i mean, we could all pull a greta thunberg if we’re feeling extra funky and just sail everywhere as a mode of transport. i’ve watched too many movies where that ends in disaster though. not even moana could survive the waves without the help of dwayne ‘the rock’ johnson. i feel like as long as you have your trunk full with rainbow cookies, and doritos — a road trip can’t really go wrong. even an interstate killer could be bought with a walmart pack of twenty-four, i’m convinced. no problem, make it an ice bath and your muscles live stress free for a week. not even pranking you.

that honestly might be the move going forward, but on second thought, i don’t really wanna capsize or starve to death somewhere in the ocean. rainbow cookies and doritos actually sounds like the perfect combination of snacks. and i haven’t taken a proper road trip in forever, so one might be in order soon. an ice bath? really? i’ve never tried it, and it sounds kinda terrifying, but i might give it a shot.

I can’t say I have had one recently, but I did a little while ago after flying back from the US. The flight was fine, but when my sister picked me up, her car broke down and Little Miss Exhausted here was in tears. All because I was tired. And I had a show that evening. I have no idea how I managed it but I did. And I slept well that night.

oh my god, that sounds like the absolute worst. i’d definitely cry, too, that’s super scary and frustrating. you’re a rockstar for going and doing the show anyway.

More than I’d like to actually admit. Whether it’s forgetting things at the hotel or my apartment before a flight or event and we have to go all the way back, to spilling coffee all over a very expensive outfit which makes me die a little bit inside to a million other things that could possibly go wrong – the list of things feels almost endless. I just kind of sit and revaluate my life a little or just get a ton of junk food and go to town even though I’ll hate myself for it in the gym the next day.

really, i’m just glad i’m not the only one. i know people forget shit all the time, but for some reason it felt especially stupid when i did it, ya know? oof, and i’ve done the spilling coffee everywhere thing, too — not just on myself, either, but all over someone else too. i definitely did a lot of reevaluating my life when i was stuck at the airport, and junk food is next on the agenda.

Carbs are fair game on a very, very, bad day. Especially if it’s pasta, I can’t seem to get away from pasta. Like, not to get into a whole rant about it but, y’know how people pinch their index and thumb together and that gap is meant to be one serving? It never looks enough! I follow that theory and then I end up doubling it because my gut tells me to. Anyways, it’s like my body has some magnetic attraction to spaghetti. Oh gosh, well – what kind of movies do you like? ‘Cause there’re lots of classics, West Side Story is one of my personal favorites, Wizard of Oz as well.

pasta is objectively the best kind of carbs, if you ask me. i’ve never once in my life made the correct amount of pasta, it’s either just a little bit or way too much, but that’s cool because i just save it for later. but you’re right, the recommended serving is literally never enough. i like all kinds of movies, honestly! i haven’t seen west side story in forever, so i’m gonna have to put it on my watchlist, thank you.

oh no…. don’t tell me that all this happened to you. what you deserve right now is a long bath, warm watter, all the bath bombs and maybe some wine so i can live through you and all that. seriously though, i hope everything wrapped up okay in the end. honestly, all i do i actually facetime my cat and probably lay on my bed while staring at the ceiling afterwards just to top it all off. i know, i’m probably the worst person you’ve could’ve asked this advice from, but here i go, giving it anyway.

oh, it definitely happened to me, but it is what it is. and a warm bath was absolutely the first thing on my list once i got to where i was going, wine was number two. and honestly, everything turned out fine. it was really stressful while it was happening, but i’m safe and sound and got to meet up with my friend successfully, so it’s all good. you facetime your cat? i love that, i don’t have one but i’m gonna facetime some of my friend’s pets now. and you’re not the worst person for advice! this was really nice and helpful of you, thank you. i’m laura, by the way.

There actually have been days in my life where it felt like the longest day or days of my life and it mostly stems from when I’m at my lowest, but I have had those days in my life that feel like the longest day or days of my life. I am so sorry that your day felt like the longest day of your life and I hope you don’t have a repeat of that in the future! Um, what I do to unwind after a long day? Spend time with my wife and kids, doing family activities, but if you want a different answer, I would spend time with my friends and do whatever with ‘em.

i think we definitely all have days like that, but what matters is just being able to find a way through them and move forward. so i had a really bad day yesterday, but that doesn’t mean today has to be bad, and it’s actually going much better. as for unwinding, that’s very nice. i do love spending time with my family, and now i’m spending time with a friend so it was all worth it.

A great big bubble bath and a cup of tea! Honestly, it sounds so cliche but it’s the absolute best for relaxing and letting go of the day. At least it is for me, I think everyone is different. What other things have you tried so far? And please tell me you finally reached your destination after that horrendously long flight saga?

this is honestly the best fix for any terrible day. that plus a movie is definitely on my agenda. so far, it’s just been wine, which has been helping tremendously, as did changing out of the clothes i was stuck in all day. and yes, i’m safe and sound in new york, thank you.

i would suggest just avoiding planes at all costs but it’s probably super counterintuitive to your day going any quicker. and road trips definitely just escalate the dead leg — worst idea i ever had was boycotting a flight from LA to Vegas. nearly broke down in death valley, and driving on the other side of the road for two days was a whole trip. accidents were only just slimly avoided. think you’re well-deserving of a buble bath if you ask me. get the bubbles out, light a couple of candles, switch on the michael buble christmas album & you’ll be instantly relaxed. or like, alternatively, go on a run. endorphins are a drug.

i would love to avoid planes altogether, i honestly hate airports at this point. but it’s part of the job, and all my friends and family live scattered around the world, so i feel like planes will always be a part of my life. road trips can be fun, but all the variables have to be right — the right people with you, right snacks, right music, all of that. and it can’t be too long or it all goes to hell, it’s very complicated. oh my god, that sounds terrible. a bubble bath is definitely on my agenda, thanks for the suggestion.

Damn, talk about bad luck. I’ve been stuck at the airport once or twice, but never too long. Would you recommend the airport though? Like on a scale of one to ten – how would you rate the wonderful services they provide when you’ve got nowhere else to go? Those are the important questions. After a long day, I like to lay down on my couch, drink a beer and listen to some good music. Nothing more relaxing. 

i always have the worst luck traveling, it’s a curse, but it’s usually not that bad. as far as airports go, i was flying out of a big one so there was definitely a lot to do. i think i ate roughly three different meals just because i kept getting bored and having nothing else to do, and then i just wandered around and looked at stuff for a while. overall, not the worst experience i’ve had in an airport, so like a 6/10. this is a good suggestions, but i’m subbing out beer for wine.

Oh dear. That sounds like the most horrible day. Sounds like you spent a big chunk of your day in an airport and that’s just not a fun time for anyone. Were you heading home? That kinda just makes it all even worse considering you probably just wanted to get back to your place to rest and all. I generally go in the route of tea. A warm chamomile tea is always a great way to go whenever you’re feeling stressed and need to just take a breather. A bath as well. Then get yourself into your most cozy pajamas and into bed and watch your favorite movie or TV show or whatever you like. You definitely deserve a night to just hang out and do nothing. 

it really, really was, but i got through it, so i figure it’s all good now. and i wasn’t heading home, i was heading out to see my friend, so it was even more stressful to be delayed with someone waiting on me. this is honestly the best advice, because tea usually makes everything better. one of my favorite things in the world is having sleepytime tea at bedtime to wind down. and speaking of watching something, i’ve been meaning to rewatch lady bird for a hot minute now, so i think that’ll be my relaxation choice.

That sounds very specific and very awful so I’m inclined to believe that’s how your day went which, for lack of a better term, sucks. Usually I do three things. One, I order Postmates and get way too much food – junk food, unhealthy food, cheesy stringy food. Then, I usually have a shower and groom for a good hour or two, and I mean like beard oil, light shave, a facial mask, that sorta deal. Sounds tiring from a distance but post-groom, I feel like a million bucks. Lastly I sink into my couch, and just binge Netflix, usually something akin to a musical because I’m a walking stereotype – and just stay there for hours.

very specific, very awful, and very much something that i went through. and it definitely, definitely sucked, but at least it’s all over now. food was the number one thing on my list as soon as i was to my destination, and i probably ate more carbs than i should physically be able to handle. as for grooming, i did do a nice face mask, and that plus some wine was enough to help me unwind. this is shameful, but i don’t even remember the last time i watched a musical. recommend me one?

god, that literally sounds so stressful. everything about travelling is stressful, but honestly nothing makes me feel better after flying than a hydrating skincare routine and a bottle of wine, but with cartoons or like reality television or something you know? nothing to force your brain to think for the next couple hours until you pass out. and if you can’t sleep after the flight, just laying down in bed and staring at the ceiling with a bottle of wine and a red bull on standby. 

i’m a nervous person and i freak out a lot, but that’s some of the most stressed i’ve ever been. i was so caught up in my huge failure, i didn’t even think about my skincare routine, you’re a livesaver. on my way to do a korean mask right now and replenish myself. as for the wine, i’m down, but i think i’ll pass on the red bull. still though, i appreciate the suggestions.
