Art 6/22/26
I've started a "new" painting. This is a street scene that's in Swansboro, NC. I actually did this painting a few years ago, but I lent it to someone and never got it back because they "lost it". So I'm doing it again, but this time it's mine to keep. The plain is to keep it until the 2028 BOA National Juried Exhibition comes around, and I'll enter it in that. Then, on the off chance the piece gets in, I'll either make it not for sale or half a million dollars.
Because of its size, the limited time I have to work on it, and the fact that I hate the drawing part of a painting, I'm still in the drawing phase. But even at this stage, I've noticed some differences between this one and the one I did in '24. This new one has more emphasis on the architecture, and how it's rough: the building on the right is crooked, the house in the background is more defined, and you can see the line for the parking space (not in these pics, sorry). I think this might show how my interest has changed these past few years. I'm now more interested in the realness of street scenes, maybe? Or I'm really starting to turn away from the Pretty Nature thing that I grew up with- where my parents always did plein air nature painting, and so I thought that's what you had to do as an artist, no matter how boring the subject is. In any case, this has been an interesting project so far, and it will probably continue being that way when I start adding color. I recommend to any artist to re-do one of your pieces from a few years ago, just to see how your style and interest has changed.
