ok so recent events with harry have got me thinking. I’ve actually had these thoughts and opinions for a very long time, but as we all know, stan culture can be very toxic. I think we all need to get away from this notion that just because of you’re a fan of someone, you cant call them out on their wrong-doings and you can’t ever disagree with them. I think blindly standing by someone in everything they do can be very dangerous and it sends the wrong message. that being said, I was scrolling through @littledreamybeth blog and I saw the same opinions that I’ve had for a while but have been too afraid to share because I didn’t want people to come for me…but at this point, I don’t care. harrys right: teenage girls do have a bs detector. so naturally, as a teenage girl, I’m gonna call him on his bs. and some of yall are bout to be mad fo real fo real. but hey…be mad about it
1. I didn’t like Harry’s rolling stone interview. some bits I enjoyed, (the parts about BLM and women’s rights -ill get to that too- and the part at the end with his mom) but overall to me it just seemed forced. now, I don’t know if the interview was scripted or what but it seemed very much like he was trying to portray this iconic legendary rockstar image, like a Jagger or a Mercury, but it just missed the mark. it sounded very forced and something about it came off as pretentious? For example, the whole shrooms thing…something about it seemed very off. it was as if he was saying he couldn’t write well or be iconic on his own…so he used drugs. I have less of a problem with the fact that he wrote and recorded the album high, and more of a problem with the fact that it seemed like he didn’t believe in his own talent. at least that’s how I came off to me. now I’ve said this before: it’s easy to say “he’s trying to be someone he’s not” when we really don’t know him personally. but I genuinely feel that the image he was trying to portray in the interview isn’t who he is or wants to be…it seemed very manufactured.
2. speaking of being manufactured…ive tried to ignore how I feel about this next point for a very long time. harrys “non-usage” of social media really irritates me for a multitude of reasons. firstly..it would be one thing if he didn’t use social media AT ALL. and for a while, I think that’s what we all thought. but we all saw that he accidentally posted (and then almost immediately took down) something on his insta story that was clearly meant for his finsta or close friends story. now it wasn’t anything too personal or scandalous…it was literally a picture of the T-shirt he was wearing. but to me, this whole notion of “I like to be private” has really gotten out of hand lol. it makes me feel like he only wants to interact with us when he wants us to buy something or vote for him or something of that nature. no one is asking to get on Instagram live and read his diary. but popping in to say hey or interacting with his fans makes us feel like he actually cares to have a relationship with us when hes not touring or trying to sell something. now I totally get that he needs downtime, and I can even understand wanting to be private. nor do I feel entitled to everything about him. but when he drops off the face of the earth, doesn’t interact with us FOR LITERAL MONTHS, and then only pops back up when his album goes on sale…it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. it makes me feel like he’s taking advantage of the people he knows will support him regardless of anything. that’s a real slap in the face and I don’t even think people realize that how he’s been treating us. we would love to see silly mundane shit from him because it makes us feel closer to him. id rather know what T-shirt he was wearing or what he eats for breakfast rather than a manufactured breakup narrative on an album that sounds like its gonna be a lot like the first one.
3. I really don’t wanna call harry “fake woke” because I really genuinely don’t think he is. I think this part of his rs interview was one of the only parts where we got to see the true harry. However…his dating history makes me question. now I want to make clear that I realize that I don’t know harry or any of his “ex-girlfriends” personally. I only know what’s on the internet, which we all know can be skewed and often isn’t the whole story. I also realize that Harry’s relationships aren’t any of our business. but for such a private person, his relationships always end up being shoved down our throats. so in turn, it does become our business. harrys girlfriends have been…less than favorable in my opinion. from Taylor Swift and her white feminism to Kendall Jenner and her racist family to Camille Rowe and her trolling and overall attention-seeking antics. all that just makes me wonder Harry’s opinion because there could be one of 3 things happening behind the scenes: either we don’t have the full story, Harry doesn’t see the issues, or he just doesn’t care. at least with kj, I find it hard to believe that he doesn’t see the issue or we don’t have a full store cause we can go and watch any episode of the tv show and see she and her family are racist as hell. so that makes me wonder…does he not care? it’s easy to preach one thing to the public and then don’t live by those same values behind closed doors. I fully believe that while no, someone is not responsible for the actions of their friends or partners, they are the reflection of them. so no, harry is not responsible for anyone actions besides his own. but it says a lot that he seems to be ok with some of the disgusting actions of his past partners (im looking at Kendall and Camille in particular) and that’s a reflection on him.
4. my other issue is that he claims everyone is beautiful and equal. but we ALL KNOW Harry doesn’t even entertain the thought of dating someone who doesn’t fit the profile of a tall, skinny, white girl (preferably a model) with seemingly no other personality trait besides being problematic in some way. obviously, I understand that we all have preferences and even “types” but when you seem to close off yourself to so many other types of people to one VERY SPECIFIC type…it makes me wonder about you…especially when you preach about feminism but then essentially say “no other type of woman is worthy of my attention.” and this doesn’t just go for harry.. I see regular degular shmegular men and boys do this exact same thing all the time and it’s fucking hypocritical and it needs to stop. I’m not saying he needs to date certain types of people just for the image of it…that’s not ok either. im just saying…i think he needs to look in the mirror.
so yea those are my thoughts..some of yall are really bout to be mad but I don’t care. I don’t think Harrys a bad guy or is fake woke or is a terrible person. I just think his public image needs fixing (starting with new management but that’s a rant for another day). as a fan who knows a lot of things the general public doesnt know about harry, I can see all the conflicting narratives and ideas and im tired yall. but again, I dont know harry. this is all bases on that I’m being fed. will I still remain a fan? idk probably…depending on this next album and everything that’s gonna come with it. I’m just at the age now where I can see through the bull shit and have no problem calling it out. in a nutshell, harrys trying so hard to be an enigma and this iconic rockstar and the more time passes, the more it just looks forced, manufactured and pretentious. you can agree or disagree, you can support my opinion or send me hate… I don’t care.
