i need y'all to understand how important a character lucy heartfilia is to me okay. like, she's pretty, she's smart, she grew up without any friends, she struggled with her family, and fought to make her place in the world. lucy is The character, okay?
let me tell you, in 2012, at the Height of the "not like other girls" era, lucy told me that it was okay to be pretty and smart and love the colour pink. she was shy and brave and unapologetically herself. she's who i project onto and who i want to be all at the same time.
she's strong, not because she just is but because she worked hard to go from newbie to a reliable member of the team. she's kind, despite all the cruelty the world has thrown at her. she's self reliant but not afraid to trust people and welcome them in. she's mean and sarcastic and snide. she's shy and optimistic and painfully naive about the world. she's got a thirst for knowledge and a never ending sense of curiosity.
she feels real. and i cannot express enough how unique she is, not just in the world of shounen but as a character in general. where women are expected to be perfect over and over again, lucy was allowed to fail and then grow. she is everything to me.
