Hey, what about Privateās mom? How did his dad meet her, and manage to keep up a relationship long enough for him to be born? Were his mom and dad married? Also, did Private and his mom ever meet again? Or is his mom dead?
I had two questions like this so this is for both of you!
Backstory for Privates mother (Ivy Gentoo)
āTheoās mother, Ivy, was a flight attendant. She met Sam when he was on a mission early in his career. Back then, Sam was more rebellious, and Ivyās bubbly personality amused him. On a whim, he asked her out, and one thing led to anotherāthey had a one-night stand. When Sam tried to disappear without a word, Ivy was offended. She didnāt understand that his job made commitment impossible, nor that he didnāt want to be tied down. They parted on bad terms.
Sam never gave much thought to Ivy afterward. He occasionally saw other civilian women but had to be carefulārelationships like that could get him fired. š¬
Unbeknownst to him, that single night resulted in Theodoreās birth.
Ivy loved Theo deeplyāhe was the brightest part of her lifeābut she knew she couldnāt provide him with the stable future he deserved on her salary. At the same time, she resented that his father wasnāt around to help. From a few hints in conversation that night, she had learned that Sam was quite well-off in his career. So why was she only having to care for him?
Desperate for support, Ivy tried to track Sam down when Theo was two years old. One of her hobbies was sketching, and after that night, she had drawn him several times from memory. Hoping someone might recognize him, she took those drawings and started asking around, sharing small details Sam had told her.
But instead of finding Sam, she attracted the attention of a broad-shouldered EnglishmanāNigel.
As soon as Nigel learned that a civilian was digging into an agentās identity, he stepped in to contain the situation. But what he hadnāt expected was to discoverāand confirmāthat his brother had a son. While the revelation of being an uncle brought him joy, it also alarmed him. Ivy, without realizing it, had made herself a target. She had drawn too much attention, and now people who shouldnāt know about Samās existence were aware of herāand the fact that she had sensitive information.
When Nigel confronted her, Ivy admitted she had only been trying to get financial help from Theoās father. He sympathized with her as he saw that Ivy was struggling. She wasnāt carelessājust desperate to do what was best for her son.
Nigel made her a deal. Sam would take responsibility for Theo for a while, and in return, Nigel would relocate Ivy, find her a safer job, and ensure no one was looking for her anymore. The plan was that once she was stable and secure, Theo could return to her. Ivy, heartbroken but knowing she had little choice, agreed. With a heavy heart, she sent Theo off with his favorite stuffed animal, his lunacorn. Then, Nigel took him back to London.
Long story shortāNigel confronted Sam in secret and absolutely tore into him over the situation. Sam denied it as much as he could, but Nigel refused to back down. He reminded Sam that he had made a choice that came with consequences, and it was his responsibility to deal with them. That he was going to help. Sam argued that juggling both his career and raising a child would be complicated, but Nigel shut him down with a backhanded remark challenging his competence as an agent if he couldn't be relied on for something as small as this.
So the years passed. Theo asked questions about his mother, but Sam always brushed them off with dismissive answers like "Itās not important." Almost like the same he would get when he wanted to know what him and his uncle did for work.Ā With little to go on, Theo remained curious. The only tangible reminder was the strange clinginess he felt towards a plush he owned.
And of course When Theo was six, he ran away with the boys. Sam, prioritizing his work, didnāt immediately make finding him a top concern. Meanwhile, Nigel, who was also in America at the time, couldnāt reach Ivy about it. With no way to contact her, and with Sam failing to act fast enough, Ivy was left in the dark.
All she could do was hope that one day, she would see her son again.
(thanks for the ask!!! :))) )
