A wonderful ask pookie!! Super into this vibe and I know u love it. There’s Bill tension but you kissy Jerry. This is so long I’m sorry
The west was never a good place to be around noon. When the vultures start to circle and you can almost hear the sun buzzing around you, that’s when you go inside. You never wanna end up in the heat. The heat makes people crazy.
You were never one for socializing, not good for your image. But the air was dry and you knew you needed to get in the shade. That’s how you ended up at this place, a small town with bars on every storefront and wood nailed to every window. The place smelled of smoke and blood, but it would work fine for a quick stop.
Spotting a dusty stall you walked your horse over to it and tied her up next to some water. There was a rustling in the dead brush that you pretended not to notice, but you made sure to stick around a minute to get a sense of the area.
You were outside a bar, small and lit only by the streams of sunlight that made its way through the cracks in the exterior. The place had an aura of danger that seemed to kill off any chance of patronage. It didn’t bother you, you were surrounded by death anyhow.
When you stepped on the wood planks of the interior, all sounds of nature ceased. You pulled your hat down and took off your coat, moving to take a seat at the bar.
The bar dog was a handsome man with long blonde hair, probably in his thirties, probably worth about ten thousand for his head.
You told him to get you a whiskey on ice. He complied with a smile, turning around to make your drink.
You try to lean over and see what the dog’s up to, no need to go over to the mixing station for a simple drink like that. You couldn’t catch anything and your attention was snapped away at the sound of the bell signaling someone’s entrance.
A man no taller than you stepped in calmly. He clearly knew the place as he took his coat and hat off and loudly stomped his boots on the carpet.
“Jerry dog! How’s the heat treating you?” The man said, plopping himself on the stool next to you.
“Fine sir, just fine.” He replied, placing your drink in front of him.
“Uh, ‘scuse me sir, that would be mine.”
The stranger turned to you, his brunette hair obscuring his eyes as they locked onto you.
“Well I’ll be,” he said, turning to you, “I’m terribly sorry sir, here’s your drink. And make it another Jer dog, to show my condolences.”
The blonde said nothing, simply turning back to the bar and making you another drink, still obscured.
The air felt thick. Something was off.
The bar was never a good place to be around noon, ‘specially not around two strangers who knew each other.
You examined your drink nonchalantly, trying not to draw attention. The glass was fogged with condensation, but you noticed something strange.
Another drink was set in front of you, the ice clinking against the cold glass. The ice sank quickly.
“Well now,” the strange man began again, turning fully to you and allowing you to see his light brown eyes glinting with specks of gold and bloodlust, “Not thirsty?”
“Well, ya know what they say. You can lead a horse to water, can’t make ‘im drink.” He said with a cackle that dried the air around him.
“I think I should be goin’. Nice meetin’ you gentlemen.” You said with a stark expression, slapping down a dollar and grabbing your coat on your way out.
Finally out of the bar, you felt yourself breathe again. The sun was lower now, it was time to go. You walked around the corner to go retrieve your ride, only to find the stall door open and the inside barren.
Almost instantly your heart sunk to your knees and you began to sweat, cold and painfully uncomfortable against the afternoon heat.
“Missin’ somethin’?” A familiar voice called from behind.
You whipped around to see that same strange man at the front of the stalls, a large grin on his face.
“The hell’d you do you son of a bitch. You tell me where my horse is and you tell me now.” You said, unbuttoning the leather strap of your holster.
“Calm yerself there, sir. Your girl is just fine back at my camp. But before ya get ‘er back, I have a few questions.”
“Well we can’t talk very well here, now can we?” He asked, moving over to his own horse in a manner much too calm for the situation. “So yer gonna come with me an’ we’re gonna have ourselves a nice lil’ conversation.”
You looked around. No way to escape without shooting him, and you could tell this guy had connections. It was too risky here. You’d have to go.
You put your hands in the air and walked towards the man, careful to keep your eyes on his weapon. He got onto his horse and motioned for you to join him. After awkwardly squeezing yourself behind him, he pulled on the reigns and you two began the trip to wherever he decided to take you.
Hours passed, the sun had long since set when you finally arrived at the camp. Unpleasant wasn’t enough to describe the place, it was downright sinister. Not in appearance, in fact it looked quite homely. But it reeked of death and seemed to crawl with lost souls of those damned to an early grave.
You had put together who this guy was, or at least what he was. Some sort of thief who drugged people and stole their horses to resell for dirty cash. He was also trigger happy, obvious from the ten or so squirrels he shot on the way here. Not even picking them up, just leaving them to die.
You both walked into his tent, suddenly tense at the thought of being this close to him.
“So, what do you want?” You finally spoke, “I want my horse back.”
“Slow down now, like I said you’ll get your horse real soon. But first I’m gonna introduce myself. My name is Bill, but you’ll do fine to call me sir.”
“My, what an attitude. Anyways, I run a little business in that there town you was in. I’m sure you’ve figured it out by now, you seem like a smart boy. Well, I’ve been lookin’ to…expand my practices and you’re just the man I need. I know what you do, and I know you’re pretty dang good at it, too. Not to mention your look is, admirable. I really could use someone like you on my te-”
Bill was cut off by the force of your body tackling him to the ground. The two of you struggled but eventually you were able to pin him down, your knees on his thighs and your hand keeping his arms still.
You grabbed a knife from your pocket and pressed it to his neck, hard enough for him to feel it but not enough to break the skin yet.
He continued to struggle as you tied his arms and legs with a nearby tablecloth. You pressed the knife deeper and Bill stilled himself against the blade. He looked like he was going to explode.
You were about to continue when suddenly the blonde from the bar came in. It took only a second before he turned and began to sprint out of the tent.
You quickly ran out after him and were able to grab him pretty fast, only about fourty feet from the tent.
You hooked your arm around his chest and put your blade to his neck just like you had Bill’s. You could probably get something outta him if his boss was that powerful.
“Give me one good reason I shouldn’t cut you and yer boss up like little pigs.”
“Please sir, I just work for him! I didn’t mean nothin’ bad, honest! I’ll get you your horse back!”
You could feel the blondes heartbeat against the knifes edge, your face pushed into his soft hair.
“Quit yer squirmin’ or you’ll cut yourself. ‘S not at fun if it ain’t me doin it.” You said pulling him in tighter.
“You seem like a good listener, yeah? You go in there ‘n knock that boss of yer’s out, maybe I won’t cut yer scalp off and sell it to a hairdresser, huh?”
The bar dog shook at your words, but began nodding his head nonetheless. You took him over to the tent and watched as he went inside, waiting until you heard the satisfying smashing of a glass vase.
When he came back out you grabbed his neck and pulled him in by his waist, making sure he felt the edge of your pistol in his hip.
“Now that’s a good dog. I’d give you a reward, but I’m already doin enough by letting your lil’ heart keep on beatin’. Ain’t I generous?”
“Yes sir, you are. Please don’t kill me.” The man said through wheezes, gingerly trying to grab at his throat.
“That’s right. ‘N I’m so generous, I’m gonna make you a deal. You close yer eyes ‘n keep quiet for a bit, I’ll let you go scott free. Sound good?”
“Yes sir.” Jerry said, shutting his watery eyes and inhaling deeply as you loosened your grip on his throat.
You grabbed the back of his head and forced his lips to join yours, looping a finger through a loop in his pants to keep him in place. You could practically feel the heat radiating off of his face as he kissed you, feverishly trying to keep your pace.
You continued until your breath ran short, pulling back to see his lips reddened and puffy, tears rolling down his slender face.
The blonde mumbled something into your shoulder as he began to cry, holding dearly onto you in a gesture far too intimate for the position he was in.
You weren’t one for softness, but you threatened to kill the guy. You felt a strange obligation to help.
Stroking his back tentatively in a half-attempt to calm him, you quietly asked what was wrong.
“Bill’s gonna kill me when he wakes up. Oh god, I’m gonna die! He’s gonna kill me! Oh god!”
He was inconsolable, and without thinking you blurted something out.
“I-Well, I said you can come with me. That lil boy ain’t gonna do nothin’ to me. Sure as hell ain’t gonna hurt ya if I’m around.”
The blonde man paused, hiccuping lightly in shock before rushing over to your horse to untie it, waving you over to him.
“Quickly, I wanna get as far away as we can before he stirs.”
You nodded and helped him onto the horse with you, pulling the reigns and moving out into the night, the camp disappearing into the distance.
