Working through Beleg’s features and hair. I’ve always been drawn to his story with Túrin.
Morwen Eledhwen
Morwen was dark-haired and tall, and for the light of her glance and the beauty of her face men called her Eledhwen, the elven-fair; but she was somewhat stern of mood and proud.
— The Children of Húrin, J.R.R. Tolkien
“I'm back.”
“You are back.”
Helm’s Deep — Aragorn’s return
Gimli’s joy and Legolas’s silent relief.
Beleg Cúthalion
“…and that grief was graven on the face of Túrin and never faded.”
— The Children of Húrin, J.R.R. Tolkien
Drawn while thinking about what he had lost. What did he lose in Beleg?
‘Indeed I begin to think that Elves and Men should not meet or meddle.’
Túrin said nothing, but looked long in Beleg’s face, as if he would read in it the riddle of his words.
Nellas of Doriath never saw him again, and his shadow passed from her.
— The Children of Húrin, J.R.R. Tolkien
“Túrin and Beleg: Their Days in Doriath”
I wanted to capture their gentle moment, but once it was finished, remembering how their story ends made the whole scene ache a little.
WIP – Young Túrin and Beleg (archery training).
Still deciding whether to give Túrin wavy or straight hair, and whether Beleg’s hair should be in a single braid or left loose.
At the end of the Hobbit films, Thranduil tells Legolas to “Go north, Find the Dúnedain. There’s a young Ranger amongst them, you should meet him.” so I imagined what that first encounter with young Aragorn might have looked like.
—
Following whispers of the Dúnedain, he steps into a tavern far rougher than any place an elven prince should be.
Oh wow your art is absolutely incredible!! So soft and deep and beautiful :D
Thank you so much for your kind words.
I’m really glad the atmosphere of the piece reached you.
