I’m just curious but what dragon would you want (besides a night fury). I want a Monstrous Nightmare.
What dragon do you want?
Monstrous Nightmare
Deadly Nadder
Hideous Zippleback
Gronckle
Other (put in tags)
Them and their connection❤️🥰
Nine years ago, this very blog and this very Fandom introduced me to one of my best friends.
Today, after nine whole years of messages (starting with fanmail!) and video chats, I get to meet my friend in person for the very first time.
There's so many things I love about Fandom culture, but meeting new people with shared interests and making deep connections is my favorite part.
So thank you, How to Train Your Dragon, thank you tumblr, for making today possible.
@lilambah , I'm so, so excited to see you today!
Hiccup and Toothless going super fast

Grimmel taunts Hiccup “You are nothing without your dragon.”
Sometimes i want grimmel to just shut up
Good news! Grimmel has permanently shut up as of the climax of How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World!
I’ve always had this scene in my head where Hiccup has to explain what the dragon raids were like to someone (I’m picturing it being Eret, Viggo, Ryker, or someone else not from the Archipelago) and how they were getting worse and worse over the years, and him saying something along the lines of:
“There were 58 kids born in the same year as me. You’ve met the survivors.”
Many likely died due to the resulting effects of the raids (the lack of food, shelter, a mistimed blast, etc..) And it sort of can explain why the gang interact the way they do. They always protect each other, and they only get more protective as time goes on... but early on they seemed to be ready to accept when one of them died. It was just how life went for them. After all, they were used to losing their peers. Used to waking up to a new day with one less friend. Maybe that’s just one more reason why they rejected Hiccup before the whole “Red Death” incident. Why get close to the one who’s sure to be next?
And to throw a bunch of 14/15 year-olds into training like that?
Berk was dying.
Their way of life was not sustainable. We don’t know how often the raids truly were, it sounds like it varied at different times of the year, but either way, it was too much for them to go on much longer.
Whereas, in the series and especially in HTTYD 2, you see a lot of little kids. In the second movie, the majority seem to be around five or six years old—born after the war ended.
Hiccup saved more than everyone thought that day.
you all expect me to take you seriously….talking about “soulmates aren’t just a romantic concept!!!! more platonic soulmates. uwu.”…..and yet REFUSING to stan how to train your dragon (2010)….i cannot fucking imagine
no no i’m not done. toothless loses his left right tail flap while fighting a human….hiccup loses his left foot while fighting a dragon. hiccup has a scar on his chin from a dragon….toothless has a scar on his neck from a human. they are both isolated from their kin for different reasons and in the fall out from their individual conflict and pain find one another………their separate species are natural enemies, yet fate brings them together as outsiders in order to live out the friendship of a lifetime and you all SNUB THIS? THE POETICISM OF IT ALL. you ingrates are like “haha bee movie company” so you cannot SEE the GIFT of TENDERNESS that you’ve been GIVEN? good fucking night count your blessings
In its own twisted way, interpreting their relationship as romantic is actually more interesting, though.
The Night-Light babies flying alongside the boys.
EDIT: Error where second and third gifs were blank for a time has now been fixed!
It’s late at night in the Haddock home in New Berk when Astrid shifts in their bed and looks at her husband in question. “What’s wrong?”
He seems surprised. “Wrong? Nothing-“
“Hiccup.” She’s only slightly exasperated, giving him a knowing look. “You’ve been lying awake for hours, and I can’t sleep if you’re not asleep. So, what’s wrong?”
Hiccup knows he can’t lie to her - he respects her far too much, and he knows she’ll see through his lies anyway. So he sighs, pulling her as close as he can, which is regrettably not close enough given the protrusion of her belly, and looking up at the ceiling. He’s silent for a moment, and she wonders if he is going to talk at all - but then his voice is clear as day in her ear.
“Astrid, do you think... Do you think I’ll be a good dad?”
She’s taken aback by this seemingly random question. “Are you serious? You’ve been lying awake for hours wondering if you’ll be a good dad?”
“It’s stupid,” He says. “Sorry.”
But she shifts so that she’s leaning on her elbow, looking at him seriously. “Hiccup, are you seriously worrying about that? That you’ll suck as a father?”
“Well...yeah,” He admits quietly. “I mean, my dad, he...he was great, you know? Yeah, before I met Toothless it was...awkward and kinda strained, but I still loved him. I looked up to him, wanted to be just like him, wanted to make him proud - and I know he did love me, that he was proud, but for a long time I thought that he was disappointed in me. Disappointed I was his son.”
“Hiccup, you know that’s not true.”
He pauses for a moment, gathering his thoughts once more, still unable to look her in the eye. “I wanna be a good dad,” He finally manages, voice barely louder than a whisper. “I’m worried I’ll mess it up, worried they’ll think I don’t care or something. Worried that they’ll think I’m too busy Chiefing to make time for them, like my dad was. I don’t want that, Astrid.”
“It won’t be like that,” Astrid promises firmly, reaching for his hands in the dark and bringing them to rest on her swollen stomach. “You feel that?”
It takes a moment but sure enough, he feels energetic movement beneath his hands.
“They only ever get that excited when you talk,” She laughs, amused as his eyes widen slightly. “Don’t get me wrong, they kick and move anyway, but when you talk it’s so much stronger - like they recognize you already.”
“Oh.” He’s not sure what else he can say.
Astrid smiles even wider. “Hiccup, they already love you so much - it’s like they know you’re gonna be the best dad. And you will be, by the way,” She affirms. “You’ll teach them to draw, tell them stories, take care of them...I don’t doubt it, even for a second, even if you do. You already love them, right?”
“Yeah,” He says immediately, his voice oddly thick. “Of course I do.”
“Well, exactly. That’s all that matters, babe.” She links her fingers with his, studying his expression. “Our baby will be so lucky, Hiccup. Please don’t worry about whether you’ll be a great dad because I promise you that you will - I know you.”
She has a point. He manages a small chuckle, hurriedly wiping at his eyes before his tears can fall. “Yeah, yeah, you’re right, I know. You’re always right.”
Astrid grins. “I know.”
They curl up under the furs again; Astrid is just on the edge of sleep when she feels his fingers gently press to her stomach once more, his voice soft so as to not disturb her.
“I can’t wait until you arrive.”

THIS is a REAL family
An alternate idea to the post I had about Hiccstrid having a third baby (original post HERE)
When the Haddock family start to sail home, Astrid notices that Hiccup is deep in thought, clearly musing to himself. He entertains and dotes on their children as they chatter excitedly about Toothless and Stormfly, about the Light Fury and the Night Light hatchlings, but she can see in his eyes that he’s considering and full of thought. He needs time to process, given how bittersweet this meeting as been, so she decides not to say anything yet - he’ll come to her if and when he needs to.
When they get back to New Berk, it’s late evening and the children are exhausted from several days spent on a boat. They put the kids to bed with little restraint; Zephyr yawns and kisses her father goodnight, claiming that he’s “the best Daddy in the Archipelago” whilst Nuffink allows his mother to tuck him in, telling her that he loves her, that she’s “the coolest mummy” because she rides dragons and knows how to use an axe.
Once certain that the kids are asleep, the parents retreat to their own bed - though not to sleep, not just yet.
There’s something strangely satisfying about making love after their trip - being on a boat for nearly a whole week, sharing the small space with their two children, made it impossible to do this. There’s something about the way that Astrid claws at her husband’s back, seated on his lap, whilst the scruff of his beard brushes against her skin - it’s wild, though they are careful not to be too loud since waking the children is the last thing they want. It’s over far too soon, but it’s not going to be their only time - they have most of the night still.
Afterwards, they lie together, intertwined and trying to catch their breath; still panting, sated after climax, she hears her husband’s voice start to mumble.
“Astrid...” He’s quiet, absolutely wrecked from their activities. “I know, I know this is stupid but...let’s have another baby.”
Astrid’s eyes open, and she stares at him in bewilderment. “What?”
“Like I said, it’s stupid,” He chuckles, and he’s gazing at her face in pure and utter adoration. “But after this trip...seeing that Toothless is okay...I feel so complete. Like I don’t have to worry anymore that he’s doing okay. I think that it’s the right time, if we want to have another child.”
“We have two,” She reminds him, though she’s smiling to herself.
“I know, and look at how amazing they are,” Hiccup agrees. “Gods, I love them more than anything, just as much as I love you.”
Astrid hums, stretching out beneath the furs and pressing herself against the length of his body. “Remember when Nuffink was born,” She says gently, and she sees the smile falter slightly.
“Yeah... That’s why it’s dumb,” He admits. “I’m sorry...I shouldn’t have said anything. I know it’s not about what I want - I mean, you’d be the one doing most of the work for nine months - and birth is...yeah, no, I’m being dumb. Sorry.”
“I wasn’t saying no,” She tells him, cupping his face.
“So what are you saying?” He asks, and she can see that he’s hopeful again despite trying not to be.
She knows that she can tell him no, that he will respect her decision and say no more of the matter; he won’t resent her or love her any less, he will understand. He knows better than anyone how close she was to dying when their son was born, and she knows that it had nearly destroyed him. He adores Zephyr and Nuffink, and nothing will change that - he’s a good father, she thinks, a wonderful one. She has a choice, and she’s fully aware of that - she’s never once felt forced to have their children or to be anything other than herself when it came to him.
“I’m saying,” Astrid says softly, smiling widely. “That I’m a Viking - it’s an occupational hazard.”
“Astrid, I mean it,” He murmurs, though she can see the excitement brimming within him. “You don’t have to, not if you don’t want to-”
“What if I want to?” She interrupts, and there’s no trace of a lie in her voice or on her face. “Because, Thor help me, I do.”
“Oh. Oh, Astrid...” Hiccup breathes, leaning in to kiss her again. “Milady...”
“I want to,” She says again, wrapping her arms around his shoulders. “Let’s do it - let’s have another baby, Hiccup.”
He wastes no time in rolling on top of her, worshipping her body and murmuring against her skin about how much he loves her, how he will always love her, how he feels so lucky...and he does, he really does.
You’ve made my morning :))
this is so cute and sweet and fluffy and I have tears omg this was beautiful. thank you for thisssssss
(I’m going to turn these headcanons into proper fics eventually, just humor me)
After the Haddock family return from seeing the dragons for that final time, Hiccup is deep in thought on the sail home. He smiles and laughs and dotes on whatever Zephyr and Nuffink talk to him about or do, but Astrid can see that he’s not quite with them. She assumes it’s because of the bittersweet meeting with their dragons, having to say goodbye again, and she lets him have some time to himself - if he falls too far into a funk, she will intervene but for now she knows he needs time to process.
They get back to New Berk, and the people are happy to see the Chief and his family returned safely - none of them know where the family were, just that they had taken a trip. That night, after Zephyr and Nuffink are asleep, dreaming of dragons and flying, Astrid finds her husband standing in front of the fireplace; he still seems to be thinking.
“You wanna talk about it?” She asks, putting a hand on his shoulder.
Hiccup is silent for a few seconds before smiling, taking her hand and wrapping an arm around her waist. “Maybe. Just been thinking a lot, that’s all.”
“They’re safe,” She reminds him. “All of them are... And Toothless is happy. He has the Light Fury, and did you see their babies?”
He grins. “Fishlegs is gonna be mad he didn’t see them for himself.”
They both laugh at this before watching the fire together; Astrid can tell that Hiccup has something else he wants to say, something important, but she waits for him to feel ready - he will tell her when he’s comfortable, when he’s had his time to think. It’s oddly peaceful, feeling the warmth of the flames bathe them while the house is quiet - the children aren’t demanding their attention, and it’s just the two of them, having a moment together alone.
Finally, Hiccup clears his throat. “You know, the whole journey back, I was thinking...”
“How dangerous,” She jokes, and he laughs. “Sorry, go on.”
“Well...I was just thinking that perhaps that’s it,” He admits quietly. “At least for a few years. Toothless is happy, Stormfly is happy, and I just know that the others are too - Toothless will be taking good care of them all. So I guess I was just thinking that perhaps we should just...not bother them.”
It dawns on her what he means, and she peers at his face in surprise. “Hiccup...”
“I mean, I’m not saying never see them again,” He explains, somewhat heavily. “I just...they’re happy as they are, living their own lives. He...He doesn’t need me anymore.”
“That doesn’t mean he doesn’t love you,” Astrid tells him, though she understands. “He was so happy to see you, to see us.”
“Yeah,” He agrees gently. “But he doesn’t need me like he used to - and, Astrid, I realized that maybe I don’t need him like I used to either.” He swallows the lump in his throat. “It’s for the best if we don’t visit too often - all it takes is someone to follow us...”
“We can’t let that happen,” Astrid finishes firmly. “We won’t, Hiccup - we’ll keep the secret safe. And who says that we can’t sneak in a quick flight here and there, so long as we’re careful?”
Hiccup smiles now, looking at her with an expression of adoration. “When you put it like that, milady... There’s something else too,” He admits before she can lean in to kiss him, and his expression is now somewhat sheepish. “I was thinking on the boat, and...I’m happy, Astrid. So unbelievably happy.”
“Yeah?” She grins. “I am too.”
“I miss the dragons,” He continues. “But I wouldn’t trade this for anything; you, the kids... I’m happy with it all.” There’s more to come, she can tell. “While we were heading home, I thought about the kids, about our family, and I guess...what I’m trying to say is that maybe...if you’re okay with it...”
“Hiccup.”
“I kinda want another baby.”
Astrid is positively floored by this. “You what?”
Hiccup has gone slightly pink-cheeked underneath his beard, and he seems to backtrack under her incredulous facial expression. “I know, I know, it’s stupid, I just thought...we’re so happy, we love the kids - Gods, I love them more than anything, Astrid - so I thought that, you know... If we were going to have another baby, now is a good time.”
“Babe-”
“Yeah, I’m being stupid,” Hiccup laughs self-deprecatingly, clearly embarrassed. “I know you probably don’t want another baby, especially given how difficult it was with Nuffink, and I don’t know if I’d want to risk losing you like that again.” His voice nearly breaks. “Gods, what am I thinking? Of course I don’t want to risk it again! And Zephy and Nuff, they’re so wonderful and I love them, and I don’t want you thinking that I don’t-”
“Hiccup!” Astrid interrupts exasperatedly; he falls silent immediately. “You don’t think I’d want another baby?”
“Well...no. Like I said, it’s not easy and I know it wasn’t fun even with Zeph, and with Nuffink...well, you get the idea.” He sighed, shaking his head. “Like I said, it’s just a stupid idea I was thinking about - I’m sorry for bringing it up.”
She puts her hands on her hips, giving him a look. “Is this because Toothless has three hatchlings? Because if it is, I swear to Thor, Hiccup...”
“No, no, it’s nothing to do with that,” he insists hurriedly. “To tell you the truth, I was thinking about it before we left, but then we had to prepare for the trip and...I guess I just never found the perfect time to say it. Like I said, it’s dumb, and I’m not about to force you into it since it’s you who’d do all the hard work - and you’ve done more than enough of it already.”
“Hiccup...”
“Don’t think I’m not grateful,” Hiccup continues, now turning to her and taking her hands in his own. “I am unbelievably so - you’ve not only been by my side through everything, but you gave me two beautiful children,” He smiles now, and she can see the love in his face. “Gods, I love them so much, Astrid - I feel blessed and beyond grateful that you brought them into the world. The three of you are the most important people in the world to me, so thank you.“
Astrid isn’t sure whether to laugh or cry at his proclamation - he has a habit of making her feel like that. “Gods dammit,” She mutters under her breath.
“I don’t need another baby to feel complete - like I said, just another one of my not so brilliant ideas. I just thought I’d mention it, just in case.” He looks sheepish again. “You know what? Forget I said anything, I’m being-”
“I’m pregnant.”
Well, that shuts him up. Hiccup’s mouth nearly falls open, his eyes wide as he stares at her. “You’re...”
“Pregnant,” Astrid repeats, giving him a small grin. “I kinda suspected before we left, so I saw Gothi this afternoon just after we got back. I didn’t know if you’d feel...I dunno, overwhelmed or something.”
For a moment, Hiccup is still too gobsmacked to speak - but then it dawns on him fully, and he’s grinning and tearing up as he pulls her towards him, kissing her eagerly. “You” he breathes between kisses. “are something else, you know that, Astrid?”
She smirks against his mouth. “Of course. I’m glad you’re happy, babe.”
Oh, he’s happy alright - so happy that he doesn’t waste time bringing her to their bed to show her just how much he loves her.
(I have another idea about the whole Hiccstrid third baby concept after THW but I can’t decide which I like best)
i’m in shock right now, i can’t believe he’s gone. such a kind young man and bright star. please be kind and respectful to cameron’s family and friends (including any and all castmates). rest in peace, freckled angel.

Hey. Hey there, bud. Remember me? It’s okay. Hey, I am glad to see you too, bud! He’s not gonna eat your father. How’s the tail holding up? Probably could use some oil and a little fine tuning? Look, it’s okay. They’re friends.
