can we normalise that natsu's always been smart and lucid about relationships? any kind of relationship? i mean, since he joined fairy tail, and even with igneel, he's been surrounded by people who have strong feelings, express them loudly and love each other.

in toh and galuna arcs, he protected erza and gray and he knew how strong their bonds with jellal/lyon was, and that it could lead them to take stupid decision. he understood the stakes of their relationships, he knew it was more complex than just beating some random enemy. he is not blind.

my point here is, he definitely knows about romantic relationships. damn it stop saying he's clueless, he is NOT. he was particularly resenting jellal also because he knew he broke erza's heart. he gets people's feelings and when he's touched by someone's words, he can go embarrassed/silent. that's what happens with lucy when she thanks him for catching her when she jumped from a tower, when she tells him she wants to fight by his side at tenrou, and also when she reproaches him to have left after the guild's dissolution. surprise, natsu is more of a normal human than what he looks like.

still during the avatar arc, he goes finding gray FOR juvia before himself, because he knows how much she loves him and he noticed that gray wasn't indifferent about her feelings. he is touched by juvia's heartbreak.

also, he's 100% aware of zeref and mavis' history and how it impacts mavis' decisions at the end of alvarez, like coming back to zeref even though he's clearly about to steal her power. at the end of his fight, he lets mavis and zeref alone because he knows they share something special and have to say their goodbyes to each other.

natsu is very sensitive to all of this, and i can't accept when people or the 100yq spin-off portray him as super dumb in love. of course he misses subtleties and doesn't get all innuendos. but that doesn't make him stupid. tbh, before the 100yq released, i was convinced that natsu understood lucy's feelings at the end and just wanted to keep things simple, because that's what he does the best.

Also adding that I think it makes sense for the fandom to create content where he's mainly clueless about romance, as it's the only way to pick up from where we're at with canon while justifying the hyq's horrible character decisions. If ppl (me) wanna write a fanfic based on all of the canon content out there, there's no amount of justification in the world that can make up for Natsu's odd behaviour in the hyq - unless we make him clueless that is. The only alternative is that there's a whole SEPARATE plotline that makes sense out of his hyq behaviours (brain tumour making him act out of pocket) OR he's clueless and content with life and just enjoys the ride. A bit moronic. Battle smart, emotionally dumb.

Or you could do like I do most of the time: disregard the canon material I don't like and then utilise the emotional intelligence I KNOW that man has but is hiding as some defense mechanism. Best of both worlds!

I have wanted to draw these for so long! Finally, I managed to finish it. Tokkias write so many, and mean like many, many one shots for Nalu, and it's so hard to choose! I love all of her one shots so much ♥️💞💖, and it is one of my many choices to reread if I need some cute stuff🥰. the cliche 2012 era ff.net "lucy gets kicked out of team natsu" fics are hilarious for a lot of reasons but mostly because. lucy couldn't get rid of those mfs if she tried. they're in her house. they're following her on jobs that pay like a 100 jewels. they thought she left them and freaked the fuck out and followed her across the country. they basically imprinted on her like 3 annoying, highly destructive baby ducklings. be serious.
