its horrid that gazans have to post their private, painful moments of saying farewell to their dead families. its so fucking terrible they have to post it online instead of being allowed privacy - and all so that the west can see their suffering because it doesnt even believe them. and even when they show it openly, the west still lies and fabricates lies and fake narratives. they literally have to humanize themselves. what the fuck. how does this not fill you with anger
it goes against so much of what i stand for to share "palestinians are humans, they have hobbies, they have pets, they laugh and cry" kind of posts because i've spent so much of my life and career completely rejecting the notion that we should humanize ourselves, that we should ever be defensive, that we should entertain this racism at all
but it breaks my heart when i have to share them from people in gaza, who are using their five minutes of internet connection, their 25% of battery charge collected from a macguyvered car battery, emotionally exhausted, thirsty and hungry, sleeping in schools that have turned into refugee shelters and still making the time to say "please, i am human too, i am still alive, please fight for me" in english to appeal to the only people who have the power to help
i shared a tweet from a jjk artist in gaza i follow about a bts photocard being found in the middle of the rubble. even the love of anime and kpop and sports is no longer just a hobby, but an appeal to humanity. what was once a source of joy is now proof of life.
the worst part is that you won't find this content in arabic. palestinians don't post like this in arabic. but when they translate themselves, they recognize that they must humanize themselves first. it's an unspoken understanding of dehumanization, one that has dictated a whole region's understanding of the value of human life. in arabic they speak with dignity, with anger, with sorrow. in english, they appeal for their existence.
i share these posts not just because we have to reach everyone we can, because im being asked to and i will not refuse. but i also share them because they're evidence of how deep the racism has run. at what dehumanization leads to. of war crime after war crime. this too i will not forget.
gaza has just been completely cut off from the world.
after increased intensity of israeli aistrikes tonight, the last cable providing communications was destroyed. telecommunications have been completely cut off. they cannot reach one another. they cannot reach paramedics. the red crescent society has completely lost contact with their branch in gaza. nobody inside can reach anyone inside, and especially not outside of gaza to tell us what is going on. this is a complete atrocity.
al jazeera has managed to maintain infrequent communication with their journalists in gaza. from their reporter wael dahdouh: âwe are not fine. body parts are everywhere, missiles are targeting everyone, and the bombing hasnât stopped for a second.â
do not stop talking about gaza. they are trying to commit genocide in the dark. do not stop talking.

Under international law, Israel is 100% obligated to vaccinate all the Palestinians living under its occupation, yet they have refused to provide Palestinians with vaccines since they started their vaccination campaign 6 months ago, despite the fact that 85% of Israelâs population are fully vaccinated (the highest percentage in the world) and despite the fact that Israel has been sending millions of vaccines to foreign countries in exchange for them moving their embassy to occupied Jerusalem instead of giving those vaccines to Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza.
Two days ago Israel has, oh so generously, decided to share some of the millions of vaccines that they have been hogging with the Palestinian non-Authority, but thereâs just one small problem: all the vaccines that Israel has âdonatedâ are either expired or near-expired and they were only given to Palestinians in exchange for them to give Israel a brand new vaccine shipment thatâs supposed to be shipped to Palestinians this September directly from Pfizer as a form of charity, even though again, Israel is 100% obligated to vaccinate all the Palestinians without anything in return from them.
Gaza of course is left out of this deal, even though Israel bombed the ONLY COVID-19 facility in Gaza and their Ministry of Health just last month. Please keep that in mind when the media attempt to save Israelâs image by reporting on how they wanted to help out by donating vaccines, but it was the evilâą Palestinians who ârefusedâ their generous offer.

You may have heard that the Keystone XL pipeline project, which environmentalist and First Nations protestors have been fighting for years, has been cancelled by developer TC Energy after Biden revoked its permit (in January 2021).
Despite this victory, First Nations/Sioux water protecters High Elk and Jasilyn Charger are still facing criminal charges for protesting the construction of this pipeline. High Elk faces 23 years and Jasilyn faces a year of jail time after their arrest in January 2021.
You can sign a petition to drop the charges against them (dated Jan 2021, updated March 25 2021) here (and watch this space for updates and requests for protesters to attend court dates). There is also a GoFundMe campaign to support Roots Camp (which was set up on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation in protest of the Keystone XL Pipeline, and will remain as the pipes are removed) and to help fight the charges against High Elk and Jasilyn (updated 23 January 2021). This victory is not a permanent one. The Keystone pipeline has been cancelled and reinstated in the past.
âWe know they'll be back, the oil companies," said Harold Frazier, the chairman of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe in northern South Dakota. "We could have another president just four years from now. So it's kind of a temporary relief.â
As long as the U.S. president has the authority to issue cross-border permits for piplines (such as the permit that Trump issued for Keystone XL), any president (including Biden) could reinstate approval for it without warning. The pipeline was revoked solely on presidential authority and not for any reason that references First Nations sovereignty or the project's illegality. That's why there is currently (as of 2 June 2021) a lawsuit challenging the president's authority to do this.

The Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) is not being shut down, having been allowed by the Biden administration to continue running (article dated 21 May 2021).
"It's not about canceling one extractive project or another. It's about ignoring our sovereignty," said Angeline Cheek, an Indigenous justice organizer for the American Civil Liberties Union of Montana, who is from the Fort Peck Reservation.
"Keystone was canceled, but DAPL still exists. What is the logic in that?" Cheek said.
This overturns a decision last year (July 2020) to halt the running of the pipeline pending an environmental review. You can read updates on the Standing Rock Sioux litigation against the pipeline here.
Given the ever-evolving nature of the situation involving these pipelines, it seems irresponsible to share news about Keystone XL's cancellation without history, action items, or things to keep an eye on.
