Behind White Eyes//Sujay & Barnabas

Rarely were there instances where Sujay wished he could see; Â but seeing Barnabasâs facial reactions would seem worth it. âEasy on the eyes, wasnât she?â Sujay could tease Barnabas all night, and he really wanted to as well. But the time has passed and and it was time for the curtains to drop.
âI am one for accessories, this is true.â  If the rings he constantly wore were any indication of that. âBut really this night out, is not about me, my friend. It is about you.â He took the opportunity of when they were alone, for the few moments they would be as he spoke barely above a whisper. âI do like you Barnabas, so you can imagine I enjoy hearing about how you are doing.â His hand felt empty, and he wished he had some wine in hand before getting comfortable. âBut, perhaps some of the things Iâve heard have not been so good.â
"You said you had an errand," Barnabas cautioned, ignoring what Sujay asked for the time being. "Is there anything for me to assist you with, or was this journey purely for your own enjoyment?" The question was laced with his slight annoyance, the punctuation enough to cause one of the young women to think twice before entering. Barnabas sighed. "What is it that you have heard?" They had been friends for many years, but even friendship had hardships. One like their own would not be immune to the unpredictability of the human nature, even if they were more than human.
"There..." He paused, thinking over his words. Barnabas leaned back in the couch, making himself comfortable. It was clear to him now that they would not be leaving this establishment soon. "Humans are as they've always been. They will never learn." His eyes fell on the women walking around them. It was as if there was an invisible bubble surrounded their perimeter, the way they were ignored. "My dear," Barnabas raised a hand, gesturing one of the servers over. "Please, bring me and my colleague something to drink and eat. We're quite famished."
He turned his attention back to his friend once the woman left, half-dazed as she wandered away, "You can mention the good and the bad. I'd like to know what's being whispered."
