being a teenage girl between 2010 and 2015 must have been the shit. lana del rey dropped born to tie and ultraviolence. the arctic monkeys dropped am. justin bieber. one direction. u had tumblr and weheartit. u post a black and white pic of a cigarette and u get like 20k notes. pretty little liars, vampire diaries and glee were all on tv. twilight was still really popular. all around it must have been fun
the year is 2025
it's truly insane how much more functional society would be and how much happier everyone would be if every job was perpetually 10% overstaffed (and people who weren't needed could chill and rotate in when needed while still getting paid) instead of 10-50% understaffed but that wouldn't be 'efficient' (in the short term, for shareholders) so fuck everyone I guess
why did they start breeding busses to have flat faces. they can't breathe
if you think this
looks better than this
you're part of the problem. I'm so tired of all the excuses like "oh they look cuter!" "why do you care?" THEY CAN'T BREATHE. People intentionally breeding these vehicles to give them health problems because they "like how it looks" makes me so mad
Actually, flat faced buses can breathe fine! This is a case of convergent evolution, but the two types of buses are not genetically related.
Pointed nose buses are decended from trucks, and have their engines located in the front. This requires the larger nose in order to provide the space for the engine as well as adequate ventilation.
Meanwhile, flat nosed buses are actually descended from city buses (which in turn descend from trolleys), and were domesticated due to their greater maneuverability and capacity.
Contrary to popular belief, flat nosed busses typically do not experience breathing problems. Their engines are located in the back of the bus, with a large breathing vent located in the rear.
These buses also have a different structure to accommodate this change, typically including doubled back tires, a different weight distribution, and a change in location of the emergency egress door from the back to the left side.
I think about this often and I'm always so charmed by it.
I just wanna be the very unfunny autistic person saying that the flat face change was made to create much less flattened children on our roads. The driver can’t see their tiny selves as easily over that big ass bus nose. Not that anyone was asking for the real reason we bred our buses like we did our pugs.
Meanwhile this was what various medical professionals in that reddit thread had to say about it.
They do not, in fact, love it.
The proof that chiropractic is an utterly failed medical profession is not that adjustments can cause harm, but that the profession has responded by ignoring and denying the harm, rather than studying it.
All medical treatments (other than complete placebos) have some risk of harm, but for real treatments given by real professionals, the harms are tracked, measured and warned about. If the harms are too severe, the treatment is no longer used.
One of my colleagues was a chiropractor. After a while he began to suspect that a lot of his patients actually just had muscle tears, not spinal issues. He bought an ultrasound machine, learned how to use it and how to read ultrasound, and found that to be the case. Between that and the constant pressure from management to get customers (because lbr, they're not patients, they're customers), he got sick and tired of it and bailed to become a sonographer full time.
And before people pipe up with "but my chiro is good, they have me do exercises and so on!" that's just regular ass physiotherapy. See a physiotherapist. A lot of people who sing the praises of chiros because they saved them from chronic pain would have gotten the same benefits from seeing an actual licensed physio, who can prescribe the same or even better exercises because they have an actual fucking education.
The amount of fucking charts I've seen where a patient went to a chiropractor and now needs a surgery is fucking insane. All I do is medical charts, day in and day out doing medical code. I've gone over hundreds of patients whole year of appointments. Unless the chiropractor is also a physical therapist, that patient is going to get worse and need surgery with very few exceptions. It doesn't matter when they mention seeing a chiropractor, by the end of the year they need surgery for issues that started after *shock and awe* a chiropractor appointment! I've seen patients needing multiple surgeries to be functional after chiropractors. I've seen patients lose their ability to walk because of chiropractors. And all the way up till they need surgery, through the issues piling up and needing more pain meds, the patients insist it's helping because the want so badly for it to be helping. I wish it did
pssst guys if you think you need a chiropractor, you may actually need is a Sports Medicine Doctor, Physical Therapist, or a physiotherapist like robotslenderman said:
Are your bones pinching? Are you recovering from an injury? PT is your answer. Sometimes your joints need to be lubed. Exercises can help. Make sure they a) watch you do the exercises to make sure you're doing them correctly and b) ask you where you're feeling the stretch to ensure that the muscle they want targeted is what's being targeted. Otherwise you're just making the muscles compensating for the weak one even stronger. My first PT taught me how to return my hip into place. Wonderful folks.
Do your fucking anything and everything muscles hurt and are always tight? Do you have fibromyalgia or some similar bullshit? Do you always need a fucking massage? Myofascial pain management (referred pain & trigger points from knotted muscles) can help your spine and literally everything a lot. This website is my best friend. Massaging or rolling a tennis ball over the points causing referred pain can really help. If it's really dire, TENS and similar machines can help. My doctor uses a Acuscope & myopulse on my trigger points when I need to be put back together like a broken robot.
Are you pretty convinced your symptoms are connected but no one can prove it because they're only looking at one area? You may benefit from osteopathy: NOTE: NOT some random person who calls themselves an osteopath that bc they use "holistic" pseudo science, you want someone with a doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine (DO). Their thing is looking at the body as a whole.
Is your blood not in the right place? is your tongue kinda blue? Acupuncture. It doesn't hurt as much as you think it will. Science gone back and forth a couple of times as to whether acupuncture is effective, and found that for some things it can be! Note I'm biased bc I have several of the conditions it's been proved to help with. Having your blood suddenly In the Right Place after years of it not being Right can make you feel high.
"Ok but seriously I think something is very very wrong with my spine": Orthopedics. Esp if you have numbness or tingling. I also had luck with a sports medicine doctor that incorporated some chiropractic techniques, specifically a spine gun. At no point did he put his hands on my spine and was really clear that what he diplomatically called "non-gentle" chiropractic methods such as the gonstead method don't actually help in the long term because your muscles will just pull your spine out of place again if that's where they're used to being. Like wisteria-wolf said, if someone is using these techniques, you want them to be a physical therapist (or something similar) my doctor's use of this was for heavy duty shit: apparently my muscles were holding up my body instead of my spine. I also went to a guy who said he was a chiropractor then once he gets people in there it's like "Sike!" all physiotherapy bc no one knows what physiotherapy is.

IT’S LITERALLY HAPPENING LMAOOOOO
okay, hear me out.
mermaids, woman on top, fish on bottom. pretty nice, pretty good.
but what about fish on top, woman on bottom? getting a bit strange, but i think it could absolutely work.
how about... fish on top and squid on bottom?
and she's giant and she communicates with psychic powers
AND SHE'S A MILF!

learning to notice an absence of people of color is crazy. you start seeing it everywhere. ill see a random pic of characters or people or whatever and be like "these are all white people. why"
all the babies in those baby youtube video memes. humanized character posts. like. its the little innocent shit. and like, the people making those baby memes probably arent seeking out white babies. maybe theyre just easier to find. but why are they easier to find? a complicated question, surely... but you know what it probably comes down to. someone, somewhere, maybe a lot of someones in a lot of places, made a choice. maybe knowingly, maybe not. but they made a choice. it starts to make you feel like a conspiracy theorist!!
its really funny that after 2 months this post is still making racists come into my askbox treating me like im a horrible person for pointing out that sometimes people of color are excluded from things in visible and offputting ways. cry about it
people have say this thousands of times but it's still kinda wild how if you show your butt or boobs or genitals in a video to people to get horny and you get money thats Bad and Inmoral but if you do it in a Good Movie with A Good Story that is for the Narrative and it's Fine. Sadly if you point this out people say "you're right good movies with a good story showing naked people are also bad and inmoral"
This is literally what people are talking about when they say AI will be used to mainstream widely held bigotry. LLMs are trained on frequency and probability -> straight relationships are more well represented in the dataset -> straight pronouns and terms become the "correct" normal.
This is a form of backdoor bigotry from both normative facts (there are more straight than gay relationships) and well represented bigoted beliefs (men are superior to women).
Combine this with the mass of people inclined to believe (and being encouraged to believe) that if AI says and does something it must be correct
It's also ableist. In the story I'm working on, there's a character with one eye, and the grammar check constantly tries to correct my sentences to her having two eyes.
Same with a character who's an amputee. Grammar check insists that he has two hands. He's gotta have two hands. Every sentence in which I refer to him using his hand and I use 'hand' singular and not 'hands' plural? Wrong. Correct that shit.
Fuck off. My characters have been injured, they are disabled, and they don't need to be fixed on any level, least of all grammatically.
One the characters in my urban fantasy has one eye, and im comstantly trying to go back and fix this shit
My woke take, as someone who has worked in both a public library and a school library, is that we desperately need both more books that are at a higher reading level but a less mature subject matter, and more books that are at a lower reading level but a more mature subject matter, because 8 year olds who are advanced readers are still 8 year olds and don't want to read about graphic violence and torture, and teens and adults who have learning difficulties or who are just later readers for whatever reason are still teens and adults and don't want to read about Billy the Bunny going to school or whatever the hell.
Shoutout to people in the notes also mentioning people learning the language, I should've mentioned that really, given that I've been stuck reading German picture books myself while learning German.
How is this not fucking weird to you guys.
“Wow, I couldn’t clock this trans man, that means he passes so well that he looks like a violent bigot!”
Do you people not hear yourselves
