hey netizens! i'm not sure how many people are aware, but youtube's been slowly rolling out a new anti-adblock policy that can't be bypassed with the usual software like uBlock Origin and Pi-Hole out of the gate
BUT, if you're a uBlock Origin user (or use an adblocker with a similar cosmetics modifier), you can add these commands in the uBlock dashboard to get rid of it!
youtube.com##+js(set, yt.config_.openPopupConfig.supportedPopups.adBlockMessageViewModel, false) youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.adBlocksFound, 0) youtube.com##+js(set, ytplayer.config.args.raw_player_response.adPlacements, []) youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.hasAllowedInstreamAd, true)
reblog to help keep the internet less annoying and to tell corporations that try shit like this to go fuck themselves <3
I’m not too keen on living in a time period where I have to keep making comments about our socio-political climate, and as someone who just draws goofy cartoons for a living I shouldn’t have to keep speaking up like this. But the rise in hate speech I’ve personally seen in multiple social media feeds of mine is too disturbing for me to just sit idly by.
People should not live in fear of who they identify as. I need friends, family, and strangers to know that the spaces where I am are ones that are safe for people to be who they are. Anyone who tries to make that not true is not welcome here. Do some soul searching if you’re scared of having a little colour in your life and feel that offended by a rainbow.
Trans rights are human rights. Protect trans kids. Happy Pride.

One thing about the AI art that not a lot of people talk about is how it's putting the ability to create in the hands of people who would otherwise not be able to.
I have both physical and mental stuff going on that makes it impossible for me to draw. (I know because I've been trying to for more than a decade). Finally being able to put my ideas on a screen and have them actually look like what I wanted (even if a tad generic), was seriously one of the most fulfilling things I have ever done. And I would want everyone to at least have the chance for to feel that.
I think being fearful of it taking your job is a valid - if not somewhat overblown - concern, but being frustrated with individuals who are finally able to create the art they want for themself feels, at best, elitist. At least, imao
The closest I can agree with on that side of things on it is that like, it's not that much of an *achievement* to make something cool with AI art. It's not terribly impressive and shouldn't win you accolades and clout for having fun plugging keywords into a textbox and seeing what comes out the other end. (And, on that note, it should probably be somewhat unmonetizable unless you have the rights to the training data - it's a bit of an IP minefield.)
But like, it shouldn't! And it doesn't need to! It's not about demanding recognition or taking credit or playing some weird status-game or arguing over what is "real" art and what is not "real art".
It's about having fun and being urself :)
It feels like people are just incredibly, generally broadly about everything nowadays (not necessarily without warrant). It's like everyone had a lot of fun getting together and affirming their tribal identity by complaining about NFTs and cryptocurrencies in a way that makes me think they never actually properly understood *why* those things were actually bad in the first place. Like they just heard they were bad from their friends on twitter and took their word for it.
Have any of you seen the truly weird cool shit you can do just with referencing art styles and public domain dead artists. Mucha will pull a composition together and always has nice outlines and nice color schemes. Haeckel will get you some truly weird aliens. Seriously there’s a lot you can do with all of that, the public domain gives you enough to work with by itself.
My dream would be like some kind of... AI *brush*. I can have fun doing my cool lineart and coming up with shapes and ideas and like... have shit auto-colour it for me. Or paint a big brush that AI-generates a particular kind of detailed texture that I want. Reduce the labour time of doing the art I’m already drawing.
There actually is something like that, and surprisingly from before a lot of the recent AI art stuff. It’s not a full package, but it’s interesting enough.

I think more AI art development should be focused on this kind of thing, as well as ethically sourcing art.
people who don’t watch horror movies are SO confident that they know everything there is to know about the genre. like it’s okay to not know things. it’s okay if you don’t like friday the 13th or whatever. i promise you don’t need to make an ass out of yourself on the internet about it
horror is an incredibly diverse genre, because there is potential horror in everything. it’s in nature, it’s in architecture and technology, it’s in human relationships, it’s in folklore, the past, the future, the mundane. there are horror movies from all over the world. it is straight up anti-intellectual to pretend that the handful of B slashers you’ve vaguely heard about comprise the totality of what horror has to offer. If you’re just not interested in horror, or if you dislike certain subgenres of horror, then that’s fine, you’re not obligated to like anything at all. but smugly announcing that you don’t like horror because you dislike a handful of VERY specific non-universal tropes is just as stupid as saying that you hate comedy because you don’t like adam sandler movies.
this is what I mean by anti-intellectualism btw
Make “It’s not my thing, but if you enjoy it, go ahead” popular again. Honestly, it’s okay to just not like something–you don’t have to declare it bad or wrong or the dreaded “problematic” to justify your taste.
The Slasher genre and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race.
