Aleheather week prompt: AU ... Summer Job AU
Heather had no idea why she was here, she wanted to do more with her summer, but noooo, she had to learn responsibility. God she hates her parents sometimes. She would be rich regardless, why would she need a summer job? So here she was, stuck at a checkout station at the local superstore. She hated it.
All she did was scan an item, patrol the aisles, and maybe hide in the stock room every so often. This was a dead job, thank god none of her friends or people from school came here, this store being in the south side of the city and everyone else, well important people, living on the north side. She currently turned the light for her aisle off, now having to switch stations. She popped her gum in her mouth before walking off, going to patrol the aisles.
She walked around with her kaki pants and blue vest making it plainly obvious that she was a worker. Occasionally one woman would come up to her and ask her where certain items are, men for some reason would just stare instead of coming up to her. But Heather decided she wasn’t in the mood to be helpful today, so she just walked towards the camping supplies, where no one ever seemed to be.
Once in the back she sat on a display for a portable cooler and took out her nail file. She knew she wouldn’t get in trouble for being back here, the security guard never really looked at the cameras, he just napped. Plus the other patrol people would just sit with her, not wanting to do anything either! This was such a waste of a summer, it seriously made Heather contemplate if she even /wanted/ the money!
Heather was snapped out of her thoughts when someone cleared their throat. She looks up from her nails and glares, looking up to see Alejandro Burromuerto standing there, a fellow worker. He always so smug that it made Heathers skin crawl. He always got better treatment then anyone else just because the stupid manager lady had the biggest, and probably illegal, crush on him. Seriously, the lady was ancient yet adored him! It’s so unfair!
“What do you want,” the young girl questions as she stands up, arms folded. Everything about Alejandro was like a curse in heathers eyes, he was so.. Ugh!
“I am on patrol duty, and here I am, finding a fellow employee wasting time,” he mocks, folding his rather large arms. “Although I can’t say I’m surprised, it’s you after all,” he teased with a small wink.
Heather glared at him even harder. “Well why are you back here then,” Heather asked, hoping to catch him up. She knew Alejandro was slacking off as well, he always did! The Latino never really did any work, and due to their manager falling in “love” with him, he never got in trouble for it!
“Because I knew someone had to be back here, someone is always slacking off around here,” he shook his head mockingly, as if he was ashamed for her. “But again, no surprise it’s you,” he repeats, taunting her even more.
“Can’t you get lost and let me have a moment of peace,” she stomps her foot and storms off. God, why was he so insufferable!? With flick of her hair over her shoulder, Heather turned away from the Latin man, unaware of his eyes lingering on her backside.
As the day drew to a close, Heather felt a smile form on her lips. Never again would she have to deal with these idiots call coworkers after the summer months ended; hell, she may not even step foot in the parking lot again! She sat down in the aisle to pass the time, flipping through a magazine she snatched from the register area. With her fingers moving to flip the pages and mind reading the words written, she was surprised to feel a body push up next to her. She didn’t even have to look up to realize who it was, all Heather did was feel his body heat. “/what/,” she glares, her grey eyes meeting his emerald green ones.
“An employee can’t check in on what another employee is reading,” he questions her, acting as if his intentions were innocent. “I’m just making sure the material is suitable for the children to see, you are in the kids section after all.”
Heather closed the magazine, allowing herself to argue with the idiot. “You know.. did I ever mention how annoying you are,” she says sarcastically.
“You say that chica but we all know you have a crush on me. But, I find it flattering you deny your feelings,” Alejandro replies with a cocky smile on his lips, his perfectly white teeth flashing at her. Heathers eyes only widened, looking at him disgusted. Did she think he was attractive? Well.. kinda. But to have a crush on /Alejandro/! That’s just wrong!
“As if loser! I wouldn’t date you if you were the last man on earth,” she shakes her head before standing up. Alejandro saw the challenge in front of him, and had to hold back his grin before following after her.
“Oh please señorita. If you hated me so much, why don’t you go on a date with me. One date and I’ll leave you alone,” he offers, “unless you want to stay in denial forever,” he offers her. Heather stopped in her tracks as she turned to look at him, both looking into one another’s eyes, challenging one another to the battle of wits.
Finally, Heather gave in. “How does me going on a date with you, prove that I don’t like you,” she questions, her curiosity of his proposal taking over.
“Well it’s simple,” he starts off his explanation, “if you don’t want me to keep bothering you, go on a date with me. Unless you /want/ me to keep this up, then you must like me.”
Heather thought her options over quickly in her mind before reaching a decision. “Fine, /one/ date. Tomorrow, six o'clock, I will text you the details,” she states before walking over.
Later on in the night, as the employees all made their way to their cars, Heather felt a hand brush up against her own. “See you tomorrow mi amour,” a Latin voice whispered in her ear before crossing in front of her to get to his car. As Heather watched him leave she couldn’t help a little smile. But just as quick as it came, she wiped it off her face in the hope that no one noticed.
