I just found this video on my hard drive and was just gobsmacked realising what a journey I've made in just a year. Because at this point I'm so comfortable with being me - so involved in the LGBTQ+ community, its history etc. and it feels like I've always been this way. But this was me having just admitted to myself that I was a lesbian (I couldn't even say the word back then) and I was so happy that I could allow all these thoughts - I could sing and think about this woman I had a huge crush on without these thoughts trying to quiet those feelings down - I could finally be myself. Just as I am. And for the first time in my life I had reason to hope that one day I might find love. Since then I've made many trips down memory lane and just... how did I not realise this sooner? - I used to want to be with boys just to be closer to their mothers... I obsessed about all the women in my life and I wrote a flipping love song to my sixth grade teacher... In the words of my friend, "Well... I thought, either you're gay or just insane." Also 2020 was probably the worst year to come out because I couldn't... you know, go out. On another note I found Gentleman Jack... and that's... well - it's basically my life at this point. No regrets though. I love and only love the fairer sex.
