hwandorp is a semi-literate roleplay set on the fictional island of hwangmun near the coast of incheon, south korea, home to magic folk. the island is protected by heavy magic that deters and repels any muggle folk from accidentally finding it unless if granted special access. it takes place in the growing city hwando which serves as home to the international magical institute of hwando located at city center that aims to teach and nurture growing witches and wizards.
with our latest activity check, we have lost a majority of the members in our roleplay. over the weekend, we did receive two apps however, even with these two muses it would set our numbers at a staggeringly low number of only 5 muses without guarantee as to if they will continue to be active.
this is not to shun any past or current members! we understand that real life happens, interest in certain muses and roleplays drop and that's just what it simply is! we truly enjoyed our time creating hwando and cherished all the members and muses we did receive in the short time since we've opened. however, we don't think it would make sense to continue holding on and forcing any of the current members to wait for any new applicants to join as that's something no one can predict.
with that, we sincerely thank any and all interest our members had shown in creating their wonderful muses and allowing hwando to be their home. we wish the best for all your writing endeavors and hope that everyone will continue to write in whichever communities they move onto find and join!

hello! I'm interested to join in but I wonder if you're accepting a grey / evil character here ? is there character allowed to have an illegal job? also, is it possible for my character to not own a wand but still able to cast a spell / manipulate elements?

we're very excited to hear about your interest in our roleplay!
we currently have a lot of muses who have dark wizard family backgrounds but many of them don't truly associate themselves with the dark arts. in that case, we'd definitely be open to accept morally grey or evil characters here with us! however, we would like to note that based on the lore of roleplay, even though the island and organization are accepting of witches and wizards from any background, they don't condone the acts of dark arts to be performed on the island. if anyone is caught doing something dubious involving the dark arts, there are extreme penalties for that. this isn't to say our members aren't allowed to write their muses with such topics, we'd just like that things be written in a reasonable fashion to the lore considering there is a strong law enforcement with an auror department located in the capitol of hwando.
as for your muse themself, although they may be morally grey or evil, they wouldn't be allowed to be going around intentionally causing harm to others in a fashion that would make it obvious if that makes sense. however, ic wise, should your writing partners be alright with anything that might put their muse in comprimising or jeopardizing situations that is completely up to you guys!
as for not having a wand, although wandless magic does exist and some cultures have practiced it, this may be one of the restrictions we have that all muses require a wand! for the cultures that have mainly relied on using wands to channel their magic, wandless magic typically works for very highly skilled and talented wizards or witches. this isn't to say that the muses here wouldn't be able to perform such magic as there are some spells that are simple enough to be able cast without a wand if the caster has the skill and talent to manage their magic so.
in this case, you're muse can definitely cast wandless magic, however, we will say that this should be kept within reason of your muse's background and age and how what they choose to do with that ability.
regarding your muse having an illegal job, this is something that may have to be run by the admod team to make sure that it's appropriate for the roleplay's guidelines!

what’s been the biggest challenge in your life and how did you deal with it?
this is a real, true story! i was doing a little catoptromancy in the morning with my makeup, and i saw that the muggle world would be entering an absolutely awful time soon. but! i’d been planning on attending a muggle university at that point! i know this doesn’t sound like a huge challenge, but it’s really hard to figure out which visions are my futures, and which ones are a general future i can avoid, y’know? anyway, i made the total right call of convincing my parents to help me take a gap year—or two—to avoid that fallout, listening to a couple other whispers along the way. so i managed to dodge a crappy outcome and i ended up in hwando after travelling around, which is a pretty nice end to the end of the world vision that started this whole panic, i think!
if your muse had to live as an animal for a whole day, what would it be and why?
an alligator! those big guys have some powerful teeth, and i gotta rep my hometown’s sexy, awful creatures. plus, it just looks like a lot of fun to be one of ‘em. no one would ever get in your way, and if they do... chomp chomp!

we just wanted to make a quick announcement to say that after some discussion, we have decided to change the roleplay’s weekly acceptance system and will now be running on a ROLLING ACCEPTANCES system.
this means that we will review any applications we receive as our time seem fits! with our applications being questionnaires, this allows us to get through the review process much easier as well.
although this does not affect any of our current active members, this is a major change with adjustments that we wanted to highlight. this specifically regards what activity will look like during your first week for any newcomers and anyone curious in joining, or once second muses are allowed if this becomes something of interest for our current members (along with sufficient activity).
the system allows some more leeway for those joining, depending on when you join and when you post your intro (before or after activity check occurs).

hello there! we do have a mwf tag, which i will happily link here. i think a lot of those fcs still apply, but, just in case you are looking for some fresh ideas, i will add a few more! i know these fcs are in the tag, but the admods would be excited to see kim yerim (yeri), lee sungkyung, seo kangjoon, any exo member, and astro’s cha eunwoo and moon bin (give us billlie’s moon sua as well for some sibling love)! i know some members have also requested some loona and seventeen members, so i’ll suggest jeon heejin, lee chan (dino), park chaewon (gowon), jung jinsoul, and boo seungkwan! some of our members have also suggested tbz members, so i’ll say that i’d personally love to see kim younghoon and kim sunwoo! although, any unclaimed faces from any of these groups would be a lovely addition to our roleplay.
for older fcs (25+), kim ahyoung (yura), bae suzy, kim woobin, choi woosik, im nayeon, ok taecyeon, and oh sehun would be lovely to see!
hey there! i believe we have a few asks pertaining to this matter, so i’ll go ahead and link them here (one, two). this response gets kind of lengthy, so i do apologize for that! i’m sure if mod sapphire or admin emerald have anything to add, it will be listed below. and if any of our current members have any ideas as well, we would love to hear it in the replies!
as for a more updated answer for this, i think we would love to see some muses who are considered ‘lawful good’. we definitely want to see more muses who fill up the occupations in the general city (older muses who may fill up some organization spots, alumni of the institute that still live around the island, etc). i’d love to see a group of muses who went to the institute, but since then their friend group has split apart for some reason. it’d be interesting to have a ‘where are they now?’ type of plot amongst these muses (i.e. reply 1997, our beloved summer type plots)! i know a lot of people may be discouraged to join as older muses, as most of the current muses are students in the institute, so i think these kinds of muses may help bridge the gap between the general city and the institute.
although we have an institute, a common idea that our admod team has been discussing are muses who aren’t a student despite being around the traditional age for students. i believe the general idea for the institute is that it would educate students on more advanced (but general) knowledge on magic that is the international standard; hence, we would love to see muses who stray away from such standards. an example that we would love to see of this is a muse who studies korean shamanism or comes from a lineage of korean shamans. we don’t want to limit this muse to just one ethnicity though! any muse with knowledge of magic coming from their own cultural background would be just as interesting! i also know there are families within the harry potter universe who use their magic as a source of entertainment for the public that also are not traditionally taught such practices. these muses would also be interesting to see at hwando as well!
lastly, i would love to see some connections form with some of our current members (with their permission of course). if any current members have some wanted connections that they would like to fill up, we strongly encourage you to fill out our wanted connections form asap! we would love to see some siblings or relatives around the island.
hello anon! i can’t give you a numerical answer for this, as i don’t want to label any muns or muses without their consent; however, i think it’s safe to say that we have a handful of lgbtq+ muses and are always open to more! our admod team strives to make hwando a safe space for both muns and muses alike, thus, we are strongly against any discrimination based on gender, sexuality, race, etc. i hope this helps!

no worries! we love to see our members suggest muse ideas or faceclaims they’d love to see at hwando. if you are looking for any faceclaim ideas for a potential muse, these three would make great additions to our roleplay. i personally am a huge fan of jeon heejin myself, but we would love to see reserves for any of these three lovely ladies!
