just remembered this exists
I actually recommend everyone write for a rarepair once because it completely changes your relationship with fandom. Engagement stops being numbers and starts being names. You know who's going to show up. You recognize usernames. Someone disappears for a while and then comes back and you're like âOH MY GOD WELCOME HOME.â It's incredibly wholesome. It is also deeply inconvenient when all six of you simultaneously get writer's block-
dawg my discord got hijicked and sent out fuckin spam links... ive fixed it and still have access to the account but ughhh i now have to see if i cant get the guideline strikes off.

Your dialogue is stiff because everyone is being too honest
Great dialogue can come from radical emotional honesty. But in most real conversations, people
dodge questions
answer indirectly
lie (badly)
change the subject
crack jokes to avoid serious answers
lie (convincingly)
say half of what they mean
tell the truth but get so anxious/angry/defensive others now think they're lying
If your dialogue feels unnatural, it might be because everyone is saying exactly what they think, or articulating their thoughts too well. Try letting characters hide things instead.
Subtext is where tension lives.
more so,
people donât always speak in full sentences,
slang can change depending on age range, demographic, etc. &
donât be scared of vocal pauses (uhm, uh, err)
Pray for my cat. Nothing wrong with her she's just dumb.

âi canât do simple hygiene bc im depressedâ thatâs easy babe! just do simple hygiene
Yâall always have to wallow in your misery instead of considering maybe, just maybe, the encouragement people like this give is just telling people to do one, easy thing instead of worrying about a whole routine. Canât make yourself shower? Thatâs fine, just brush your teeth. Donât have the energy to do your hair? Okay, just brush your teeth.
Making 1 small change that can start improving your mood leads to other small changes. When I couldnât make myself shower I would make sure I changed underwear every day. And then I started using baby wipes to keep myself fresh. And then I worked my way back to trying to take showers every day. My record might not be perfect but Iâm getting better.
Itâs really unhealthy to keep the mindset that anyone who isnât miserable and suffering under their mental illness or emotional problems doesnât know what theyâre talking about. Maybe theyâve just grown to learn how to love and care for themselves in spite of what theyâre going through.
I donât know what any of you people think professional help looks like, but when you walk in and say âiâm too depressed to do anythingâ they donât just nod and say âwell youâre broken forever i guessâ. they donât say âhere take this pill and itâll fix everythingâ. they work with you one step at a time and explain to you that you CAN in fact do simple things even though youâre depressed. it isnât easy, but itâs not impossible, it just happens in small steps, but it isnât getting any easier when you react to every instance of someone trying to help by refusing to listen.
The advice he gives is seriously so solid. A lot of times itâs hard to motivate yourself to do something because it seems too daunting to commit to a full routine, so doing one simple thing can help you get motivated for the next simple thing and so on and so forth. Other posters are right, therapists, at least the ones worth anything, donât just throw pills at you and tell you youâre never going to improve oh well, they give you simple manageable tips to improve your situation.
Recovery is about baby steps at a gentle pace, not using it as a crutch to never ever try to make your situation better. No one said recovery is easy, but it does take at least a smidgeon of willpower/effort on your part. You have to want it enough to be willing to try. Iâm not saying you have to Just Do It and fix your life overnight but if you arenât willing to try then no one can help you.Â
I think those fancomics where Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes is transgender are cute and fun but I also think it's a deep misunderstanding of Calvin's character to think he would transition into a heterosexual normie who goes to her high school reunion. That girl would have neopronouns and fang implants
Adult Calvin is a tattoo artist named Panthera who is the bassist in a terrible metal band called Captain Napalm and Hobbes helps do faer E injections
I know it's like 2 weeks too late to change it but I'm so mad I didn't realize that the band would obviously be called "Get Rid Of Slimy GirlS". I walk the road of shame

If THE modern translator of the OG Odyssey text wrote this about my film adaptation Iâd kill myself
Emily Wilson youâre goated
She absolutely destroyed Nolan in this review O_O
"Without a tub of wax for my ears â which Himesh Patelâs ever anxious Eurylochus, Odysseusâs doomed right-hand man, uses to sail safely past the Sirens â I was exposed to the full din of thumping sticks, staffs, swords and clashing armour, thunderbolts, crashing waves, grunts, screams, toppling palaces and burning temples. But unlike Matt Damon, the wax-free Odysseus who is tied to the mast as he is conveyed past the Sirens (naked ladies reclining on some uncomfortable-looking rocks), I gazed at the shipwrecks and bloodbaths without any agony of emotion."
and
"There are more female characters than in most Nolan movies, thanks to the source material. But none of them has much to say, in contrast to the characterisations in the poem."
Well, that tracks for a Nolan film -
"The couple have no chemistry and nothing in common. Throughout his wanderings, the uxorious Odysseus clings to a little doll figure, intended to represent his wife (like the spinning top clutched by Leonardo di Caprio in Inception); the real woman is barely more interesting."
Yikes -
"If youâre not going to compose a script in Homeric Greek, or even in metrical English verse, you might as well use something like conversational American English. But writing dialogue is not one of Nolanâs talents. The language is relentlessly expository, humourless and flat."
The lines she calls out in this section will probably make a least a couple of my friends laugh incredulously -
"I was humbled to learn that Nolan has read at least the first line of my translation of The Odyssey into iambic pentameter. In at least one interview, he cited my version of the first line of the poem: âTell me about a complicated man.â But I would be ashamed to have written any part of this script."
....oh my GOD, EMILY -
"The most troubling ethical problem with Nolanâs Odyssey concerns the decision to film part of the movie in the occupied territory of Western Sahara, thus normalising the ongoing violence against the indigenous Sahrawi people. It is particularly galling that Nolan used this land simply as a visually striking backdrop for a film that centres, aggrandises and redeems the hero of a territorial war on account of his belated and partial acknowledgment of his own guilt."
And deepest respect that she didn't fail to mention the film's colonialism in production. You can tell she added the very last paragraph saying "'thanks for maybe getting people interested in classics" only because an editor begged her to say something - anything - nice about the movie.
Hereâs some are for the fic âthe devil is after both of usâ by @dark-elf-writes !! I look forward to every chapter and basically recommend as much as I can when people ask so figured I would just give in to my urges đ«¶

Bingliushen (with heavy emphasis on the BingLiu)
One of the ways BingLiu bond/show affection towards each other is with grooming. Liu Qingge may be the Bai Zhan War God, but first he was the first son of a wealthy family. He's not one to tolerate others fussing over him, so his (honestly surprising considering his passtimes) impeccable appearance is all self-made.
Cue 5 years of feuding with LBH and many more years of sparring for fun, with a strict post-workout bathing routine. Besides the bathtub shenanigans (No, Binghe, this tub is not big enough for two grown men to do any of that), LQG also gets quite used to helping Binghe wrangle his hair.
At first, it's just combing and oiling it - while Binghe takes care of Shen Qingqiu's hair with a deep reverence, every time LQG sees him that mop atop his head is evermore unruly. But one day Qingge starts automatically braiding a few strands together along the side of Binghe's scalp in the process of pulling the hair back to put it up. He doesn't realise he's done it until it is already done, and he's fitted Binghe's guan. Binghe looks up at him, none the wiser, so Liu Qingge decides to just leave it. Who cares anyway.
It becomes a longstanding habit. Spar, bathe, braid. Binghe tries to clumsily do LQG's, and Qingge teaches him how to do one properly. LQG comes in one day after their fight to see a neat braid done up one side of (still dead) Shen Qingqiu's head. His heart falls. Binghe peers at him, as if expecting to be scolded. He simply admires the work instead (Binghe has never let him touch Shen Qingqiu before).
Later, much later, Shen Qingqiu walks in (after taking a break from watching his two husbands sparring to instead visit Shang Qinghua) to find them sitting on their bed. Liu Qingge's fingers deftly parting and crossing over thick wefts of Binghe's hair as the disciple in question hums with a blissful expression on his face.
So that!! Was the origin of the famed Liu Braids Binghe wore from the second SQQ had woken up after his death! (All this time he'd been wondering when it was Binghe and LMY got so close. That small edge of jealousy he'd held unconciously in his heart eased ever so slightly).
