"Cryo Psychosis AU"

I've held off on posting about this because I wanted to attempt making art for it first, but that'll just wait for another day.

Basically, Captain and Engineer Mark are the only ones to remember the Wormhole Incident. Obviously, this is distressing by itself, but the two can't simply 'hide' the weight of what happened to them, and they also attempt to sneakily probe others to see if they remember anything too.

No one does, and they grow increasingly concerned about this as gossip starts making rounds and concerned glances start reaching a peak. Eventually, they're wrapped into a medical evaluation, diagnosed with cryo psychosis, and it's reported to their higher-ups.

"Cryo psychosis" is a rare phenomenon associated with malfunctioning cryopods, and upon further investigation, it's confirmed that the two pods Captain and Mark were assigned to were the only ones to have malfunctioned this way. (C.C. is shaking her fist at Mark for 'fucking up Captain's brain' because he's such a stupid engineer. Her words.)

Given the specifics of Captain's position, they're deemed no longer fit to continue their duties, and the same goes for Mark (who gets replaced by Mack, perhaps? But like a non-tyrannical version). They're both essentially put on an extended medical leave and given a welfare plan, as well as regular citizenship on the new planet.

Both bond over being stuck with the memories of what really happened. Sometimes they agonize and wonder if it's all in their head after all, if everyone's right to think what they experienced wasn't real, but they're unable to let go of the truth of what happened to them. Because, in the end, whether it 'actually happened' or not, it doesn't change how they react and feel about it happening, or how the phantoms of those memories or delusions affect them long after the fact.

They grow old this way. It seems sad to be so isolated in that shared experience, for it to be so heavy that they only ever talk to each other about it, but they find happiness and live peaceful lives, with everyone on the new planet knowing exactly who they are and ready to be there for them in even the smallest ways.

They're never alone, not really, even with each other. This is a slice-of-life with a happy ending.

illinois x y/n aquarium date but his idea of that is *not* taking you to an aquarium, but exploring this incredibly dangerous cave that's said to have been part of the ocean floor millions of years ago. and in the darkness, both of you sit still, waiting in the silence until the ghosts of ancient marine life start to emerge from the damp rocks, illuminating the empty crevices and eventually the entire space. within seconds all manners of aquatic creatures swim through the open air. their ghosts float gracefully and rise and sink and dance as if the sea had never disappeared.

I loooveee love thinking about physical contact with Illy...just uhmmm, he's fairly muscular cuz of the consistent physical labor (I constantly bemoan the fact I'm not as "fit" as he is lolol), but I still like to imagine him with a bit of muffin top hehe... AHHHGHGG

ANYWAY. I have a reoccurring imagining of being on a big old fancy train together and falling asleep on his side. Classic shit y'know. Nodding off and I say fuck it and decide I don't care (god forbid if....my head swayed the direction opposite of him...the horror), thus we spy me snuggling into his shoulder.

Initially he's a little taken off guard but then TOTALLY is into it with a Certified Bastard Grin, soaking that shit in...mf. He'd keep reading his book while staying carefully still so as not to disturb me.

Alongside this he'd totally dig me being an artist, and we'd bond over art history, though most of it is him somewhat teaching me a lot of things I don't know. We mutually like this, though. He'd be gloating about my skills sometimes and I get mega fucking embarrassed fr.

I know I've said in the past I like to imagine Illy as being aro like myself HOWEVERRRRR listen...his poor little heart breaking a bit when I'm first explaining the meaning of aro cuz he's liked me since day one, so he's almost fully in dramatic heartbroken homo cowboy about it before I explain that no I'm not incapable of love I just don't agree with how love is viewed/categorized, etc etc. I think in this case he'd try to hide behind his same old cocky attitude and joking ask what I must think of him or whatever, and I'm like. I love you, duh. And his silly ass melts.

My music tastes would confuse him endlessly lol.

Uhhhh just rambly thoughts abt Dark being high and what I think he'd be like

I think it'd chill him out like a lot, but god forbid if they trigger any paranoia for him. We'd have to do it alone, especially with something distracting going on, cuz I wouldn't want him to go in the wrong direction with his thinking. He'd probably kind of hate it because of the vulnerability aspect, which again is why we'd need to do it alone.

I'd personally want to play some games, watch documentaries or other long-form content, and just enjoy the munchies. Maybe chatter a little if I'm not flat out mute. I think he'd initially deny he'd need to eat any (I was sure to bring extra), but he changed his mind like 3 hours into the trip. He'd be yammering but mumbling a lot, and we'd be able to get some laughs out of each other.

Eventually we'd go to sleep snuggling. I'm not a big cuddler but sleeping in the same bed as a block of ice would be a kind of heaven methinks

Honestly - and this is just me talking to the air - I cannot for the life of me think of Illy being any version of "normal". Like, I've watched the Indiana movies to completion (except Temple of Doom which is dogshit, and the newest movie because it doesn't interest me), and okay he's an archeologist professor who goes on ball-to-the-walls adventures. I Cannot see Illy doing the same, despite how popular said depiction is within the fandom.

Like, I get he's supposed to be a joke bootleg of Indiana, but when I try to imagine him in anything other than his adventuring gear it feels Wrong, and to indulge in any content that depicts him that way requires me to suspend my disbelief to do so. Which may be limiting my ability to depict him, but I don't even mind that much. Without intending it, I just see him as some strange immortal vagabond who's adventuring is nonstop. This isn't something he or narrative acknowledges, either. He's Just Like That.

Random Platonic/"Romantic" selfship headcanons, for my soul.

At one point in time, Bing and I got the word "bro" temporarily banned from the house due to our "bro talk" bit that we kept doing to make ourselves laugh. We now keep it going outside the house, usually at the skate park.

One time Illinois accidentally nicked me while showing off his whip skills (it is in fact mostly for looks) and he was nearly murdered in broad daylight for it.

The way my age regression has slowly got caught in different ways were a bit embarrassing, but Dark at some point just made a general statement about leaving me alone and everyone was like "yeah no we weren't going to do that" (I have to write a separate thing about this for myself actually.... >.>)

Speaking of which, from day fucking 1 Stan Wheeler FULLY runs with the idea that he's my dad. Like, at first I kinda treated it like a joke, but then he kept going until one day I accidentally called him dad, and at that point I couldn't walk it back. He was so damn happy about it. The others don't even blink an eye. Finding out I age regressed intensified this even more, much to my embarrassment and later acceptance. He gives me head pats.

Me and Ed have beef for the simple fact we're both Southern-coded. He calls me heifer one time and I threw my clipboard directly at him. We had to go to "HR" together. We're still beefing, but we have some laughs sometimes, usually while mutually wishing someone's downfall.

Bim and I are THEEEEEEE gay gossipers in the building, sorry not sorry. We're judging low-key - or, well, I am. He's doing it very blatantly. Everyone's used to him at this point, but if they found out I was swapping rumors they might be a little shocked, even heartbroken (dramatic). He doesn't tell anyone about it, cuz he thinks it's funnier knowing my real thoughts while walking around his unsuspecting "co-workers".

Every time my period cramps come for me Dr. Iplier is rolling up to tell me I'm dying, everyone tells him to STOP SAYING THAT, I loudly agree that I am, and everyone BEGS that I PLEASE STOP SAYING THAT.

Movie night is a blast.

Speaking of which, me and Yan are MEGA BESTIES and one of our top bonding activities is sharing media. She shows me basically all kinda of niche, undubbed Asian-based comic books and animated shows, and it is suuuch a blast. We FREQUENTLY discuss ships and line up extremely well in terms of content we're able to handle/enjoy. We are total fiends together. She's like my sister, kinda.

Date Mark in particular loves my fuckass laugh. He thinks it's cute, even when I sound so intense for no damn reason. He also just generally fawns over me - and while some of the other egos like, agree at times, if silently, mostly they think he needs to chill out a little cuz he is so damn loud about it LOL. But that's why he gets extra kisses.

Darkiplier + Me = Emotion suppression and PAIN duo.

Yancy and I be rough-housing in communal spaces and at first it freaked other egos out to walk into, but now they kinda just stand and watch us cuz we're kinda funny lookin. And gay

Murdock doesn't do it intentionally - he's quiet as fuck - but I randomly run into him without expecting it and end up screaming for a quick second cuz he looks like a fucking demon in the corner of my eye. He thinks this is hilarious, of course, and tries to do it on purpose.

Eric appreciates me cuz I'll ramble for the both of us easy-peasy, so he doesn't have to worry so much about contributing to conversation. I learn how to handle his stuttering without hesitation. It's to the point I'm pretty good at sensing when he needs help, and I give reassurance in the middle of convos if I feel like something might've come off wrong. Through me, he gets a little better with his anxiety and communication in general (aka not repressing himself). When my verbal shutdowns became realized, he was one of the first egos to Just Get It.

I keep spooking Engie on purpose, MUCH to his dismay. I just think it's funny to walk up behind him and suddenly touch his shoulders. He ONLY tolerates it with me, though.

Actor Mark blurb.

TW/CW: Alcoholism/substance dependency.

It's not terribly obvious that, in a big way, he depends on alcohol to feel stable. He likes how it makes him feel, even the days when it's so bad that he spirals. He's not sure if he could ever completely quit. However, he's sneaky. He's very good at that, you know, and most could never tell he had a 'drinking habit', especially through the changing times, during which alcohol is popular, portrayed or otherwise.

Of course, he doesn't need a terrible amount to get 'there' anyway. When he imbibes, one or two glasses is good enough. Usually, he's one for champagne - but on the days when he just feels like shit, and wants to sink into it deeper, he opts for a bottle of wine, something red. Things like whiskey weren't his particular forte, regardless.

One blessed side effect of it all? He rarely dreams. As long as it's in his system, he doesn't dream. He doesn't remember it all over again, like before, when he first felt horror for what he'd done. It was fleeting, he's suppressed it, and he's so vindicated and proud. It was never his fault he did the things he did.

That's why he hates a withdrawal. The first had been unintended, a few days dry due to the shoots he was doing at the time. It'd been horrific. He thought he was finally losing his mind, as though it hadn't been lost before. The nightmares - terrors - that came, lingering, clutching his heart maliciously. Blood and rot, pain, withering ...he woke shaken, afraid, each time.

Once the drink's effects flowed through his blood, it was all okay again, he damn-near wept from joy.

The second time had been intentional, for...reasons, of which he wouldn't admit to.

(Maybe lingering hands or eyes, a temptation too irresistible. He thought, maybe, maybe, he should try to be better. Maybe it'd be good, even for himself. Maybe, it would finally prove something good about him.)

Never again. He hopes.
