Screaming because Last Man: First Love just answered a question I have had since I started watching the series. Brb weeping. Spoilers below.

Minami gives Clyde Yun a nickname: Yutti. (I'll double check later how I want to romanize this but roll with me for now if you would.) This is. So significant. Because it follows the same pattern of the nickname he gave to Godo, Cindy. I've spent all this time trying to figure out how Minami got there, how did he come up with Cindy? Since Yun became Yutti... this means Shin from Shintaro became Shindi (Cindy). All this time Minami has been calling his brother a cutesy shortened version of his given name. Ah, the closure. This brings me so much peace.

Finally watched Last Man: Fake/Truth! Thoughts below, will include spoilers! (And gushing, lots of gushing.)

The brothers working together is kind of everything to me?? Their banter? Yes??? Godo sliding the gun to Minami. Them protecting each other? fcygkuyhiuvgybuhn THEMMMM Minami's hand on Godo's shoulder like that was... I. I can't. My heart. (But Minami have you considered being maybe slightly more normal about setting your brother up? Just a little?!) I understand none of this is... particularly *novel* but seeing it work with these characters has me giddy. Even just in the opening showing them kicking butt together is like, to me, "yeah okay everyone can go home this is all I wanted out of a potential sequel to the series." I'm thrilled with the new balance we've established for Minami calling him "Godo-san," "brother," and "Cindy." This is wonderful, I'm on Cloud Nine. Eager to dive further into this. Also, Godo calling Sakura "Madoka" when she's in trouble? Big fan. Presented like this, I'm a little less wary of what they'll do with them. Yoshida and Oizumi are lovely together so if nothing else I can sit back and enjoy them. Did I ever share that they have the same given name, same kanji and everything, so on set they are referred to as Yo-chan (Oizumi) and Yo-san (Yoshida)?

Kind of losing it a little bit at the limited edition box art for Last Man: First Love. Minami and Godo are back-to-back and they're so close and both wearing black and from their chests to their hips you can't tell where one of them ends and the other begins and I'm fine thank you

Here to deliver my predictable answer: Sawashiro. He's so deep even for Tsutsumi that I'm honestly impressed he sustained it for... all of that. If you don't feel a lot of things whenever Sawashiro says "Ichi" then, well. You're not me, ahem. Daigo is excellent also, of course!

This post convinced me in January 2025 that I needed to see this series. So I bought the official Chinese release and it changed everything, really. I have since acquired the official Japanese release and pre-ordered the special and movie which come out next week. Oh uh, this series also introduced me to Oizumi Yo. That guy who has been a constant inspiration to me? Yeah, him.

In honor of Last Man: First Love's release in less than two weeks, I've been putting together some posts to celebrate. This is the first: an excerpt of an interview with Masha and Oizumi from the movie pamphlet that was sold in theaters.

What was it like filming in Hokkaido? Fukuyama: Well, it was even colder than I had imagined. Oizumi: Looks like it was really hard on someone from Nagasaki. [laughs] Fukuyama: Yeah, it was. But, as soon as we had a moment of downtime, even Oizumi-san who is from Hokkaido would be the first one to desperately run through the snow toward the car that was standing off set. I thought to myself, “Ah, it is truly cold out here.” Oizumi: [laughs] Fukuyama: The fact that he could run through that was honestly amazing. I couldn't run; I was too afraid. Oizumi: Afraid that you might slip, right? But seriously, it was so cold. I hope that every bit of the screen will show the temperature we filmed those scenes in. Fukuyama: It was how many degrees below freezing? [laughs] Oizumi: It was like, we're doing it even in these conditions. [laughs] Watching the scenes with the landscape covered in snow, it does look cold. Fukuyama: Yo-chan, you worked out a lot on set before we started filming, didn't you? Oizumi: It was so cold that I had to warm up my body. So I ran. Not for the sake of my acting, but so that I wouldn't die. Fukuyama: But see, that's how someone in his forties warms up. I searched for where the wind was least likely to reach me and laid down there. I learned that was the best way to avoid getting cold. [laughs] That's how I kept warm as someone in my fifties. Oizumi: I have a lot to learn. [laughs]
