⁺ 𓈒 ꒰ ✿ ꒱ [ 9.43am ] — gn!reader + idol!choi yeonjun. fluff. 657 words. content warnings include mentions of bodies of water (ocean) and eating.
summers with yeonjun were always so sweet.
the july skies were blazing hot, the sun blaring out mid-afternoon. it was nearing the end of the season, yet the breeze remained the same as it was in the early days of april.
summers with yeonjun were always so perfect.
summers with him were almost close to a dream, you thought, as you listened to the sound of one ocean wave crashing against the shore after another and yeonjun’s soft breathing against your skin. you almost fell asleep if it hadn’t been for the sudden feeling of your boyfriend sitting up so he could get a piece of fruit from your picnic basket.
being able to run away, even for just a moment, from the busyness of the city and the hectic schedules you’ve both had to deal with for a couple of years now... it was all worth it. you were cryptic about him agreeing to go on the trip at first— knowing yeonjun, he hated being away from work, even if he deserved to take a break. your boyfriend was, as much as you hated to admit it, a workaholic and a perfectionist to a fault, and sometimes it took everything in you not to drag him away just so he could finally rest for once.
your cold fingertips slowly made its way to graze over yeonjun’s naked back, droplets from the ocean still running down his skin even minutes after his second swim of the day. his hair was damp as his plush lips wrap themselves around the fresh strawberry in his grasp. a small smile graces his lips when he turns his head to look at you, and you slowly feel yourself reciprocate the smile after a little while.
god, he looked like an angel like this.
he thought it was worth it. yeonjun might hate being away from work and getting some well-deserved rest, but he hated being so far away from you even more. he thought it was worth it— running away from the incessant phone calls, the sudden practices, the flashing of camera lights left and right.
he loved his job, don’t get him wrong. becoming an idol had always been his dream, but damn was it exhausting. his entire life, yeonjun had always hated the idea of new things, frightened of the change that came along with it— and the idol life was exactly just that. the constant change of routines, seeing new faces, learning new languages. how fast everything comes and how fast everything leaves. having to adjust and adapt and adjust and adapt and adjust and adapt. having to run away from places that he’d already grown so accustomed to. yeonjun was constantly changing, adjusting and adapting, growing used to the new faces, the routines, the languages, the running— after all, it was his job.
it was a nice breath of fresh air, being able to run away from that— all of those stressful things that yeonjun strangely clung onto so much. it felt worth it, to finally press pause and embrace the one thing he had never once resented— you.
it was worth it all, just so he could feel the slight stickiness of the lipgloss you wore against his cheek when you pressed a chaste kiss on it, just so he could taste the saccharine tinge of the orange you were eating earlier, just so he could hear the breathless giggles that would leave your lips when he’d press so many kisses against your skin that it began to tickle. it was worth it all, seeing just how utterly in love you looked when you gazed into his eyes and feeling the same love bloom in his chest when you pulled him closer to you.
summers with you were always so sweet, and as he whispered a quiet “i love you” against your lips and heard you say it back, yeonjun knew he could never get enough.
