ER (1994-2009) 2x01 Welcome Back, Carter!
I need more ADHD Robby.
Hear me the fuck out. Noah Wyle is ADHD and it bleeds through with his stimming. That man is physically incapable of standing still. Rocking, shifting, drumming...
And Robby does it all. Plus that boy thrives in the chaos of a trauma room. The more hectic, the more his brain gets the happy pats and quiets down. It's where his anxiety is forced to take a backseat. Where his depression is told to shut the fuck up. All the negative voices are pushed behind a line because the dopamine is dopamining and there's so much going on that there's no room for the other fuckery his brain is trying to drag to the front.
Gimme a Robby on Vyvanse who doesn't feel the hunger at all during the day but is ravenous once the meds wear off and he's home.
A Robby who is on a high enough dose that he's on his fucking A Game but still stims because it doesn't fix everything and he's getting dysregulated the more his mental health declines so the stimming is increasing.
Gimme a Robby who forgets to take his meds one day and the ED gets to see the full goblin that he is just ping ponging so over the place because no matter what he's still brilliant, he just can't focus on one thing at a time right now but as soon as a trauma comes in he can LOCK THE FUCK IN.
A Robby with hyperfixations.
A Robby who talks Jack's ear off about said hyperfixations. But once they're done he never mentions them again.
He'll eat the same thing for every single meal for three months in a row and then all of a sudden be repulsed by it.
A Robby with such horrible Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria that Dana often has to step in and redirect his brain and it doesn't always work.
A Robby that can't ever seem to get paperwork in on time.
A Robby that's always early because he's so terrified of being late because of his time blindness that he arrives for his shift at 6am and ends up sitting in the park panicking still that he'll miss it (he never does. Dana or Jesse usually grab him).
A Robby that has always been a reader because THAT holds his attention as long as he is interested in the book but it will literally CONSUME him to the point that he'll read the whole thing in one night and needs Jack to physically take it out of his hands and tell him to go to bed.
A Robby that knows just enough about so many topics. Has doom boxes filled with abandoned hobbies. Impulse control with money. A Robby that, when he gets into a topic, won't shut up, but is so self-conscious about it that he's become a master of masks.
Forgetting his meds is like ripping that mask off and he doesn't know what to do with himself.
has anyone done this yet idk?
funny little headcanon is that i believe if victoria ever came out to her mom that shamsi would be like 'okay, that's fine. but i still don't understand why you do not want to go into surgery. all the other gay women are in surgery; do you not want to be a gay surgeon like yolanda and emery? what about your lesbian friend trinity, doesn't she want to do surgery as well? you can do better victoria'
once these 15 million different stressful situations resolve themselves I’m gonna be so normal again. I can be normal and not exhausted
You don’t have to belong everywhere (textile home)
you always know you’re in for a good time with Midsomer when every single person in the first fifteen minutes of the episode is an unbelievable asshole
currently obsessed with british murder mystery tv shows where all the murders happen in the same town in every episode and everyone's just like oh yep there goes another one, just another day in shirefordtonstead
This is where the people who colonized Cabot Cove came from.
The absolutely essential aspect of these stories is complete, unbroken, total genre-blindness of all characters. If they, even momentarily, realize that their small town actually has a shockingly high murder rate, the effect is ruined. In an urban crime show like Law&Order or whatever, the cops can go to anybody on the street and say "We're investigating the murder of Jackknife Bob" and the witness is just like, "He got whacked? Oh well, I didn't do it." But in a Small Town Murder, it is absolutely imperative that everyone the detectives talked to is shocked that such a thing could happen! "Dear me, a murder? Right here in Shirefordtonstead? Good heavens!" Ma'am, it is season seven. You are the fifth proprietress of this quaint antique shop. The first three were murdered, and the fourth was the killer. In the normal, rational world, living among this high a murder rate would have a profound, dare I say traumatizing, effect on your worldview and your perception of your own safety. But you are not of the normal, rational world. Your unshakable and clearly counterfactual belief in the safety and stability in your surroundings is built into your character. And for this I love you. Never, ever change, Tiny Quaint Friendly Villages Full of Constant Murder.
And THIS is why Sister Boniface is set in Great Slaughter.

This would have had me crucified on tumblr 10 years ago but maybe we are ready for this conversation now:
If you are a socially anxious person, you have to socialize. Your panic/anxiety attacks will only get worse and trigger more frequently if you constantly avoid contact with The Public. Not saying that you need to be a social butterfly- but there is a genuine problem with not being able to order your own meal at a restaurant. And it cannot be solved by always having someone else do it for you.
This is a PSA to about 3/4s of the Portland Youth populace
everyone who reblogs this and is like "I ordered my own tea this week" or "I only barfed once when I had to give a presentation'- you are doing amazing sweetie. Have patience with yourself, you are relearning a skill so difficult that people get 4 year degrees to do it professionally.
I was innocently buying a soda and a Kit Kat bar from a snack shop recently when the cashier said, "Oh, a Kit Kat! That's what I named my cat!" and then launched into An Monologue.
Nobody was behind me in line, which seemed to be a good reason for her to treat me to a five minute retelling of the identification, rescue, and argument over initial custody of Kit Kat, who was so small they thought when they first heard him crying for help that he was a bird and not a kitten in a tree, and is now fifteen pounds of "pure, sculpted lardass".
And I didn't mind, precisely, I wasn't bored or anything, but around the time she was bringing me up to speed on Kit Kat's current status it occurred to me that this woman is a cashier in a store that primarily sells candy bars and beverages. People must buy Kit Kat bars from her multiple times a day. Does she do this every time there's nobody in line behind the purchaser? Did I just have that I Own Several Cats And Will Enjoy Your Cat Stories look about me? Was it the first time it occurred to her that she sold the brand of candy bar she named her cat after? Was she new to the job of selling Kit Kat bars?
The idea that every time she sees a Kit Kat bar she is gripped by the urge, Manchurian Candidate style, to retell the story of Kit Kat the Cat, elevates her from a friendly cashier to a deep enigma. Truly there is no knowing the mind of another.
IT GETS FUNNIER
I was in the same snack shop, which I'm in, like, once a month, recently. I only recognized her because I spent five minutes listening to this monologue in sincere wonder. But I did recognize her, so as I was buying a soda and a Milky Way bar (this time) I said, without thinking about how this would come across, "Hey, how's Kit Kat?"
She looked genuinely horrified and said, "What...how?"
"Oh fuck!" I blurted. "Sorry! You told me about him last time!"
This is still quite cryptic as responses go but she gave me a frankly frantic look of sudden recognition and said, "He's fine! You bought a Kit Kat! I was unmedicated!"
I did not inform her she is small town famous on Tumblr and instead just said, "Glad you're both doing well!" and we parted as confused and mortified friends.
Gosh she's fun. I hope she's there next time. I want to reenact the Spiderman Pointing meme with her.

say what you will about santos’s bedside manner but dr empathy and understanding couldn’t figure out that patients deal with a full exam, meanwhile santos walked in said “you look stupid, did you do something stupid?” and left with a diagnosis 30 seconds later
