anyone who underestimates the relationship between kevin and andrew forgets that THEY ARE FRIENDS. they value each other for more than just the deal. andrew finds kevin interesting, and kevin genuinely cares about andrew’s future. I don’t believe they’re just aimlessly hanging out together and don’t know how to spend time together

you can’t convince me that if it’s anyone outside of neil, andrew would put himself on a deadline to get rid of his feelings Or Else. we never find out what Or Else is because he always manages to get rid of his feelings, because they stand in the way of everything else. especially when it’s kevin! being Involved ™ with kevin means accepting and acknowledging that there is a future out there for him (which andrew is allergic to because of the context of his entire life), accepting that kevin is right (he would rather kill himself) and potential distraction from his other promise to aaron.

you also can’t convince me that andrew lets kevin touch him properly, especially not the hair. i think kevin thinks about it all the time, but andrew is so properly closed off (and yet weirdly open at the same time that nobody bothers to crack the surface to get to what’s underneath) that kevin is never fully trusted with Everything. kevin helps andrew stay out of jail (see: hanging onto his medication) but that’s about the extent he can manage. 

kevin would so spill his feelings first in his kevin way (talking around it by accident, never directly saying what he means but swearing something in the Kevin Way à la You Should’ve Been Court) and andrew would’ve merced him on sight

kevin gives andrew purpose and reason to stay (because of the Promise), but he can’t make andrew want to be there like neil. and kevin fucking tries because kevin thinks he knows what andrew wants. he knows what andrew is good at and he sees a maintainable future for andrew, but it’s not what andrew wants. and andrew never tells him, because he doesn’t want kevin to make it a reality

kevin pushes andrew every single step of the way because he knows deep down on some level, andrew would like to be very good, but he knows it’ll never happen because of his exterior and his reputation and his instability. but “would like to” and “want” are not the same thing. kevin is pushing andrew along and andrew hates to be pushed, and kevin knows he doesn’t have enough of what andrew needs in order to really move his whole career/real desires along

i think kevin thinks the easy route is giving up on andrew entirely and letting andrew go about his business whilst protecting kevin, but the Right Way (according to kevin) is not being like everyone else and refusing to give up on andrew, because everyone gives up on andrew and loses what kevin thinks is an incredible goalkeeper with a lot of wasted potential.

#mykandrew... if i had the ability now that i have the time... i would decimate this concept (my made up context below the cut)

post psu kandrew in which they grow out of a heavy need/codependency for each other and andrew goes pro. something about the concept of not playing for kevin anymore (first guy to ever believe in him btw) while refusing to give his game entirely to anyone but kevin. something about the concept of palmetto state foxes being kevin's launching point on the way to the olympics (somewhere to get back on his feet and start over) but psu being andrew's dead end.

side note. will kevin call if he doesn't need protecting anymore? will kevin call about something other than the game?

hate this common misconception going around on tiktok right now that andrew never says no to neil and it being sacrilege when he does. one of the biggest points of andreil is that neil lets andrew say no repeatedly, however he wants, whenever he wants. (see: the “that’s why” conversation from the king’s men)
