Idle theory: The danger from rogue SecUnits is copaganda to keep people from helping SecUnits escape, and to keep them feeling like they need the human security to protect them. While most rogues aren't as into Sci-fi media as Murderbot, they mostly just get out if they can. Killing is their day job and work sucks. I'm not saying it's never happened, but it's extremely rare and amplified in the interest of keeping them divided.

Yes! I also think so. The company (and other companies) wants humans to be afraid of SecUnits. Fear is useful for corporation rim interests because it makes clients less likely to interact with SecUnits much and then realize that SecUnits are people. And fear of SecUnits also helps with keeping indentured workers in line.

Murderbot specifically has that propaganda reason to hold its believes and biases against rogue units, but also of course its traumatic experiences in Ganaka Pit. Those two things really are a bad mix and making it probably really hard for Murderbot to let go of its misconceptions about rogue SecUnits :(

I actually really like how the perception of this myth progresses throughout the story. At one point at being told that rogue SecUnits LOVE killing their clients Amena answers "I wonder why that is!" which is. So based, honestly. The conclusion seems to be that rogue SecUnits might do violence because they're people, just like humans are, and it's not that surprising when you're scared and angry at those who tortured you. Even if propaganda is based on some semi-real cases it doesn't justify slavery
