yo what's up with "non canon dreamscaperers"
the canon that this isnt canon for isn't the show, it's @greentea-and-honey's fic Tabula Rasa (for the uninitiated, this is one of them "stan raises shifty because ford was raising shifty" fics)
the idea is I Know Shifty Has To Be Drop Kicked Out Of The Kids' Plot But What If They Were There In Dreamscaperers
[ID: A two-page uncolored, partially lined comic. First, there is an outside view of the Mystery Shack as it appears in Stan's mindscape. Then, inside, Mabel opens a door.
"Whoa," she says, then, grinning, "Is that a kid!"
Dipper, Soos, and Remy, this fic's version of Shifty, appear in the doorway, all looking inside with wide eyes. Inside the room/memory, a younger Stan is cooking while a kid reads a comic at the table.
"How's that comic treating ya?" Stan asks. "This is the one with the bat guy, right?"
The kid erupts in furious protest. "WHAT," they say, "No, this has Nightcrawler, it's completely different! Weren't you paying attention!"
Stan laughs. "Yeesh! I get it Mouser, I'm the worst!"
"MOUSER?" Dipper, Mabel, and Soos shout. Remy stands between them, deeply uncomfortable. They block the doorway with their body and shut it.
"Would you believe me if I said he's talking to someone else he calls Mouser?" they ask. "No," Dipper says.
Mabel's eyes sparkle. "Wait Remy, is Grunkle Stan YOUR DAD?" She tackles them. "Are you our uncle!"
"Cousin," Dipper corrects.
Remy attempts to shove her off. "Stan isn't my dad. He just... watched me. When I was growing up. Sometimes. (All of the time)."
"Is THIS your super secret backstory?" Mabel asks.
"Yeah, wait, why were you so weird about telling us this?" Dipper says.
"Uhhhhhh" Remy says, then rallies. "Would YOU want to admit that Stan was a major adult figure in your life growing up?"
"Absolutely not," Dipper says, then has a horrifying realization. "Wait." He grabs Mabel and shakes her, stricken. "Mabel, is Stan a major adult in our lives RIGHT NOW?"
Mabel grins, then says "I'd say so!"
Remy leans down and puts a hand on their shoulders. "Yeah, you kids are screwed."
"That's a bad word!" Mabel reminds them.
"Don't tell Stan." End ID.]
