

Not a divergence, but contextualization.
Rey had to know deep down that her lineage wasnโt anything more than what sheโd been told her whole life. The daughter of nobody, but as she continued down her path and she felt tossed into a game of legendary and legacy ridden players --- she couldnโt help but wonder what was her place in all of this. Her past was a source a pain, and some part of her hoped that perhaps there was more than what she remembered. The Tales of Luke Skywalker had him begin like she did, only to uncover he had a great history. What if she did too? Han, Luke, Leia... she couldnโt help but look for the answer in them. Someone who would come in, with a smile and open arms and welcome her into a new history where she didnโt have to be herself anymore. Where she would be given the answer to who are you, the question that tore her apart. Who are you Rey, and what will your place in this be?
The answer hurt more than they expected it to; they had never felt so cold and isolated in their life. They were alone. It was just them. There was no magical answer to the most complicated questions in their head. Hearing that meant they had no easy way out of their conflict; it meant that these problems were theirs to figure out and potentially mess up further.
Ben Solo confirms this in their confrontation bluntly; informing her that her parents were what she always suspected. Drunk Con Artists who ย sold her when it was profitable for them to do so. That they werenโt coming back. She is just her and alone.
Or, - upon later reflection, did it mean that because they ad no great legacy to guide and shadow their every move... that perhaps they had the most freedom to decide what that was going to be. Nobody could tell them that they were good or bad, that they were limited to what a Skywalker, Solo, Organa, etc was meant to be. They were Rey, and they would have to figure that out. Which was the absolution they began to work towards once Rey left Ahch-To.
She begins training more intently, and begins having visions and dreams of possible futures and glimpses of the past she canโt make sense of. All of them progressively reminding her of the darkness in her. The alternate fate Snoke and Ben saw; the darkness that had been dueling the light inside of her since the Awakening.

It was six months after the events with Luke that it happened. Rey had been piloting a small craft, on a task for the Resistance when they were over come with what could only be described as some strange energy. The craft had begun to malfunction with no discernible cause --- and any attempt to remedy it was ruined when they were blinded by a whiteness in their eyes. A blinding nothingness that was accompanied with the loudest silence possible - it had been so strong that Rey had collapsed on the spot.
Or rather, they assumed thatโs what had happened --- considering they came to, their craft was a bit discombobulated but otherwise fine. Minus the fact that she was nowhere near where sheโd been only moments prior. Rey would soon discover that they had moved not only in space, but time as well. To an era far before they were born. Nor was she the only one who had experienced this.
Some disruption in the force had seemed to cause bleeding across timelines --- pulling people here and now for some strange reason - Rey was far from the first to experience this.
Searching for any friendly face, Rey eventually found Poe Dameron. Although he were slightly ahead of her in their time --- having someone they knew made the adjustment so much easier to process. Not that it made it painless entirely, but having the support was nice.

(Details mentioned here, stem from previously plotted details, or items that have come up in threads. These may be subject to change as the group continues to evolve.)
Rey has spent the first period of their time here, trying to regain their bearings and adapt to the strange new version of reality sheโs landedย
Additionally, theyโve been able to touch base with many of the force users and participate in debate over the future of the Jedi - and if there should even be one in the first place.
Presently, Rey is attempting to remain useful to their allies - while attempting to learn more about the Ways of the Force --- all while trying to silence the fear in her mind that threatens to pull her into darkness like so many before.
Friends have been made with Zeb, from the Ghost Crew - as well as been able to connect with a version of Leia Organa from the current time. The state of their friend, Finn - once more under the First Orderโs thumb is a point of great concern - along with their ongoing attempts to find balance with an apparently reformed Ben Solo.
