I must be leeching sadness off me. I'm toxic radio active decay. Everything is worse for everyone else when I'm around. It doesn't hurt me tho. I've always been me. I'm just bad. Just seal me in some glass. Don't open my letters. Dunk me in the deep end of a pool becasue of my nature.

âThe hardest part was pretending I was okay so you would not feel guilty.â
Worth saying every once in a while: parents are an oppressor class, the ur-oppressor class, and parental authority is the ur-authority. As has been so often said in science fiction and so little appreciated in everyday life, the responsibility that comes with creating life is grave, and such projects, if undertaken at all, should not be undertaken lightly. If you decide to do it you must be prepared to do it justly, and if you do not do it justly you are culpable. To act justly from a position of power means to relinquish that power whenever it is not disastrous to do so. Parents have a responsibility to work towards their children's safety and wellbeing and a greater responsibility to respect their children as people and to cede authority over their children's lives judiciously as this becomes viable in each domain.
The problem of just parenting is difficult and perhaps unsolvable, but I'm not an anti-natalist, so in the meantime we must settle for minimally unjust parenting. On a personal level, understand what a grave thing it is to take up the de facto authority of parenthood. On a political level, the power of parents as a class must be absolutely broken. Child liberation now.
That anarchist meme that says "the only authority I respect is my mom"? Fuck that meme. Your mom may be a good person and you may love her very much, and I support you in this, but she has no more justified authority over you than a cop or a teacher or anyone else. Free your mind.
To be clear, I have a good relationship with my own parents, and in fact my views on the importance of respecting children as people come in large part from my mom, who has always felt very strongly about this topic. But as an adult I can recognize that even they did things, often normal things, while raising me that (although I would never say this to them) were fundamentally unconscionable to do to another human being. It's the nature of being a parent in our society. We have to change this.

Yes! Often when I talk about childrenâs rights, I bring up the HSLDA, homeschooling, and high-control groups, because they are examples of the worst kind of behavior which is politically advocated for. Itâs important to recognize that many common practices of parenting are also unacceptable. For example:
- The practice of spanking remains controversial in the US, despite the clear evidence against using it.
- Withdrawing the ability to access basic needs such as privacy, social interaction, and leaving the house is treated as losing a privilege, and an appropriate alternative punishment to spanking.
- I have trouble describing this precisely, but thereâs a way that children are talked to as if their interests are fundamentally secondary to their parentsâ. One manifestation is that childrenâs opinions are treated as unserious; Iâm thinking of that post thatâs like, âall opinions of 14 year olds are wrong/misguided because theyâre 14.â I was incredibly self-serious as a kid, to my because I desperately wanted to be treated as rational
- Another manifestation of this is that the desires of children are treated as unreasonable. Teenagers especially are coerced into participating in things which they donât want to do, and their discomfort is generally treated as a joke. Iâm thinking specifically of that post about seeing a teen in goth gear trailing behind their family on a hike, and how that was a rite of passage. That sucks! Being forced to do something is harmful even if the activity itself is harmless!
A lot of this comes down to parentsâ ability to withhold something on Maslowâs hierarchy of needs. Itâs widely recognized as abusive when a parent withholds food or shelter. Itâs not widely recognized as fucked up when a parent withholds something a few rungs higher. My parents wouldnât let me read for enjoyment in order to punish me. I know other people whose parents wouldnât let them hang out with their friends, or restricted access to their car or their phone in order to punish them. Thatâs a fucked up experience to be normalized as âbeing grounded.â
She took my fucking mind palace, I'm thinking out of my mind car now.

i love thinking and reading critically at all times i love analyzing media even when itâs low brow or adolescent or when Iâm just decompressing. i love you themes and motifs and author bias revelation i love you media literacy <3
i donât really empathize with wanting to just turn my brain off to consume content mindlessly or shutting down critical thought processes with âitâs not that deepâ. i love thinking in depth about the media i engage with, even when itâs ânot that seriousâ. i love asking âwhat did the writers want us to think in response to thisâ and âwhat thought patterns and belief systems led the creator to present this work in this manner.â and i love rereading my own work with fresh eyes to examine it too, making revisions or just appreciating my growth. it might feel exhausting or overwhelming at first if youâre used to a consumerist approach to media (i.e. watch, donât think) but the more you exercise media literacy the more reflexive and second-nature it becomes and, ime, the more gratifying it becomes to read and watch content. no more anti intellectualism!
they should invent a sleep that is goodnight đ´ and maybe even sweet dreams. hold on, I'm going to try something. if you don't hear from me in the next hour, it worked
Also why is every mormon leaders message "share the gospel" its almost like its not about reaching toward divinity or believing in a higher power. It's about "inviting your neighbors and children" until they stop talking to you
I'm at this stupid mormom meeting cause my parents will not let me live at thier house while I divorce my ex. The leader is talking about the intimate details of his daughter's attempt to escape the church. He is telling her personal struggle with faith and they are laughing l. They are laughing at her struggle with faith and her cross country move away from her family.
Anyway, some day I will move out. I will control my life. I will never pretend to be a mormon again. I will never walk through those stupid halls. And when my family shares my descent into "wickeness" I hope they laugh and think less of me. I hope their testimony of a dead man is strengthen by my family's rejection of me. I hope they sympathize with my parents and they comfort my parents and family. I hope I am dead to them. I hope I am nothing more than an anecdote. I hope their happiness comes from hatred. I hope they never evolve. I hope they never love me. I hope I sicken them.
