Looking at how we managed images across multiple projects at The Appraisal Lane, we saw there was room for improvement. The problem was that lots of our projects had the same repeated stuff across this definitions of the Dockerfile. That led to some disadvantages, mainly: maintenance, homogeneity and simplicity.

Generating Navit configuration files via templates

After hours of changing this and that from my navit.xml file, i thought a good thing would be to transform this file into a template in order to make things easier to modify and maintain in the future.

There are many advantages on using templates to generate this config file

one clean place to modify variables

Respecting the DRY principal behind it

Use of code to modify colors (eg: using colour module to use on color properties)

Template logic and feature toggling 

future: change svg icon colors in a very quick way and more

last, but not least make styles more “shareable” between the community

For this map, I’ve used MAKI 1.0 icon set, great for this occasion.
