So, I saw another blog talking about Taylor's new added ear holes. Looks like she has several new piercings in each ear. Just wondering if you had noticed this and what your take is. You can see that she's wearing additional earrings in some of the pictures from last night's show.

Looks like she did get a few over break! I love that for her! I don’t really have a take, maybe she wanted a little change up and it looks good on her! And it’s fitting 😉

The concept itself implies a feminine figure, someone that gave Taylor inspiration for her past albums since 2014. folklore is just further proof that certain terms, memories, and concepts are closer to the female world than anyone can think. Taylor can't get enough of her muse, through thick and thin, just like she holds on to songwriting, which is a way to express her genius self, her imagination, but also her undying love for her beloved.

This love has been secret and protected for almost 7 years and the lack of tweets and cellphones (pictures) lately doesn't mean that it's less strong and alive as before. If any, her songwriting proves that she's leading herself and her music towards a turning point. In sound, in lyrics and in approach to reality.

We just have to listen carefully to her art, because it's the only way to grasp the concept that the muse that takes her to english lakes can be a Midwestern blonde.

Tell me more about New Year’s Day

Ok, it is a long read, written half drunk (excellent Monbazillac straight outta Dorgogne) not gonna edit the train of thoughts, so here you go:

When Taylor talked about this song, she said she found the “inspiration” in new years eve parties and how the day after you stay with the one you share your life with to clean the mess and spend the day in peace, in private which is a huge contrast with the partying.Here is how I read it. This song wraps up the album. But imo, in taylor private life it describes her transition from NYE its glitter and polaroid aka the 1989 era with the social media and media overexposure, the girls squad, the friends, the parties, the outings. “you and me from the night before”: everything they lived during this phase in life that she is about to put behind her.She is scared because she doesn’t know what the reaction of the person she’s singing for would be if they get to the last page of the book she is about to close, will that person stay for the next one?This is almost the only song in which she talks about doubts coming from the other person because they are both scared. She says she wants the celebrations but she’d also stick to do life’s mundane tasks when the lights are out, and by that I think it means the beginning of her blackout phase.Verse 2 is where they start putting this plan en route, their taxi ride. It is a very interesting non verbal exchange, the other person squeezing her hand is a sign of reassurance, one that is done by someone who doesn’t need words to say what you need to hear, your long term SO, your BFF or a close family member. She replies that even if this trip is long, she is not going anywhere and will be there for the worst and for better times alike.In the post chorus and the bridge, I think she is preparing her love interest for a difficult part. A part where they will probably be physically separated from each other for longer periods than they are used to before. Thus asking the person to hold on to the memories they shared together (3 times. you can stretch and reach and say it corresponds to 3 years relationship before the blackout if you feel like it, I don’t make the rules). And then she tells her love interest that if they hold on to these memories she will hold on to them as a pair. She is not leaving, she is just retreating.She is asking them not to forget her and this relationship she is trying to keep during this new phase of life, where their separate lives would probably be less in sync than before. She knows her lover like the back of her hand and could not stand the idea of them becoming strangers.Overall, at first I did not pay attention to the depth of it I really just thought she was describing the aftermath of a party. But she is not. Wouldn’t you expect a mention of alcohol here (in Taylor’s most alcohol-drenched album)? well surprise, there is none. Because it is not describing an actual party, but her transition from the 1989 to the Rep era and wanting her partner to cross that bridge with her. Some sort of “through thick-and-thin promise” in a form of a soft ballad. It also strikes me as a narrative of a long term relationship where two people are settled in a certain lifestyle and they are about to make a drastic change due to what life throws at them and they are maybe hesitantly walking to their destination but holding hands firmly.So that’s my meta-analysis and very liberally done interpretation of this song. It was a head-scratcher for me, she wrote it and recorded it quite fast and felt that THIS is the song that should wrap up an album she called reputation with and that she is releasing after she completely turned her public life around. And this is how it made sense to me.

Hey, I was just wondering who This Love is about? Karlie or Dianna? I always thought it was Dianna because of the line "I watched you leave". Also, it seems (so far if the album doesn't live up to its standard) that Dianna would have gotten a better album. And better songs. Even if they're not all positive

Finally the anon I was waiting for.

First of all Dianna isn’t just in 1989, Red is full of swiftgron (happy and sad, pretty much everything). 1989 is more the aftermath. Wonderland and Clean are just a work of art and, dear Lord, I’d love to hear lyrics like those on rep (I mean the way, not the object).

As for This Love, it has been a song that I had to listen to for few times, over and over. It’s a song full of metaphores and figurative lyrics, well-put with the melody. You start listening to it and you’re imagining being on a balcony or walking on the beach at night. It’s gloomy, lonely and makes you think about anything. The way she describes love, and the feeling of it, with those images is astonishing.

First it came like an high tide, and it seemed to last somehow, then it went away with the low tide, which brought a storm and new loneliness. She would’ve never predicted the feeling of being alone again or feel like this, not even in her “wildest dreams”

The reference to Clean, and those “silent screams” say how hurt she was and still didn’t figure out a way to feel better, she screams but no one can listen. The past relationship affected her so much that even if she’s sharing a bed or she’s getting to know someone else, it’s early and she feels the weight of the past. The spark was soft, there’s no more fireworks but something was still there, even if the person wasn’t.

This is the second verse, which, in my opinion, is where the song has a twist. The perspective is turned and something happens. Someone else shows up, and I’m sure that the secret message “timing is a funny thing” refers to this. She was losing hope, and right when she thought she wasn’t going to have that feeling back, this person gives her a hand.

The prechorus has “permanent mark” as for you can’t forget your past, even if you’re in a new relationship. You don’t forget, but you grow with it, you have the scars but they don’t make you weak, they make you wiser and then stronger.

Your kiss, my cheek, I watched you leaveYour smile, my ghost, I fell to my kneesWhen you’re young you just runBut you come back to what you need.

This Love is a cyclical song, it describes first the feeling of being left, then of finding someone new, or feeling better, but it returns to be alone. That’s why she describes the feeling itself as “good” and “bad”, and why se emphasizes the need to let it go free to have it back unexpectedly. There’s no need to run for miles or go to another country, if it’s meant to happen then it can be anywhere, at any time.

So, my conclusion is this, the song is obviously a hint at her past relationship with Dianna and how much it changed her, but also about Karlie and how she got the chance to feel it again. It’s more generic but if we want to point out which one of her lovers is, I’d say it’s halfway. End of one - beginning of the other. Cyclical, like a natural phenomenon.
