DOLORES UMBRIDGE.

“I find all this timeline stuff fascinating you know.” If by fascinating, one meant an awful headache, nerve-wracking, and an unforgivable break in the set plan of life that introduced far too many variables. “It’s like first year meeting everyone all over again…or like walking into my first day at the Ministry. Not to brag, but I had an internship at the Ministry this summer. It was absolutely illuminating.” She let herself preen a moment before returning to feigning absolute interest in the person she was talking to. “Tell me about yourself. I’ll stop you if I’ve heard it before,” she urged. She’d stop them either way once she found out enough, but that wasn’t information that needed to be shared.

                                     if  there  was  one  thing  hestia  despised  more  than  anything    ,    it  was  talking  about  herself  to  another  person.  it  wasn’t  out  of  modesty    ,    or  her  wanting  to  appear  humble    ,    it  was  vulnerability  that  she  detested  so  much.    ❛    as  far  as  i’m  aware    ,    nothing  has  changed  for  me.  i’m  still  just  the  same  hestia  jones.  pretty  boring    ,    actually.    ❜    her  story  wasn’t  boring  though    ,    quite  the  opposite.  the  retelling  was  emotionally  exhausting  for  her    ,    though    ,    &  she  wasn’t  fond  of  going  through  the  retelling  once  more.    ❛    what  about  yourself    ?    any  drastic  changes  you’ve  had  to  deal  with    ?    ❜

ATLAS FORTESCUE.

the grin faulters for a second and then it returns, ‘ how do you think they’re dealing with that ? do they just have extra prefects running around - are there potentially three head boys? there’s an idea, give us more guidance and triple the quidditch teams.”

                                       ❛    it’s  difficult  to  say.  there’s  no  precedent  for  this  sort  of  thing    ,    &  besides    ,    they  can’t  really  give  away  any  of  the  student  roles.  even  if  they  were  those  roles  in  another  timeline.    ❜    she  couldn’t  deny  how  amused  she  was  at  the  thought    ,    so  many  students  running  around  trying  to  win  their  previous  titles  back.    ❛    it  would  certainly  make  the  next  few  days  a  bit  more  interesting    ,    though.    ❜

JASMINE ROSIER.

She nods as she runs a hand through her hair. “I think you’re a bit too late on that,” she murmurs as she locks eyes with Hestia. Her voice mild, polite and a little bored as though she were discussing the weather. “Like Pandora’s box, some things once begun are irreversible.”

                                      it  caught  her  by  surprise    ,    how  the  blonde’s  pessimism  about  the  situation  rivaled  hestia’s.  she  didn’t  necessarily  disagree    ,    things  were  certainly  bleak.  inside  the  ravenclaw  there was  still  a  flame    ,    small  &  flickering    ,    but  still  as  present  as  ever.  she  couldn’t  simply  stand  aside  &  let  the  world  crumble  if  she  could  help  it.    ❛    you  almost  sound  as  if  you  don’t  care  if  it  did  end.  there  is  always  something  that  could  be  done    ,    as  long  as  there  are  still  people  willing  to  fight  for  it.  even  if  it  is  just  one  person.    ❜

ESTER CAMPBELL.

“It’s funny, it’s like the weather doesn’t know how crazy things have been,” Ester said staring out in the field and feeling the still warm air on her skin. “What do you remember? I keep being afraid to ask people, but I guess I’m just curious.”

                                       she  remembered  PAIN    ,    &  loss    ,    quite  vividly  too.  she  remembered  her  mother’s  letter  from  last  year    ,    &  all  the  things  she  did  to  try  &  forget  it.  she  couldn’t  forget  though    ,    no  matter  how  hard  she  did  try.    ❛    i’m  not  sure  what  to  tell  you    ,    from  all  that  i  understand    ,    my  memories  haven’t  changed.    it’s  everyone  else  who  is  different.    ❜

ATLAS FORTESCUE.

he sips his drink, considering the possibility of what the ministry would do. “and hey, maybe someone will fuck with them and we’ll get to watch - and laugh! if nothing else at least we’re not the poor suckers who came here and lost their prefect status. that’s gotta hurt.”

                                     she  considers  his  words    ,    &  the  idea  brings  a  smile  to  her  features.    ❛    you’ve  got  a  point    ,    there.  it  seems  like  there’s  always  a  worse  possibility.  i  have  to  say    ,    i’m  happy  that  isn’t  me    !    ❜

JASMINE ROSIER. 

“Oh, I’m not taking anything lightly. What with the changing timelines and all, it could be upon us any day. But when, is the question. When will we all react to this? Everything’s relatively calm right now.”

                                    ❛    quite  frankly    ,    i’m  more  worried  about  trying  to  prevent  the  end  of  the  world.  seems  like  a  better  use  of  my  mind.  some  of  us  haven’t  completely  given  up  on  hope  yet.    ❜

GLENDA CHITTOCK.

“Can I ask you something?,” she begins, tone still grave before a smile sneaks on her lips. Glenda Chittock dealt with tough situations in one of two ways: she either got pissed off or laughed it off. Tonight she had chosen to go with the latter. Maybe later, she would give in to her rage and fire and burn up, but for now she was set on having a good fucking time. ( Who knew — maybe it’d be the last time, as the world was apparently in shambles. ) “In a fight, who do you think would win? The whomping willow or the giant squid?” 

                                     ❛    hmmm...    ❜    hestia  pondered  the  question  for  a  moment    ,    not  sure  which  to  respond.  out  of  all  the  questions  in  the  world    ,    &  this  one  was  the  one  she  asked    ?    it  caught  the  ravenclaw  off  guard    ,    but  who  was  she  to  back  down  from  such  a  challenge    ?    ❛    it  depends.  where  exactly  would  this  be  taking  place    ?    because  if  it’s  on  land    ,    the  whomping  willow  has  the  advantage.  if  it’s  in  the  lake    ,    obviously  the  squid  has  the  advantage  there.    ❜    there  was  a  lot  to  unpack  with  such  an  idea    ,    it  was  tricky.    ❛    i’m  going  with  the  whomping  willow.  even  if  its  branches  get  wet    ,    it’s  still  got  a  lot  of  strength  behind  it.    ❜

ESTER CAMPBELL.

Ester waded out into the grasses on the Hogwarts grounds. The past 24 hours has been a hectic and overwhelming. All of the different timelines converging on the castle had given her a lot to process. Hogwarts had always been her safe place, but learning that it might not have always have been that way was a lot to take in. She looked up into the sky and breathed a sigh before sitting down in the grass. Just as she sits though she hears footsteps coming her way. 

Looking up she asks, “You need a place to come and think too?”

                                     hestia’s  mind  was  a  MESS  of  emotions    ,    but  then  again    ,    whose  weren’t    ?   initially    ,   the  idea  of  other  timelines  had  fascinated  her    ,    but  now  the  ravenclaw  felt  overwhelmed  with  everything.  as  if  this  year  wasn’t  going  to   be  hard  enough  on  her  as  it  was.  she  traveled  outside  the  castle’s  walls    ,    not  caring  about  anything  but  getting  a  breath  of  fresh  air  when  she  ran  into  the  girl.    ❛    huh    ?    oh    ,    yes.    ❜    she    spoke    timidly    ,    quietly  reminding  herself  that  she  wasn’t  the  only  one  going  through  similar  feelings.    ❛    seems  like  a  good  day  for  it.    ❜

MARLENE MCKINNON.

              marlene was perhaps the worst person to ask about the timelines  .     after all  ,     it might have been the best thing that could have have happened to her  .     she didn’t like to think of the alternative  .     when the topic was brought up  ,     she rolled her eyes .     ❛    uh-huh  ,     now do you want to keep going on about it or join me for a drink  ?      ❜     she asked  ,     gaze finally turning towards them  .     within the next ten seconds  ,     she’d finished her glass already and stood up from against the tree where she’d been sitting  ,     well on her way for a refill  .     she offered a tongue in teeth grin  .     ❛       or you know  ,     you can do both  ,     as long as i can get another drink  .     ❜

                                     hestia  paused     ——     she  hadn’t  considered  that  the  other  might  not  have  been  as  interested  as  she  was    ,    although  she  couldn’t  understand  why.  shouldn’t  everyone   ?    because  it  did  effect  everyone.      ❛    alright  ,  i  get  it  ,  i  might  have  babbled  a  bit  much  there.    ❜      a  common  practice  for  the  ravenclaw   ,    once  she  got  to  speaking  about  something  that  she  was  either  passionate  about   ,    or  fascinated   by.    ❛    drinks  sound  good    ,    i  could  definitely  go  for  another  one.    ❜

NARCISSA BLACK.

          ❛        you know  .     ❜      the blonde complained  ,     breath slipping from glossy lips in a semblance of a sigh  .     one narcissa black was beyond annoyed  (  or  ,     at very least  ,     as far as one could tell  )  .     there was few who really and truly know her  ,  especially here  ,     and she never had been one to show true emotion to those outside of her inner circle  .        ❛        if it weren’t for recent … let’s call them changes ,     my only issue would have been deciding how to do my hair for the first day of classes ,     and which jewels i should wear .     instead  ,     we’ve been left to fight a war  .     how positively charming  .     ❜      narcissa was  ,     if nothing else  ,     known for her vanity  .     it was part true narcissism and part defence mechanism  . 

                                     hestia   wasn’t  sure  what  to  make  of  the  blonde’s  statement.  on  the  one  hand    ,    she  could  understand  her  annoyance    ,    even  sympathize  with  it.  on  the  other    ,    it  seemed  so...  so  vain    ,    as  if  looks  were  of  any  importance.    ❛    yeah      ,    well  it’s  not  like  there’s  anything  we  can  do  about  it  ,  but  go  to  classes  &  resume  as  normal.    ❜    although  the  words  were  hers    ,    spoken  from  her  own  lips    ,    she  detested  the  idea.  what  could  she  do    ,    though    ?    a  mere  sixth  year    ?

ATLAS FORTESCUE.

                      he fidgeted, trying to keep from reaching out to comfort her - he hadn’t meant to upset the other, and now he regretted even asking. atlas sighed instead, hand twisting in one itself in an attempt to release a bit of nervous energy. ‘ yeah, you’re right. can’t change it, so i guess we should just leave it be. except you know, i think the ministry will probably be trying to fix it.’

                                   she  knows  she’s  made  the  conversation  slightly  awkward  ,  it’s  what  hestia  jones  always  does  best.  she  gave  him  a  small  smile  ,  reassuring  him  that  she  wasn’t  going  to  start  crying  on  him.  at  least  ,  not  until  a  few  more  drinks.  ❛  yeah  ,  the  ministry  is  going  to  be  working  day  &  night  until  the  problem  is  solved.  in  the  meantime  ,  i  say  we  try  &  enjoy  ourselves  the  best  we  can.  ❜

CASSIA PARKINSON.

“do you really think that’s possible? him actually being interesting?” although cassia was in slug club and did well enough in potions, there wasn’t any denying the professor had a habit of making her feel drowsier than usual. “you know, in my timeline i had my first prophecy in his class. at least, i think it was potions — admittedly i’m still…” waving the hand that wasn’t holding her cup around airily, she nonchalantly shrugged. “fuzzy about the whole incident. don’t you just love an involuntary recitation that you can’t even remember?” maybe it was the same in other timelines, but a small part of her hoped that things were different. “that was, uh… rhetorical, by the way.” she shook her head before taking another drink, finally emptying the cup. “you want another drink?”

                               blue  hues  gazed  towards  the  drink  in  her  hand  ,  now  empty  ,  which  she  hadn’t  even  realized.  ❛  oh  ,  yes  !  might  as  well  have  another  one  !  ❜  she  reached  out  in  front  of  her  ,  handing  her  the  cup.  ❛  about  what  you  said  ,  though  ,  rhetorical  or  not  ,  i  think  i  know  what  you  mean.  i  get  those  too  ,  on  occasion.  the  involuntary  recitation  ,  that  is.  not  the  prophecy  bit.  ❜  that  much  was  obvious  ,  hestia  was  sure.    ❛   mind  if  i  go  along  with  you  for  the  drinks  ,  though  ?  it’s  a  bit  crowded  ,  &  the  forbidden  forest  is  a  bit  close  for  comfort  this  time  of  night.  ❜  although  there  has  never  been  any  reports  of  the  creatures  coming  onto  school  ground  that  she  was  ever  aware  of  ,  her slightly   intoxicated  mind  was  wild  with  imagination  for  the  worst  that  could  happen.

DORCAS MEADOWES.

     So, she was trying to get her grades back up – that was good. “That’s really good, if you ever need any study tips or anyone to go over notes with I’d do so in a heartbeat. I’ll even let you see my notes from later year, if you’d like.” Dorcas remembered seeing the difference in Hestia after her brother’s death – something she could relate to. Her coping was different, everyone coped in their own way, Dorcas knew that much. “ I know a party might be one big accident waiting to happen but it doesn’t mean it has to be – I’ve thrown PLENTY of parties where the accidents are minimal, though the location was a lot safer than where we are now, that’s for certain.”

                                 ❛  thank  you  ,  i  appreciate  that.  ❜  &  she  did  ,  really  ,  even  if  her  expression  betrayed  her  feelings.  it  was  difficult  for  the  younger  ravenclaw  to  display  any  real  emotion  ,  try  as  she  might.  &  she  was  ,  trying  ,  as  much  as  she  could.  ❛  well  ,  the  next  time  there’s  any  mention  of  another  party  ,  i’ll  be  sure  to  throw  your  name  into  the  planning  of  it  all.  that  way  there’s  minimal  accidents.  ❜  she  knew  no  such  thing  could  ever  exist  ,  especially  with  teenagers.

                     ‘ definitely. ’ it feels weird to have to say that this new life is better - because really how could atlas ever guarantee that? suffering could just be around the corner, it was entirely possible unfortunately. ‘ do you ever just want to forget everything even if means that you’re a totally different person? ’ because atlas did - would give anything to actually be the version of himself that he was currently masquerading as.

                                 the  question  hit  too  close  to  home  for  hestia.  it  was  one  that  she  pondered  constantly.  ❛  yes.  ❜  she  replied  meekly  ,  her  voice  nearly  breaking  ,  although  she  tried  to  maintain  her  composure.  ❛  if  i  could  go  back  before  everything  awful  ,  &  go  back  to  being  the  person  i  was  ,  i’d  do  it  in  a  heartbeat.  but...  i  can’t.  &  neither  can  you.  it’s  best  not  to  think  too  much  about  the  what  ifs  &  focus  on  right  now.  ❜

              “  I  happen  to  find  this  turnout  oddly  touching.  it’s  a  nice  reminder  that  sometimes,  things  just  don’t  change.  “   he grinned,  a  wry  lift  to  his  eyebrows  ramping  up  the  pause  before  he  tilted  his  head  in  concession.   “  some  things  being  how  it’s  always  a  great  idea  to  use  alcohol  as  a  means  of  moving  on. “  nate’s  grin  turned  sharp  and  teasing,  and  he  leaned  in  towards  hestia.   “  I’d  be  happy  to  talk  about  my  summer. “   nate  stood  up  straight  and  looked  off  in  the  middle  distance  over  her  shoulder,  as  if  trying  to  see  into  the  past  hidden  behind  her  hair.   “  spent  it  back  in  louisiana,  like  I  do  every  summer.  I’d  only  been  back  for  a  few  days  when all  this  happened.  honestly,  I  don’t  see  a  big  difference;  cut  out  everyone  else  changing  and  it’s  practically  normal.  “   he  cut  his  gaze  back  at  her,  a  smaller  smile  quirked  into  the  place  his  easy  grin vacated.   “  do  my  memories  match  with  yours,  hestia?  I’d  hate  to  not’ve  put  my  best  foot  forward  if  this  is  the  first  time  we’re  meeting. “  

                             ❛  well  ,  that’s  certainly  a  positive  attitude  you’ve  got  going  there.  ❜  hestia  spoke  ,  the  smallest  hint  of  a  smile  creeping  on  to  her  features  ,  though  she  hid  that  fact  well  behind  her  drink.  ❛  america  ,  eh  ?  sounds  nice.  ❜  much  nicer  than  being  locked  up  in  her  house  ,  with  her  mother  practically  breathing  down  her  neck.  she  was  almost  jealous  for  a  moment  there.  ❛  mine  felt  about  the  same  ,  same  ol’  usual  stuff.  well  ,  except  for  the  obvious.  ❜  memoires  of  that  day  flooded  back  to  her  instantly  ,  her  mother  rushing  in  a  panicked  state  ,  unsure  what  was  happening.  it  was  rare  for  helen  jones  to  be  such  a  mess  ,  &  hestia  had  only  ever  seen  her  mother  in  such  a  state  one  other  time.  her  attention  shifted  back  to  nate  ,  the  sound  of  his  voice  breaking  her  away  from  her  current  thoughts.  ❛  oh  !  well  ,  i’m  not  sure  how  well  they  match  up  ?  i  know  we’re  on  friendly  terms  so  this  isn’t  our  first  meeting.  what  all  do  you  remember  ?  ❜
