My submission for the Womanstanley zine. The brief was work that explores Warrington/ Wigan or the north. So I decided to look at the pit and mill girls of Wigan. In particular their trusty Clogs. From here I decided to do it like a fashion magazine advert and look at how adverts centre on presenting the product as aspirational or life improving. For instance, if it’s for sportswear or if she’s meant to be in a harsh environment the model is dressed in a way that is totally at odds with her surroundings. I just thought it would be fun to imagine stuff being advertised in the olden days like it is today. Also, it’s for a ‘zine, and what does a zine need?
