thinking about how james bond just wanted to love and to be loved.

when he told vesper that he loved her on that beach, quit his job for her almost immediately, said he wanted to sail the world aimlessly with her. when she’s drowning and he realizes he can’t save her, he just reaches for her. just wants to hold her. when he pulls her out of the water, short of breath and exhausted and shaking, and gives her the little air left in his lungs to try and save her.

when m’s order nearly killed him and he came back, a kicked dog returning with a bird, to help her. because he knew she needed him. when he blew up his childhood home for her without hesitation, when he fought an army to get to her. when he held her while she died, tried to make her laugh, kissed her forehead once she was gone and closed her eyes.

when he thought madeline had betrayed him, had compromised him, and he just… let her go. when he found out madeline had a daughter and, even though she insisted he wasn’t the father, woke up to make the kid breakfast. when madeline continued to insist he wasn’t the father and he groveled at safin’s feet, apologized and surrendered to save the kid’s life.

james bond was doomed from the start. made of love and loyalty in a world that demanded a coldness he was never capable of delivering. like skyfall burning in that barren winter field, he was destined to turn to ash—only after glowing bright and brilliant and brief.

People just have an affair or even entire relationships. They break up and they forget. They move on like they would have changed brand of cereals. I feel I was never able to forget anyone I've been with. Because each person had their own specific qualities. You can never replace anyone. What is lost is lost.

Each relationship, when it ends, really damages me. I never fully recover. That's why I'm very careful with getting involved, because... it hurts too much. Because i will miss of the person the most mundane things.

Like I'm obsessed with little things. Maybe I'm crazy, but when I was a little girl, my mom told me that I was always late to school. One day she followed me to see why.I was looking at chestnuts falling from the trees, rolling on the sidewalk, or ants crossing the road, the way a leaf cast a shadow on a tree trunk.

Little things. I think it's the same with people. I see in them little details, so specific to each of them that move me and that I miss and will always miss. You can never replace anyone, because everyone is made of such beautiful, specific details.

Let me ask if you think soulmates are real, or should I just outwardly admit that I want to love you on purpose?

Because if soulmates exist, they are built—even unconsciously—not found. Because I don’t want to love like a prophecy that was fulfilled a long time ago, like a fate I stumbled somewhere, like a book already written. I want to love with intention, with the certainty you walk across your room, knowing what waits around you every step you make. With the hope of hands reaching for each other in the dark. I want to choose someone the way gravity chooses the core—deliberately, knowing the pull is stronger than the distance.

Some say love is destiny, but I like to think of it as a decision, a conscious act—something intentional. I don’t wanna wait for the universe to align so I can finally meet the love I was hoping for. To hope is to recognize the possibility, so I hope I can build something real. Something I can live for it, breath for it, burn for it, cry for it, die for it. I want to make it real, not because we were meant to, but because we wanted to.

So tell me, do you believe in soulmates? Or should I say it straight that I choose you—and I’d choose you even if the universe didn’t.
