I’m honestly surprised I didn’t go bald after all the times I got chemical burns on my scalp and heat damage to my hair as a kid
#my maternal grandpa died right before my mom was born so growing up my grandma had no idea how to take care of her hair#especially hair as thick and textured as hers#so growing up her hair was basically always straightened#and so when I was growing up my hair was essentially always a buzz cut or straightened#if we’re sharing our mixed trauma today here’s my contribution#my parents were highkey shook when I decided I was going to go natural and actually take care of myself#also part of it was assimilation bc if I had short/straight hair I wasn’t as identifiably ‘ethnic’ (aka brown)
