Post Mission Blues || Bucky & Skye || 1/5/15
Bucky grinned appreciatively as she pulled out the baking tray, leaving the balance in the cupboard unchanged. Â âScore one to you.â Â He commented with a chuckle, leaning back against the cupboards, mug of coffee in one hand,, relaxed in the warmth and easy companionship in the kitchen. Â
The talk of the mission that Skye was going to go out on was one that made him shake his head slightly in amusement.  âYâknow, I do sometimes wonder what the hell it says about the kinda lives that we lead that Iâm not even surprised anymore when there are things like unrecognised languages in ancient temples, alien dogs and fuck knows what elseâŠâ Â
At her comment about the cookie cutters he couldnât help leaning forward slightly to look at them all as she began cutting out the shapes.  âCanât believe theyâve made cookie cutters of us allâŠweird damn world we live in.â Â
He nodded.  âYeah, you do need to meet Nat, and she wants to meet you.  Iâve told her about youâŠguess itâs just a pain in the ass that you two are always missinâ each other.â  He couldnât help the slight smile he got as he thought about Natasha.  âGotta admit she amazes me on a regular basis, but then sheâd just tell me Iâm biased.â  He knew damn well that Natasha would like Skye, would appreciate her, the fire in her. Â
Skye smiled before shaking her head. âMy life has always been weird. I have no idea about my past, I have been kicked around foster home to foster home, and I finally landed in SHIELD. I feel like I didnât really live until I worked with SHIELD.â Putting the cookies into the oven, she moved to sit on the counter across from Bucky. Swallowing the last bit of her coffee, she put it down beside her and smiled.
âI can. I mean, have you seen you guys in action? Itâs amazing. I think the world is disappointed that SHIELD has sort of scattered. They have no idea the power we have though. Itâs not like weâre really gone.â She picked up the one shaped like Bucky, then the one shaped like Nat and gave a devilish grin. Tossing them over to him, she crossed her legs and laughed softly. âSo, you and Nat want your cookie cutter counterparts?â
Watching the grin on his face, she rolled her eyes. âYouâve gotta be the cutest assassin in the world. Natasha must feel like sheâs been spoiled rotten to have you, Bucky. Youâre head over heels.â It was nice to see, and Skye felt good, knowing that they had one another. It was an important facet to who he was as a person, at least the Bucky she knew.
Bucky nodded. Â âTrue, you havenât had it easy, doll.â Â And he knew that her past hadnât been easy, knew what it was like not to really know where you came from and who you were. Â It wasnât a comfortable feeling. Â He watched as Skye sat on the opposite counter, finishing her coffee, noting the way that she was relaxed and at home in his and Natâs apartment, glad that someone else could be that way around them. Â
He hitched one shoulder in a shrug. Â âI guess. Â We just do what we were made to yâknow? Â But I get your point. Â I think though, that actually itâs better in many ways that people donât realise the power that SHIELD still has. Â Personally I think that itâs better if itâs more underground, if there is that potential for plausible deniability. Â It gives more options when it comes to strange shit that needs dealing with, gives more room to manoeuvre when it comes to dealing with threats if you arenât a publicly acknowledged institution.â Â He thought back to the Red Room, to Hydra, to the way that they moved in the shadows, the way that their powers could be so much further reaching than anybody realised. Â He paused for a second then looked at Skye. Â âBut on the other hand, that does mean that there is more potential for things to become warped, for ideologies to fall by the wayside and things to become exactly what they began fighting against.â Â
He shook his head as though ridding himself of the thoughts of SHIELD and caught the cutters that she tossed to him glancing at the cookie cutter counterparts with a grin. Â âSure. Â Why the hell not...I donât have a problem with eating Nat...â Â He smirked and looked at her for a second before looking back at the oven where the cookies were baking, the aroma beginning to fill the kitchen. Â They were slowly turning a beautiful golden brown and they smelled incredible. Â
Skyeâs comment made him laugh and stare at her. âCute?â  He shook his head.  âThatâs a new one on me.  Fuck...â  He laughed again as he thought about it, about being described that way, something that seemed so incongruous, but definitely amusing.  âI donât know.  Sheâs got a lot to put up with being with me.  Iâm lucky to have her and I know it.  But yeah, Iâll definitely admit to beinâ head over heels with her.  Sheâs something else thatâs for sure.â Â
