Hydrogen Gaming is a group of friends and indie developers. This blog is a showcase of our efforts as aspiring developers, putting our failures as well as our successes on display for the world to see. We also love the independent game development scene and enjoy getting the word out about lesser-known titles through reviews, previews, and impressions written by yours truly.

The Lunar Pack is currently available as a "pay-what-you-want" bundle at Indievania for a minimum of $1. It contains the excellent Exploration Platformer "Lunnye Devitsy" and the thrilling "Wake" as well as their soundtracks. Read on for more information and impressions on the games contained within.

Lunnye Devitsy (pictured above) has a lot in common with the wonderful Knytt Stories- it features simple platforming, powerups that improve your ability to explore, and a beautiful art style. The appeal in these "exploration platformers" is not acquiring a high score or defeating hordes of foes, but rather enjoying the experience of simply exploring.The visually distinct areas, large number of things to find, and the laid-back atmosphere make the game an absolute joy to play. 

Wake (pictured above) is what the devs call an "escapevania"- filled with upgrades and tight platforming, the goal of the game is to escape a sinking ship which is rapidly filling with water. While the player must avoid fire and other dangerous obstacles, they must also avoid drowning in the ever-rising water. What impresses me most about this game is just how tense things get. It is, in many ways, the exact opposite of Lunnye Devitsy. Whereas the former is laid-back and has a very stress-free take on platforming, Wake constantly pushes the player forward and forces them to think quickly. It's an absolute blast and the inclusion of multiple difficulties and a "high score" system ensure lots of replayability.

A new face for Hydrogen Gaming!

Hello, all! I'm very excited to say that Hydrogen Gaming is getting a full reboot- in the last month we've decided to focus all of our efforts on developing several titles that we're very excited about. We'll be recording our efforts here so that hopefully other aspiring indie devs will be able to learn from our mistakes (there will be plenty!) as well as our successes. 

We'll still be doing impressions, previews, and reviews- however, we're going to be focusing on lesser known titles that may not receive much coverage otherwise.
