OK. If you haven't noticed, I've been taking/am taking an extended hiatus to focus on my original writing (yay also ahhhh). Part of this journey is learning how to ask for help SO if you'd like to support my ongoing quest to get published, two things:

a) follow my writing socials (instagram) (bluesky) b) subscribe to my newsletter*

I think my book stands on its own merits but it's kind of not the most marketable concept, and the industry right now is really conservative (in more than one way) so while having a strong social media following isn't necessarily REQUIRED for publishing fiction, I can't deny that it'll help.

Thank you. This was deeply uncomfortable to post for multiple reasons (jumpscare warning: my face & name). Also, I'm still on discord under the same username as this tumblr and fairly active there so you're always more than welcome to drop into my DMs and say hi!

*right now my plan is to use this ONLY for publishing notifications (if I get an agent, if I secure a publisher, cover reveal, ARC requests, etc.). If things get more complicated, I'll use a separate newsletter. I used to work in e-mail marketing and I hatehatehate e-mailing people, almost as much as I hate getting unsolicited e-mails.

it is honestly amazing how much of writing and editing is just. logistics. like... do i use a name here or a pronoun? if i move this dialogue tag to the middle of this line and break it in half, does the end of the line hit harder that way? what if i move the tag to the front? what if i remove it entirely? ...wait, whose point of view am i in; can i reasonably say this character is appalled, or must i say they look or seem or sound appalled? is this a deliberate action or a step-removed one; is her hand closing on his shoulder, or is she closing her hand on his shoulder? environment environment environment, we need to break all this dialogue up with some narration, the scene is coming untethered. what! are! they doing! with! the rest of their bodies that are not hands! fuck fuck fuck FUCK i forgot we covered this two chapters ago and now i either need to cut this whole chunk or find a reason to reprise the conversation from earlier. name or pronoun? name or pronoun? name or pronoun? move this clause around in this sentence? oh i'll add this phrase-- nope, never mind, past!me added the same phrase two lines down. okay, if i add too much environmental narration it's going to take away from this bit, but not enough and it won't feel grounded. what if i move this to its own line? where the FUCK are their hands?

simon 'in defense of the weak, in the face of the mighty' snow could totally be a union rep. once he's been in construction long enough he can get absolutely fucking ruthless about it. he hits 40 and he's late for his anniversary dinner with baz because he was shouting down a contractor that wasn't going to offer them hot-weather shelter and water breaks because of a time crunch with a ferocious rage he hasn't had to summon since the hobgoblin hoard.

(they have their water breaks, their cooling tent, AND an extra 5k by the end of the day and simon's electrician got a box-fan set up in the crawlspace while he's working. june in london is bad but getting one over simon is worse.)

I wish that all those rich pricks didn't get away scott free after the game on the island. Not because I need my stories to inflict punishment on the wicked, but because it would make the ending far more impactful.

Imagine an ending where the enablers of the game all got arrested or killed or whatever, then closing on Los Angeles and seeing players being recruited?

Like, you think evil has been defeated, but the decadence of the rich persists. Those arrested wriggled their way out of trouble, or if they died there were others happy to take their place and restart the games. Now that would be a powerful message about capitalism. It's not about single individuals with a lot of money, its about the whole system that protects them. A system that will only stop exploiting the poor when it's dismantled from top to bottom.
