And the world around me feels as though it will end. The heart breaks and the eyes cry. And my soul thinks about the way we all sat on the breakfast table years ago—the basket filled with fruit that was still ripe; the sunlight from the window falling in; the white glow of the walls; warm tea brewing on the stove; and the echoes of laughter and chatter.

It’s June and I feel my heart growing a fever; so I cut myself some oranges and eat them in the winter sun and everything feels like it’s going to be okay again.

The International Court of Justice has basically given Israel the green light to continue its war on Palestinians but has told them to do it more cleanly. The ICJ is disgusting and corrupt and has made a complete mockery of international justice and institutions.

through this entire conflict ive realised one thing: the world is a wretched place and if it allows the genocide of one peoples, what makes you think it'll be against your own? Do you think you're safe from being murdered?

Somewhere, in a dream, I am 15 again. And I am peeling mandarins again in the sun. And I am laughing with my friends in class. And I go on a family trip with my best friend and her family. And we take lots of pictures. And me and my family are laughing together on the driveway at night as it rains. And I taste raspberry jam again for the first time in 10 years. And I try to find constellations in the sky. And in the morning, I have jam and butter sandwiches. And I make fairy bread for my sister. And we chop down the sugarcane from our backyard and chow it down as the juice smears our faces. And we plant roses. And my mum grows a cucumber plant. And the flocks of cockatoos still live near my house. And I take selfies in the sun. And I paint a lot and I write my first piece of poetry and the old suitcases from beneath my bed get moved. And I invite my best friend over and we go by ourselves to the old drain pipe near the stream. And I laugh till my stomach hurts. And I take the newly-washed laundry out into the sun. And suddenly, I am 15 again. And the only thing I want is for life to go on forever.

I saw a bowl of oranges in the sun today and life is hard and life is uncertain and full of guilt, but nonetheless, I am here. I am alive. I repeat this to myself every morning. Don't worry, I think I am still breathing.
