Stiles is young. His mom is going to the doctor a lot but he doesn’t really know what’s going on yet. He just knows that his dad is sad all the time and sometimes his mom has to sleep at the hospital. One day his mom is napping upstairs. He’d been up there laying in bed with her for a bit, reading from his favorite book of fairy tales. He wanders downstairs when she tells him she needs some rest. He peeks around the entryway to the kitchen and sees his dad at the table staring into an empty glass, head in his hands.

Stiles only wants to cheer him up so he goes and puts on his dad’s too-big uniform jacket and sunglasses. The hem flaps against his knees as he walks into the kitchen. “Hey Dad! Look! I’m you.” The sheriff looks up, giving him a watery, wobbly smile. “Hey kiddo. Come here.” Stiles climbs up into his dad’s waiting arms and tucks his head under his chin. They sit there like that for a minute before Stiles whispers “Everything’s gonna be ok, dad.”
