“hey, i didn’t tell you not to. i just wondered how you were getting by. so you wanna be like kev then? be a bartender? not quite how i saw you ending up but good for you.” he smiled at her and held up the bear in a cheers. “that’s cool, with my meds one beer is all it’ll take. i’m a cheap date.”

Her mantra of putting herself first was going well and so far she hadn’t had to deal with the kids and their shit. “Cheapest bar’s the one I own. But don’t think being family gets you a discount.”

“then how the fuck are you getting by? none of us have any fucking money.” he was glad to see his sister again, he’d missed her. a lot. a lot more than when he left for the army, but then again he wasn’t batshit crazy anymore. or he was but he was getting treated for it. “fuck you, being family should make me get it for free.”

ian looked around new york, his hands covering his arms, rubbing them to keep warm. he couldn’t stay in chicago anymore, her felt like he was going to lose his shit there. he needed a fresh start. “hey- is new york really as expensive as they all say?” he asked to the closest person to him. “and where’s the cheapest bar?”
