small dog lays flat on the floor  and sighs and whines  while it waits for you to come back from wherever you go  all day small dog doesn’t know if you’re coming home small dog hides under the bed to puke does it quiet eats its shame before you ever smell it  small dog’s bark is worse than its bite  small dog you are so funny when you bite  small dog it’s so funny when you’re mad  so by all means pick it up throw it around  lock it in a cage while you laugh small dog you are so funny when you cry

small dog can’t remember being a wolf  can’t remember being big  howling in harpstring harmony  like a plucked and quivering note in a catacomb  sleeping in a warm pile of bodies in a dry place that smells like family  the taste of fresh hot blood and wet bone iron fire honey salt 

small dog run free beneath the moon in your dreams

I’m confident that the absolute dregs of possibility for this society, the sugary coffee mound at the bottom of this cup, our last best hope that when our little bit of assigned plasma implodes  it won’t go down as a green mark in the cosmic ledger, lies in the moment when you say hello to a bus driver  and they say it back—

when someone holds the door open for you  and you do a little jog to meet them where they are—

walking my dog, i used to see this older man  and whenever I said good morning,  he replied ‘GREAT morning’—

in fact, all the creative ways our people greet each other may be the icing on this flaming trash cake hurtling through the ether. 

when the clerk says how are you  and i say ‘I’m blessed and highly favored’ 

i mean my toes have met sand, and wiggled in it, a lot.  i mean i have laughed until i choked and a friend slapped my back. i mean my niece wrote me a note: ‘you are so smart + intellajet’

i mean when we do go careening into the sun, 

i’ll miss crossing guards ushering the grown folks too, like ducklings  and the lifeguards at the community pool and men who yelled out the window that they’d fix the dent in my car,  right now! it’d just take a second—

and actually everyone who tried to keep me alive, keep me afloat,  and if not unblemished, suitably repaired.

but I won’t feel too sad about it, becoming a star

Since I'm reading many people disheartened at the lack of ordering a ceasefire by the ICJ, here's some info:

The ruling was BIG and far more than many expected. I, for one, certainly did not expect that the German judge ruled in favor of all of the provisional measures, nor that the Israeli judge would rule in favor of some of them. That is absolutely ground-breaking.

This ruling, whilst not final, will change the course of how the international community is going to act towards Israel, because now they are all going to be very careful not to be complicit in what potentially might be ruled as an actual genocide in the merits case (which will likely take years, but that's how it goes).

Governments and individuals have a face to lose, and the ICJ ruling is one more nail in the coffin of their complicity.
