Httyd : Homecoming is so excruciating to watch like ik it's a short holiday special movie and isn't that serious (yes it is) but the mischaracterization goes craaaazzzyyyyyyy
1) Wasn't one of the measure points of the hidden world that Hiccup (& the other riders as well but let's talk about Hiccup) is too reliant on toothless and quote "needs to realise that he isn't nothing without toothless". So why is it that after Berk parts ways with the dragons, people automatically forget all that Hiccup had done for the village and go back to treating him like he's gullible? Gobber, i love you but what was the point of painting Stoick as this great advocator of peace b/w Vikings and dragons and showing Hiccup as a coward when he literally pulled up with a night fury in front of the entire village? He changed Berk for the better. He ended the war b/w dragons and Vikings and showed a new way of living life to them (he's so under appreciated for that too). Like ik the whole point was to show the kids that dragons weren't evil but I still think that erasing hiccup's legacy is idiotic. I think after all that he's done for the village he deserved to be respected as the Dragon master and not be painted as a coward.
2) Not everything is supposed to be a comedic element. I feel like even in the first movie Hiccup's insecurities are often reflected through humour which is okay but i believe out of everyone Gobber was one of the few people who saw through him and wasn't so dense about his feelings. Though he did playfully mock him, he ALWAYS spoke up for Hiccup. He would never disregard hiccup's achievements even if he wanted to incorporate Stoick in the pageant.
3) Zephyr being afraid of dragons. First of all it is so beautifully ironic that the kids of the dragon master himself never got to ride dragons (i like to believe at some point the kids venture on their own adventures and do stumble across old enemies and dragons somehow but we're sticking to canon here 😭)
Second of all. There is NO WAY Hiccup or Astrid. Especially Hiccup would ever neglect teaching zephyr and nuffink the history of Vikings and dragons. If not them I feel like Fishlegs himself would never shut up about it, you best believe the kids would be tired of hearing about it all the time (headcanon that fishlegs after thw took up on teaching berk kids about the history of berk... throwback to rtte lol Also the riders share a custody of ALL of their children because I said so 😌) It is simply unbelievable how Astrid or Hiccup never showed them the book of dragons and told them all about their dragons, you expect me to believe they said "dragons have always been our friends" and call it a day?
So yea i feel like there were so many routes that could've been taken after the hidden world but this being the said route (Alongside 9realms) is such a assassination of their own story
